I have a bunch of sticky G3’s that I bought NIB. But because they were kept in the box for so long, they’re breaking down. I scrubbed 4 of them today with dawn dish soap, water, and a tooth brush. They’re still sticky but not as bad. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fully remove it? The plastic even smells different because it’s breaking down

From what I’ve read, I think you have to do it until you remove all the leaked plasticizer from the pony - lots of dawn dish soap and scrubbing.

That’s what I thought, thank you! After finishing with them yesterday I didn’t think just one time would do the trick. Does it completely go away if you do it enough times?

Unfortunately it can talk a while sometimes, I had a Lisa Frank dog who leaked for about 3 years >.< I’d wash her and scrub with a toothbrush every month or so until finally after years it stopped. But her bright yellow plastic got a bit darker for some reason, she’s more dandelion colored now.
Hopefully your ponys don’t take that long! If you can, I’d make sure the sticky ones aren’t touching each other so they don’t get damaged

So…..I just want to tell you, I don’t know what a Lisa Frank dog is - so, I googled it. I came across a video so cute it made hearts come out of me all over:

It’s a real dog.

My Hidden Treasure and Round 'n Round are also sticky, but it isn't because they how were kept. They are both my childhood toys and kept the same as other 20+ ponies. Temperature definitely play a part, but it seems that it mostly depend on what material they are made of. None of any pre 2005-2006 ever have this problem.

I too, have cleaned them several times already, right now I just keep them in a private cardboard box. I heard that the liquid plastic will finally leak all out, and they will become very hard (and may be a bit brittle), but the stickiness won't come out any more.
