The Dangers of Benzoyl Peroxide

Acne creams containing benzoyl peroxide were touted as a cure for permanent marks on ponies for years,
until the evidence began to show over time.

Sometimes, years will pass before this irreversible and permanent damage even begins to show. There are tragic stories of collectors who purchased a rare pony, only to find out months or years later that someone had tried to remove marks from it by using benzoyl peroxide, and now the pony is only worth a fraction of what they paid as a result.

These ponies have been nearly ruined as a result of someone using benzoyl peroxide to try to bleach out stains. The resulting damage is permanent.

From HeckYeahPonyScans:

  • Sometimes the discoloration will SPREAD from the original spot where the cream was applied.
  • If the pony is in physical contact with other ponies, they too may begin to discolor or fade.
  • Sometimes a pony will not start discoloring until years later.
  • Although most of these ponies are blue, even white ponies can discolor (getting yellow spots).

Even today, you will sometimes hear people advising you to use acne cream. Don’t do it. It’s not worth the risk.
