G3 Tail Rust?

My friend who’s not in this group sent me this photo of a new pony she got, wondering if this is tail rust? I believe it is but we wanted to be sure. Thank you!

Definitely looks like rust, mold would be much darker imo. A good scrubbing and a washer replacement should take care of it :)
 
That’s definitely the shape of a washer right there. Size seems about right too. Looks more like a bruise. If it is rust it feels that looks like it stained. If it is rust also, that must have gone very deep into the plastic to show through the other side like that

She said it was like that when she took it out of the box which I thought was odd. How can it happen with a new pony?
 
I really have no clue. Maybe moisture got in, it could be a flaw in production, I have no idea. It’s such a shame for a MIB pony to be like this though…
 
^^^ what Storm said seems about right; no one really knows exactly how but it does happen :(
Maybe a rusty washer was used during production or the box was kept in moist conditions, no one would really know for sure
 
It does look like the shape of a washer but it's surprising to me because G3 plastic is usually thicker than G1 plastic, so I wouldn't have thought it would show through like that. But that does look suspiciously like a rusty washer. I think that pony has a turnable head, so tell your friend to pull of the head and check. Use a hair dryer on the neck area to soften the plastic, to make it easier to get the head off.
