Who here loves G3 ponies?! Any childhood G3 lovers who are now collectors?

I grew up with the g1's. My mom practically collected them for me, just kept buying and buying... On her whim.

I look at a couple posts here, and I'm starting to wonder if the reason my mom bought me so many ponies was because I was Tom boyish. I looked at my older brother as a role model and dressed like him sometimes.. So now I wonder if my mom was trying to balance things back out. XD

If so, it worked because I despise jeans now and wear nothing but leggings and skirts...

As a kid I ended up playing with ponies and Hot Wheels cars. Held the ponies dearly, and boxed them up when I came to the age where it was no longer considered appropriate to play with them...

When the g3's came out, it was around the time where I graduated high school.

I was so surprised and happy, because the g3's seemed to be an improved development from the g1's, be ause the bulky kind of ugly size of the g1's was not repeated in the g3's, but the cutesy Hasbro trademark look of mlp was very well-present in the g3's.

As a personal opinion, I think the g2's and g4's lack the cutesy trademark look that screams "Hasbro My Little Pony".

They are cute and appealing in their own ways, but stray far from what a pony looks like. XD

I was quite surprised that I liked ponies at all as a child: I wasn't really a tomboy but I always played with cars and trains and spurned the dolls with fluttery eyelashes. But I loved animals which I guess was why ponies appealed to me.

I know what you mean about G2s and G4s being different. G1s and G3s are whimsical and soft and I think flowers! fairies! ice-cream! when I look at them, whereas the G4 toys (a lot of which don't even have real hair :shockpony:) just scream NERDY ANIMATED STUFF! Not that there's anything wrong with nerdy animated stuff, but as a collector I want ponies because they are aesthetically appealing.

Yay for all the drool worthy pics!

It's fun thinking about the G3s, I miss them.. I miss G1 of course too. :sadpony:

I didn't think much of G3s when I got into MLP, probably because I didn't even notice their existence, other than a vague memory of scanning a store shelf in search of characters I recognized (a fruitless endeavor). Plus I was already a teenager when they showed up, so that might've helped. I think I was still bitter over not having been able to enjoy G2. :sadpony:

Now, though, I really like them. I like coming up with distinct personalities for them, and I love the variety. If I had one thing to nitpick about, it's that G1 was more focused in terms of sets, but then again that wasn't G3's main concern, so whatever. I even like the specials a lot, even if they do have problems (there is only so much on-modelness one can take, for one). My favorite is A Very Minty Christmas.

Favorite G3 ponies... My favorites tend to change ALL the time, but Kimono and Minty are definite mainstays. And I guess Winter Wish. I just love her color scheme. It's not your standard pink/dark pink arrangement, and compliments the Rainbow Dash pose perfectly, in my opinion. Just makes me feel all warm inside. :satisfied:

Yep Puzzlemint was released with some plug n' play game!

That’s awesome! Both of my kids are all about cars and trains. My daughter is off and on about ponies, and my not-yet-2 year old son seems to be all about the ponies… a part of me in the back of my mind is thinking “brony in training!†however the rest of me just thinks that babies have no distinction of gender divide at this age. XD

(Boy do they ever get into it by kindergarten though… LOL!!!)

I think what kept me interested in the ponies by the time g3’s came out to make me decide to snatch them up, is the colors.

As a kid even though my mom largely collected for me, I was attracted to the color themes. The animalistic factor of them probably played into things too, but I think what attracted me to the fandom is the colors.

Subconsciously, I think that’s what goes on with a lot of people, is they’re drawn in by the colors.

Even though I was into Hot Wheels as a kid, now that I think about it, I was heavily drawn to the rainbow logo of Hasbro mlp’s. In that respect, they were very successful and knew what they were doing by making a logo they way they did…

My favorite g3’s… I’ve never really sat down and thought about this before, but this’ll be fun browsing through galleries.

Dream Drifter- the tie-dye symbol sells me on this. I’ve never seen that on a pony until I saw this, I actually don’t care much for the hair, pose and eyes but that symbol has me sold.

Then Daisy Paisley… OMG… paisleys with a gradient and this dynamic pose. LOVE.

This Starbeam, I can’t resist- whenever I come across her, I immediately think “Wish Bear†from the Care Bears and I think of the original Care Bear artwork which I was heavily influenced by as a child.

Precious Gem is one I hold dear in my collection. Everytime I see her I immediately think “Rainbow Curl†from the generation 1 series which was my all-time favorite growing up.

Then Junko Mizuno….
She has to be my ultimate all-time fav. Not because she’s all extra rare/exclusive and all that, it’s because her design appears to have a Japanese influence, of which Traditional Japanese art is one of my biggest muses.

I think one of my happiest times during custom pony commissions, is when the awesome MayCrestMom sent me her Junko Mizuno as a physical reference for a commission. *______*

Even though I held Junko for a short time, that was all I needed… XD I was happy to make her a boyfriend (I named Hades) then sent them off together.

Not me. I was well into my 20's when G3's came out. I was still in the G1 only mindset through most of their run. I kick myself for that now. G3 was a great generation for MLP....well, at least it was until the core 7 took over. Hopefully Hasbro learned their lesson on that one.

I was in high school when G3 came out and it started me re-collecting. Apparently I had TONS as a child (I was born in 88 ) that I took everywhere, but my mom sold most of them at garage sales before I was old enough to protest =/.

Finding one of my old Cabbage Patch ponies + getting Pinkie Pie and Kimono (my first G3s!) restarted my love of ponies!!

I'm a child of G3.lol.My first one was Bowtie.Turns out she was the limited edition one from 2004,and i removed her from the box, broke her leg ( a small crack where her leg meets her torso) and had my brother super glue her.ugh.owell.anyway,now i have 41 G3's,20 G1's,26 G4's,and the core 7 G3.5's,for a grand total of 94 ponies.i am fortunate enough to never have lost any.thank god. Now,I am a 17 year old collector...although i still have the childish impuls to take all new G4 ponies outta the box. lol

I just can't resist posting pictures! Here are some of my absolute favourite G3 ponies:

Desert Rose
Her colour scheme is so simple, yet so perfect! It's such a pity that her hair fades so easily.

sappireshores1.jpg

Sapphire Shores
I love the blend of colour in her hair, which complements her gem. Her cutie mark is one the prettiest I've seen!

periwinkle1.jpg

Peri Winkle
She's almost like Sapphire Shores, but with a white body. I love putting the two of them together. Her hair is stunning.

Twinkle Hope
Oh, Twinkle Hope, do you have to be so rare? I'm expecting her in the post. I paid the price of seven ponies for her, but she'll be worth it!

Look at how pretty they've made her!

Yesterdaisy
Aww, her colour scheme simply reminds me of cotton candy. I love her pose too. Some people find the walking pose boring but I think it's cute. She's coming in the post too!

tealeaf1.jpg

Tea Leaf
Her pink and yellow hair makes me drool, and I love the way her eyes stand out.

Precious Gem
Got to love her long curly hair!

February Violet
She is my one. Most. Sought-after. Pony. She is perfect in every way. Why can't I find her anywhere? Most of the birth flower ponies are stunning.

springbreeze1.jpg

Spring Breeze
I love how all her whole colour scheme is pastel. She looks so soft and lovely.

lullabelle1.jpg

Lulabelle
She comes in the same spring basket as Spring Breeze, and aren't they both beautiful! I love the colours of her hair.

Sorry for the long list. I had to narrow it down quite a lot and it almost made me cry. :cry2:

Definitely me. My first pony was Moondancer (in that slumber party set) when I was about four I think....... my love grew from there and now I'm obsessed.

I was about 12 or so when the G3s came out and I was all over them. :satisfied: My aunt actually bought me my first at Hamleys on my 12th birthday. It was Sweetberry and I still have her.

Course, a few years later I went through a whole 'I'm too grown up for these' phase and sold most of them :cry2: but I kept a few.

But now, at 21, G3s make up most of my collection. Bronies can diss them all they like but I will never stop loving them.

Aw, it's so sweet to see collectors who had G3 as their childhood ponies! Kinda strange, too, lol. I was 13 when they came out, and they are the reason I started collecting. I love G3! I still get kinda sad when threads about them up, especially with tons of pics like this. I like G4 but I miss G3.

sigh I was 5 when I got my first my little pony g3 wysteria :satisfied: i loved her so much but mum sold her with my barbie's :cry2:

I what to get her so bad

I love all of these sweet stories about G3s. :satisfied: I'm glad some of you decided to say and become collectors. It's just as much fun as an adult as when I was a kid. :smilepony:

My first memory of G3 was the post that someone made on here with the very first pic ever of a G3 pony. Some how she had gotten one before it came out in stores. I am pretty sure it was G3 Kimono. Oh and how beautiful!

Then, later at work a friend of mine surprised me with G3 Sweet Berry. She was my first G3 pony. I squeeeeeed a little bit and everyone thought that I was nuts! haha but I had to get her out of that box, smell her and brush her hair!!!

*not my photo* and OMG I love that pose.

Here's my two girls from my childhood, they still look great and I'm so glad I kept them!
Wisteria and Tink-a-tink-a-too!

SAM_1269_zps9c29a302.jpg

Took the photo as I was packing them all away, I hope these two survive another trip!

And G3's I love would probably be ponies from the cutie cascade series, they had gorgeous designs! In particular Dream Drifter! I had to buy her as soon as I knew she existed  And Desert Rose is such a pretty delicate girl too :smilepony:

I have always loved Wisteria I love her name and her sweet symbol design. Such a pretty pony!
