Such Stubborn Glue!

So I’ve rehaired tons of ponies, but this Scooter Sprite is giving me such trouble that I’m here to complain about it a little haha.
I got her and she had cut hair on both her tail and mane (as well as tons of paint stains, most of which i was able to remove) so she’s due for a restoration!

I’ve removed all her hair. most of it came out fine but the very very end of her bangs had such stubborn glue, I had to use such force to get all the hair out and even then I couldn’t remove the glue from inside the head. I can’t really rehair her until i get that glue removed unless I wanna break my needle: the glue is too hard for the needle to penetrate through it
I tried boiling water and putting the head in to loosen the glue, didn’t help much. Google said vinegar might help soften glue, didn’t work either. Might try rubbing alcohol but I’m out right now.
You can even see the plastic is like. bent? dented? because there’s such a hard glob of glue inside

Sooo frustrating! :madpony:

An edit because I forgot: I should mention that my favorite tool for rehairing is forceps so Ive been trying to use those to pull the glue out, not that successful .

this is going to sound slightly strange, but you could try freezing it. i haven't tried it myself but i've read around on other hobby forums that freezing glue makes it brittle, and from there you might be able to break it up or better dissolve it with rubbing alcohol or another solvent (normally i would try acetone for glue, but that might run down over her eyes)

Oh, thanks for the suggestion!

I had this same thing with Misty Blue. There was this really thick glue all on her hair and for about a half-inch around her hair inside her head. I tried hot water, I tried acetone. I even tried poking from the outside thru the hair holes. I used small but long scissors to try and cut it away without marring her too much. After putting her in hot water again, I ended up using very long forceps to pull the glue away after I scraped it with one side of a pair of tweezers I had pulled apart.

Even then, while rehairing the little bit that was cut, there were chunks of hard glue coming out from her head still.

If you haven’t yet, have you tried using a q-tip with acetone/nail polish remover? That should help dissolve it! I’ve been using it to remove stubborn heads so I figure hair glue should be about the same. Just make sure to rinse the head out well!

Thank you guys, I will have to try those suggestions soon!
