So I've started collecting recently and I've noticed that some ponies don't have the metal kind but others(all of mine including one G3.5) do! Does anyone know why they do plastic and metal washers? I thought it might just be a year thing or depends on where you get them but thought I'd still ask and get other people's opinions or find out the actual reason! :]

I don’t know the actual reason for some being plastic and some being metal, but if I had to guess, it would be that maybe people started noticing the metal washers were starting to rust in certain ponies’ tails, so they began to start using plastic ones more? Or maybe it was because they noticed that the plastic ones weren’t as sturdy or strong as the metal ones so they started using the metal ones more? I really don’t know.

I know some of my earlier G3 ponies (2005) have plastic tail washers and most of my latter G3 (2006-2008) ponies have metal tail washers so it might have been because of the latter reason.

I would like to think it was for a quality reason but knowing how toy companies work it probably had something to do with money
Yea i feel like this was probably a high candidate for why lol. Toy companies get stingy.

This is interesting, I had no idea some were plastic!
Same here! I found out about it when I was getting ready to clean up my ponies. I knew that G1 had metal washers so I decided to look up if G3 did too!

That's true lol! Based on what another commenter said I think they decided to use plastic in the beginning, it was too flimsy so they used metal again or they decided to use what they already had instead of making new washers.

That makes a lot of sense! I think it's probably that latter too or they just decided to use washers they already had instead of making something new
