I grew up with the g1's. My mom practically collected them for me, just kept buying and buying... On her whim.
I look at a couple posts here, and I'm starting to wonder if the reason my mom bought me so many ponies was because I was Tom boyish. I looked at my older brother as a role model and dressed like him sometimes.. So now I wonder if my mom was trying to balance things back out. XD
If so, it worked because I despise jeans now and wear nothing but leggings and skirts...
As a kid I ended up playing with ponies and Hot Wheels cars. Held the ponies dearly, and boxed them up when I came to the age where it was no longer considered appropriate to play with them...
When the g3's came out, it was around the time where I graduated high school.
I was so surprised and happy, because the g3's seemed to be an improved development from the g1's, be ause the bulky kind of ugly size of the g1's was not repeated in the g3's, but the cutesy Hasbro trademark look of mlp was very well-present in the g3's.
As a personal opinion, I think the g2's and g4's lack the cutesy trademark look that screams "Hasbro My Little Pony".
They are cute and appealing in their own ways, but stray far from what a pony looks like. XD
I was quite surprised that I liked ponies at all as a child: I wasn't really a tomboy but I always played with cars and trains and spurned the dolls with fluttery eyelashes. But I loved animals which I guess was why ponies appealed to me.
I know what you mean about G2s and G4s being different. G1s and G3s are whimsical and soft and I think flowers! fairies! ice-cream! when I look at them, whereas the G4 toys (a lot of which don't even have real hair :shockpony just scream NERDY ANIMATED STUFF! Not that there's anything wrong with nerdy animated stuff, but as a collector I want ponies because they are aesthetically appealing.
