Whhooooooo's your buddy?

He's doing fab! I think Saturday will be his release day maybe.

I'll be naming him "Gone" in just a few more days. He's already becoming restless and showing me signs of recovery.

I'll make sure to take pictures of his getaway flight!

Gone...with the Wind XD Call him Rhett Butler maybe. When he leaves you can reenact Scarlets part or something. Yay for a fast recovery. Hopefully that silly bird will stay out of the road. Hey how smart are owls?

They are incredibly smart, but bright headlights stun them at night and is a cause for them getting hit by cars. We always drive slower in the evenings to give us a chance to stop for critters if we are on side roads.

They're exceptionally smart. and learn quickly. He's already learned that I have delicious food, so he never is aggressive now. He looks forward to me so I will give him yummy tidbits! I am really looking forward to releasing him. I truly fancy him, but I know he is anxious to get back to flying and hunting for himself.

Yea sure, I would like living there too if I was getting food and not having to work hard for it lol. He is living the life right now. Its like he is on a major R and R vacation. You may set him free and at dusk he will show up on your porch every night for chicken gizzards. ROFLOL Just look at the nightmare you may have created. A spoiled owl. LOL Then a week later you will go out and 4 owls will be waiting for chicken gizzards and by the end of the month at least 10 will be waiting. It will be a Hootsie Party much like teens have where word gets out there is a keg and they just keep a commin.

The lady who runs the Oklahoma rescue/rehab that has been so helpful joked with me that you never rescue just one bird of prey. She says once they know you're a sucker they'll mark your door like the hobos used to do! She told me to expect more. They just come once you put it out there that you'll help them. :D

Haha I can imagine your owl teaching some other owls how to play Emergency on the side of the road so they can get yours guys tender loving care too. XD

Seriously, you just get cooler and cooler! I also love owls although I'm qualified to just look and not touch! My house is about a quarter mile from a 40 acre nature park and my property has 10 big oaks. We have a pair of owls that live in the park and hang out in our trees at night. I've never seen anything but just their outlines as they wait til it's very dark to come over here but I love to hear them. My very young years were out in the country and we always left the windows open and night. I loved to hear the owls then, too!

Hope this guy has been deemed healthy and could be released!

Due to severe storms, his release has been delayed, but tomorrow is looking very good for him to go home. I think it hasn't hurt, giving him plenty of extra food will have him flying fit.

I do hope to get some good pics of him soaring away. Last owl pics were grainy and awful.

Well fudgesicles and fiddlesticks. Today was not the day. Even with perfect weather and sun, our owl friend had some difficulty and only managed to hop about. He couldn't fly yet. So we let him enjoy the beautiful weather for a while, in a safe yard away from predators and then caged him up for a while later. Maybe in a few more days.

If not, he'll be shipped off to Oklahoma. I do hope he recovers so he can be released here. I think he will be a great neighbour.

Oh wow. He is one big hansome boy. Lucky for him you found him:smile:
I hope he can be released into the wild again.
Is Oklahoma a sanctuary for wildlife that can't be released back into their natural homes?

Oh no it sounds like maybe something got broken you think? Could he have a fracture thats not visible to you? Does he move his wing at all in his little carrier? I was wondering if maybe he had nerve damage in it. Send hugs from Tulagirl. He is too precious. I couldn't sleep much last night and listened to all the owls hooting away up in the tall pine trees in my yard. It was like a symphony in the middle of the night I don't get to hear often. There was one call I was not familiar with. Its a species that I didn't know we had. I have to try to figure out what owl it is. I thought we mainly had barn owls and screech owls. There is another fella out there.

The lady there rehabs and releases, but also does permanent homing for the ones who cannot return to the wild for whatever reason. She is amazing with birds.

I'm concerned I may have missed something as well. I'm lining up a vet visit to have him checked again. I hope it's nothing too bad, because i would've set him back by not getting it treated sooner.

He eats well, and every day he seems stronger. Hopefully soon he'll be on his way. I've really enjoyed his company. He is a very good listener, something I've needed. I have secrets and I hear owls never snitch.

Oh yes, you can tell an owl anything. They will never ever give away a secret. I saw a screech owl watching the traffic from up under a bush in the Walgreens Parking lot. It was so cute and tiny sitting there in its dark spot. I think it thought it wouldn't be noticed, but I don't miss much.:p
