EDIT: Finished! See the post

I have finally gotten around to starting the second HQG1C blank that I got for Christmas. I hadn’t had any ideas for a good while or motivation but here we are, I’m finally doing it.

One night a few months or so ago I tried gathering ideas for my next pony but I didn’t get very far but the name that came to me stuck - Wishaway! Also I have a few different purple shades of hair to use that I should really use. Using a base is from The Big Ol’ Custom Blank Base Collection by @Twinkle-eye I have a rough plan. This was in the event I can’t dye the pony (wasn’t sure on a base colour), I came up with this:
IMG_6926.png
The speckles are because this pony is not exactly a perfect blank base. She has so many black speckles, smudges and yellow stains over her. The speckles are ingrained in the plastic so it is a method to cover them up.
Not the best first photo of the whole body but the worst of it is on the face:

Whilst out shopping a while back after the design I came across some dye. I was standing for a long, long time at the dyes wondering if I should go with what I found. A couple of years ago I could have sworn Rit Dye was there but it wasn’t, instead this stuff is. I tried to do some searching on the spot to find if it works as well as Rit does on things like this but I couldn’t find a good answer. I had no idea at all if I would be back at this shop anytime soon or if this stuff would still be here so I went for it and got it. I just wanted to tint the body enough to hide the smears and hopefully speckles…

I followed instructions and it didn’t work, used the last of it also like Rit too but it still didn’t work. But hey, now we know Dylon does not work on ponies. For me, anyway.
But, all was not a waste of time. I saw some amazing colour patterns from the pigment and this reminded me of how I planned to cover the speckles!

I kept this tissue as a reference for when I finally do that pony and that time is now!

This is how this pony is looking currently.

The ears are done using the same smudging technique as when I did Tundra and also I’m smudging a bit of colour on the grey/black smears too so it is not a horrid smear. The dots are done using a pin and because of my poscas, they are very smooth!

I have also at the same time prepped my third and final Christmas HQG1C pony for a future custom. I have a slight idea for her… but this isn’t about her, this is about Wishaway.

Hopefully starting this thread at this point will help push me to finish Wishaway. Now I’ve finally started her and put paint to pony, I cannot stop now!

BONUS: Dark hippo pony emerges from dark waters…

Looking forward to seeing her done. That last photo made me snicker.

Yay! I always love seeing your progress posts on your customs. I can't wait to see the finished product!

When the pony was completely in the water, you could only see the sky above! It was so dark! It reminds me of a scene in a film, I just can’t quite place which one

Thank you both!

Already, here is an update. I was starting to get carried away with the dots and was also starting to use my tiniest brush with them too. I just don’t know when to stop and I didn’t want to make her unbearably messy and crowded. I also messed up on a blue hoof at on point mixing the yellow into the blue and made it green!
I also accidentally added more colourful smudges by mistake in places so I rolled with it. Then it seemed like I was accidentally referencing that amazing Jawbreaker Pony by @feelysonheelys but that wasn’t my intention. (Seriously, that’s such an incredible pony though. The texture is nailed.)

I don’t think I have quite achieved that pigment speckles I was aiming for but I do quite like the result. My pigment splatter pony! Kind of.

Tomorrow I shall work on the stars and change her eye colour. I managed to hide the black speckles which is what I wanted to do though:

Oh wow, looking absolutely stellar! I'm very happy to be an unconscious influence. Keeping an eye on this one.

OOH she's coming along gorgeously! I'm a sucker for the pink and blue hooves
Thanks! I didn’t intend to do the hooves colours again like I did on my last custom but when I did, I loved it as well. The pink and blue work so well

Thank you very much!

Small update today. I did the eyes and started on the stars. Eyes are always such a pain to do and I was doing these for such a long time. I’m still not totally happy with them but I thought I’d leave them for now before I try and neaten them up more. This is the best they’d get for now
IMG_7125.jpeg
And I began the stars! What started with a purple one became three. My colour choices were reflective of the “pigments” on her already. Now I write this I can’t remember what is what (purple to go with the pink, orange to go with the yellow and green to go with the blue?)… I need to neaten the edges. I find colour mixing tricky so when mixing my purple to become lighter, I kept coming up with different shades each time. I’ll get the hang of it though. I need to neaten up the edges and decide how to go out my next steps with them and if to replicate or do different stars on the NDS…
IMG_7124.jpeg
I’m not sure if I still want to go ahead with the faces on the stars or do something else yet…

And here she is currently:

Also, I added some more pink on the other side to even out the colour splats…

She's gonna be beautiful. She already is.

she's looking awesome! I love those hoofs!
Thank you both! The hooves are one of my favourite parts

I finished the body today. Decided to try to fix up the eyes again but this is the best I’m going to get them

I am my worst enemy when it comes to neatness because I notice tiny things on everything and I bother myself by it but I have to stop myself at some point from going too far. I know when time passes I’ll be used to all the little bits that may look weird to me right now whilst working.
I couldn’t decide if to continue on with going to put faces on the stars. I liked them blank but then I also quite liked them with faces on. So, I decided I’ll do the DS with faces and the NDS smaller and without faces

Tomorrow: the mane attraction!

Wow!! How gorgeous!! I love the patterns on her body. The colors are amazing. Your choice to use primary colors for her body and secondary colors for her symbol looks great and ensures the symbols don't 'blend in' with her body too much! It's really stellar!! The faces on the stars are so adorable. Adding faces to the DS and keeping the NDS different adds a lot of visual interest, plus you get the best of both worlds :redheart: Looking forward to seeing more updates!

Tomorrow: the mane attraction!
I am in love with those adorable stars!! I can't wait to see the colors of the mane!!

Thank you everyone :Flutter4:

Today I’ve made a start on the mane. I have some purple I haven’t even used yet so I decided to use that.

If you’re not aware or didn’t notice, or maybe you have noticed, the G5 ponies have more of a blend of colour in their manes and tails. I like this so I have decided I’ll do that with my purple. Here’s my little Sunny being an example along with the hair I’m using:
IMG_7377.jpegIMG_7378.jpeg
And so, here is what progress has been made today:
IMG_7379.jpegIMG_7380.jpegIMG_7381.jpeg
This will be both the full mane and tail. When it’s done, it’ll get trimmed and I’m going to try and curl it!
When I started I got to about four plugs in and realised I cut the pieces I’m using all too short and uneven so I had a to start all over.
Also, I added five plugs to the front

The purples are Purple Shimmer Kiwi Nylon (darker) and Destiny Nylon (lighter) both from The Doll Hair Emporium on Etsy

I was hoping you would use purple. I hadn't noticed that about G5! I haven't gotten into them much, but that is very interesting and I love how you did it. It's very beautiful!!

Thank you everyone! Yes, purple was indeed well and truly the only way to go. When I got the Destiny shade last year, I actually got it for a present project for my best friend but it turns out her character didn’t even have purple at all and I felt I had just wasted it… well not anymore!

I didn’t expect to finish putting her mane in today, my goal was to do half of what remains but the pace was picked up today and it seems that mixing colours can make it go that bit further.
She she is after being complete:
IMG_7493.jpegIMG_7494.jpeg
And here she is after a trim:
IMG_7495.jpegIMG_7496.jpeg
I usually keep the hair just a bit longer than it should be because I am not too great at trimming and I don’t want another Rusty Goldleaf incident where I made it too wobbly/short and feel the need to redo it again. Here she is with Princess Amber:
IMG_7497.jpeg
And how she is now:
IMG_7486.jpeg
She appears to have gotten a bit of water damage on her DS purple star but that shall be fixed just before I unwrap her.

Thank you all who have followed so far! The next update shall be the unwrapping (and star fixing)!:Flutter:

Edit: I forgot to mention, I tied her tail together with some white thread when putting it in and some of it has gotten stuck inside and sticks out the back. I need to find a way to remove that… I just keep finding bits when I get some out!
