G3 Restoring scents on G3 ponies?

I made a post on the MLP Arena like 2 years ago with this same question but I never really got a clear answer.

I have pretty much all of the scented G3s now (except Bay Breeze… ha…) but all of them except for like 2 no longer have their scents on their cutie marks.

My grand plan is to find the right kind of oils to buy and reapply to their cutie marks and restore their scents.

I found some scented oils that match their themes or are close enough to their original scents, but I haven’t bought any because I’m worried about the chemicals in the oils clashing with the oils in the ponies’ plastic/paint and cause stains.

And I kinda want the scents to linger and not last for half a day or whatever.

Does anyone know what kind of scented oils/chemicals Hasbro used or might have used to give the scented ponies their fragrances? Or a good alternative oil type?

I’ve tried researching it on my own but I haven’t had much luck.

i would as well! were only the cutie marks scented? i dont have any of those ponies, but maybe they scented the plastic itself? my g1 strawberry surprise is still scented even after washing and stuff, so i would guess thats how they did it. if it is in the plastic though, i dont think theres any way to scent it again and have it stay, and i think most oils would probably stain or something :( i heard something on here about how the basic fun scented ponies kept in their box were yellowing/becoming discolored over time.

this is a really weird suggestion, but if their heads are removable, maybe you could place something with that scent inside of their bodies? it wouldn't be strong at all, but it might be noticeable? like through the hair plugs and tail? and maybe it wouldnt stain? uh idk lol;;; maybe not a great idea

you could try keeping the pony in a airtight ziplock bag/tupperware container for a while to see if the scent comes back, maybe?

I know with Strawberry Shortcake they bake the scent right into the plastic (or at least they did for the older ones) but I’ve never seen anything about how ponys are scented, sorry :sleepy:
Maybe you could try adding the scent to the hair? That way there’s no potential staining or odd reactions with the plastic, I’m not sure how long it would last though

Hmmm This is an interesting thought. So, obviously we have no idea how any of these things will react with the plastic. Take all this with a grain of salt and caution. Its an untested idea.
Have you ever seen those scent beads? The hard plastic beads that come in scent baggys you hang up? I wonder if you could put a pony in a box with those beads, not touching the pony, for a while and then later remove the pony and she be scented? Growing up family used to put pieces of cedar wood in our clothes drawers to make our clothes smell good. It always worked. I wouldnt put the pony directly into the beads but in a shoebox or something with the beads inside not touching could work! It would need to be redone every now and then tho.

Hey all! This is a fascinating discussion. I've played around with essential oils a little bit and don't know if this would work but what if you just applied it to the some of the hair? Maybe a tester on the tip of the tail hair of an experiment pony. If I were to attempt it I think I'd have the hair already washed and styled, have your scents (and carrier oils if need be) and maybe gently dab it onto parts of the hair that don't touch the pony itself? Watch for effects! This is HIGHLY theoretical and I'd recommend trying it on bait or tester pony's first. I've found some scents really take to certain things while others hardly hold, some need those carrier oils. I've never tried with ponies but in theory it could work. Takes some research and experimentation but maybe it could help you on your pony journey. Good luck with rescenting your lovelies!

I think one of the US hair suppliers used to do scent sprays, but I don't remember which one.
