I'm waiting for Guava Lava and Baby Tea Lily in the mail today (well, I'll likely see them tomorrow since I'm working late today), and now I'm so nervous about the baby's hair... They looked fine, just frizzy, in the seller's photos, but then again, they obviously didn't look brushed, sooo... fingers crossed, I guess.

Hi all! It's been a while since I was last on the TP, but I saw this thread and just wanted to share that I dug up my childhood Pretty Parasol from storage last week and found the pink in her hair all gone. I didn't bother getting a very good photo unfortunately, as I was just gonna send it to my non-pony friends and I've since completely bald-ified her (her hair was cut so I had been planning to do an alternate rehair anyway for a while), but seeing as she's not mentioned in the list I figured I might as well post the kinda shoddy photo I do have. I'm glad this thread exists!!

(EDIT: I guess I didn't notice that she is already on the list with no picture. Sorry about that!! I'm pretty tired right now lol)

OH! Another one I forgot to mention (and forgot to take a picture of before removing her hair sadly) is Rainbow Dash II. Her orange stripe was starting to disintegrate on me

Oh, I also have a pretty parasol like this :[ it's so strange that only the pink in her hair falls out (I would also be willing to provide some pictures of mine if that would be helpful? it affects her tail as well)

I'm at least glad to know that this is a known and recurring issue and not just a me problem lol. After I thrifted pretty parasol and started washing her hair, I was pretty shocked when it started falling out in gross clumps lol.

hello! I made an account just because this thread helped me out while I was panicking abt this and I wanted to contribute to it if at all possible. I recently got my g3s out of my parent’s storage building and was going through them. I encountered a completely bald McDonald’s Sparkleworks, and unfortunately my Sunny Daze is about to share the same fate.

I had been undoing the ponytails i made in their hair as a kid and hers just started crumbling the moment I touched it. I noticed it mostly with her mane and not with her tail, but I’m sure when i go back and try to brush it out the tail will probably follow.

Unfortunately I didn’t have good memory as a child so I can’t say what release she was. Ngl I am excited to try my hand at rerooting for the first time when i take the rest of her hair out lol.

I reached the part in my cleaning my pony collection where I hit the Avon ponies. And as far as I’m concerned, these were patient zero. I looked back on my Twitter and and April 2014 was when I first discovered these, and sent out the first tweet to some of the other collectors that I had on my timeline, and it was news to them.

Initially it was just the magenta stripe on Jazzmatazz, but as of right now baby Wave Catcher’s orange stripe is also gone. I wonder how my Peach Surprise and Tea Lily will be when I prep them tomorrow.

My new darling Comet Tail has instantly lost a whole strand of her hair after being washed and styled. Her other colours are fine, it's just the dark pink that's she's lost. Her tail seems fine for now, but I haven't brushed it after doing her head.

I doused my two Rainbow Flashes and you can really tell the difference . . . Pony on the left has nylon hair, her hair looks and feels wet and is visibly damp. Pony on the right is polypropylene or whatever; her hair was immediately dry, the water just rolled off it.

The water test should also work for Petal Blossom.

It took me a while to find this reply haha! But I wanted to add for others who have rainbow flash or want to get her. I recently bought the single version of both rainbow flash and petal blossom and I can confirm they both have the nylon hair. I washed both of their hair and it turned out completely fine! I washed their’s when I did other nylon ponies too and it felt the same. I did have the other version of rainbow flash as a child with baby romperooni and now having had both versions, they’re super different. I can still remember how the original one felt

It doesn’t look like peach surprise is confirmed on the list above, and she has lost in her case the orange stripe which is the other color that came off baby wave rider for me. While a good chunk has come out of their tails, some of the orange in the tails for both of them is still clinging on.

Every now and again on my social medias I do a pony of the day hashtag. I wasn’t start doing it on Tumblr but I work on an outdated device and they recently informed me that my iOS won’t be supported, so I’m not sure if I still want to start that. XD

Anyway I took some pictures of the Avon girls, so if they are of used to anybody or want to be added to the thread I figured I’d dump them here just in case. But I think we’re set with them.



Another funny thing I noticed, you can see a needle point in between the two rows of hair as the machine went over to the other line. It’s especially prevalent on my Jazz Matazz, there’s more than one at the very top row of magenta that fell out. You can see it as a little diagonal line from row A to row 2.

That’s a good question that I’m not sure if anybody’s fully answered yet. I remember asking that question back in 2014 but I’m still not sure. If anyone has a box of them, give it a shake. XD

I'm eyeing up the set, but I like handling them (I want loose sets). I have seen some loose Tea Lilys (Lilies?) that have full magenta hair. Maybe they're from the set?

Washing them would probably answer that question.

looks like we can add some mcdonalds g4s to the list of possible ponies. this is lily blossom. i didn't take a before pic, but i got a duplicate that's completely fine for comparison. as i was brushing, i saw her tail "lengthening", flaring out, thinning, and coming off onto the brush with barely a touch. not even sure how these things even HAVE tails in the first place considering you can't remove their heads.

I have a McD's Apple jack that does that and as far as I could tell the hair wasn't put in right and could be pulled lose from the little metal crimp thing that's hidden way inside her butt.

Yeah, the best way to tell is to see if it’s actually disintegrating and not just pulling out. My Comet Tail was so bad I made a fist and the hair turned into crunchy bunchy confetti. XD most of the rest just pull apart if you tug some strands, and you’ll see that the strands come apart in short clumps, and leave behind a stub in the pony. That Comet Tail was my worst one so far. Though oddly satisfying.

I know Flippity Flop is on the list as not confirmed, but I just tried to brush one and had hair everywhere.


Short broken strands.


Slightly more visible on her tail.


Matte body, shimmer version.

There's no obvious bald spots, yet, but I'm not going to wash her to find out.

Edit: I'm still picking strands off me. They snap when lightly pulled rather then stretch like nylon - it's definitely poly-hair.

Before I start writing the post I’ve been writing in my head for the past few days, I do want to confirm about Rainbow Dash II. So far for me it’s just her yellow stripe, but the rest of the hair is a little frizzy and I think some magenta came out of the tail.



So I got to the super long hairs in my cleaning and I am pretty bummed about it honestly. I was taking most of these in stride, but I was going through a rough time in life in the early 2000s when G3s first came out, and these were among the first ones I bought and helped cheer me up immensely during that time period.

I have tried my best to keep it from going down the drain by using damp paper towels and wiping the sink. Which is a bit of a process but I feel better about myself. XD



RIP Baby Romperoonie’s cute little hair curl. I was so proud when I got that to happen. This was pre-wash during the initial combing process.



And here’s Rainbow Flash, also pre-wash after combing. Just realized I never took a picture before that, but you can see the decent amount of fall out.



Here’s their post wash pictures and what’s left. It’s really funny how that purple streak on Rainbow Flash stayed and everything else started to go.





Finally Petal Blossom. Her fallout isn’t as severe but she definitely has a decent amount. I should probably just cut my losses and lop it all off since it’s one color and I don’t have to worry, but it just makes me too sad to do so so I’ll just deal with the consequences of my actions later. You can also see some of the process I tried to mitigate going down the drain. Bonus, little picture of what I carefully picked out of her brush that got stuck over the ages. XD

This is the most pictures I’ve uploaded and I work on a much smaller screen the most on mobile, so hopefully I haven’t missed anything up. XD but it meant a lot to me to be able to take pictures of this, and hopefully share them with people who need them. Maybe one day I’ll be able to save up and hire somebody to do all this rerooting, and I’m sure you proficient rerooters who love the process are gonna have your services utilized a lot soon.
