So, a couple of my schipperke friends sent some recommendations for a pup to train as a service dog.

The first is a great Pyrenees/Siberian husky mix. Such a sweet boy. Already 15 lbs at 10 weeks old.

The other is a highly recommended breeder of Dutch shepherds. They related to German shepherds and Belgian shepherds. They have grooming requirements and size close to the golden retriever. (Can't afford a golden. Too many inbred health problems. $2000 for a pup is too much for me) Anyway this boy was born 6/24/2020, so just a little peanut still.

Eee! If it where my choice I'd pick the Pyrenees/Siberian husky mix <3
I've got a soft spot for huskys even though I've never met one they just speak to me!

And whom ever is selling golden retrievers for 2000$ is being just plain greedy! Using the popularity of a breed to exploit people is wrong in so many ways it makes me sick
I'd much rather save a dog from a shelter or the street than spend that kind of money on a popular dog!

I agree with my sister the first one is definitely the winner

I have a lifelong adoration for huskies as well, plus I've owned a Pyreness (funny story behind him, I'll tell that one day). HUskies are just smart as anything. I've never met one I didn't love!

Will you have to train puppers yourself or is training part of the deal, Tak? Such a cutie!

It's difficult for me to tell from the photos how the puppies will look as adults as I don't really know anything about dogs, I think both are very cute puppies. But I guess I would also choose the first one. :ponylove:

I would also choose the first one. Especially if the second one has special grooming requirements.

I used to be a groomer, so I can handle it. I'm leaning towards the Pyrenees mix. Great Pyrenees are great dogs and I love huskys. He'll be a big boy, though. Most likely over 100lbs. We'll see what my mom says, because I would need her help financially at first. Also, yes @evilbunnyfoofoo I would have to do the training myself, just like I did with Wesley. It was so stressful, but having the ability to go to a store or on a walk without another person is such an amazing thing for me.

I agree with the overpriced dogs. I tend to steer away from shelter dogs, because I'm actively trying to discourage the activities that contribute more dogs to the shelters, plus, I really need a pup without any behavior issues that I'll need to address. As a service dog, they need to go literally everywhere with me. Most people don't notice my Wesley since he's little and behaves exactly as he should. A bigger breed has to be even more calm and unable to startle. It takes so much socializing. Wesley goes to my doctor's appointments, the schools, school functions/events/concerts, shopping, the movies, hotels, airplanes, etc. You name it, they need to be able to handle it with aplomb.

I admit, I'd prefer to train the dog myself. That way you're the person they bond with. I think in the end you'll have a way better poochie. You did so well with Wesley, training another shouldn't be too bad for you!

Well fudgepops. Maybe this delay just means a better pooch is on the horizon.

I would totally give you half. (Tax break, lol ;) )
I'm sure that the right pup will come into my life when the time is right. It would admittedly be very hard taking care of a pup while recovering from carpal tunnel surgery.
