i have a total of 3 winter pony singles (toboggan, sno-glo, and snow'el I) and they all seem to have this odd smell that i can only describe as stale cooking grease. i initially thought this was an isolated problem, since i hadn't encountered it before opening MIP toboggan and sno-glo a few weeks ago, but i acquired snow'el yesterday from a completely different place and she smelled exactly the same way. washing them didn't help.
has anyone else encountered this before? i tried looking around and i haven't seen anyone mention it.

Plastic picks up smells and absorbs them. Cooking grease is just as likely a scent to seep in as cigarette smoke, or mustiness, and is common. Perhaps you got your ponies from two households who enjoyed deep frying?

Plastic also can generate some strange smells because of the way it's breaking down. Usually what I smell from G1s is mildew, but I've detected a funk from a G3 or two that seems chemical. Hasbro used so many dyes and formulas for their rapidly-produced plastic toys, and they got packaged with different items that may also have put out a smell that seeped into the pony. There are so many variables.

Thete could be a lot of reasons. Is their hair greasy? Some g3 ponies ended up with excess oil in their hair from the factory, i wonder if it would age with a smell. Mine havent but you never know, too not sure. It could literally be a number of things  I would just give them a good wash and let them air out for a while. With time it'll probs fade.

Sometimes I wonder if being MIB or MOC is bad for ponies long term. Then again, I know I just want to open them lol!

maybe - although the scent on snow'el isn't as strong.

i'd say this is most likely the cause, since it's also the first thing i thought of. the only thing that makes me uncertain is that it's only affecting those three. i entertained the thought that it could be their clothes, but oddly, sno-glo's hat seems to be less smelly now and there isn't a trace of anything odd with penny candy (who came with a little fabric hat, that i don't have). there doesn't seem to be anything physically odd with them either, but there isn't always noticeable change until much later.
Is their hair greasy?
no, it's very soft and dry. as for airing them out, they're currently quarantined in an open area. i'll check on them every so often to see if anything improves.
