I love this thread,it's so much fun to read about where it all really began for each of us!
I was born in 89 so I missed most of the G1 craze, however,it was a solid Fact that Every time we went to the thrift store there would be a bag with at least 2 ponies in it. My mam always bought them for me and so I began hunting and collecting as a toddler basically! I had probly about 70 as a child and like I said, the number slowly grew each week as we went to Value Village to hunt.
Ponies,Barbies,Playmobil and LPS were my fave toys to play with. I used to carry great bundles about by their tails as well!
I pretty much played the same game or some variation every time and it never got boring. I had several Troll dolls and they were the villains who would capture the ponies. I had a big troll who had a cloth body which had a velcro opening,I'm guessing she came with candy in her stomach originally. She was the evil queen and the other trolls would capture baby ponies for her to 'eat'. I'd cram the poor babies into her stomach! I also had the Strawberry Shortcake carriage which I'd use in a plot similar to 'Firefly's Adventure' in which the trolls would capture ponies to pull the queen's evil chariot! Essentially the trolls were forever capturing them or I'd have an imaginary bad guy.
I took mine in the bath all the time! So much fun! They'd have to cross the dangerous slippery edges of the tub and inevitably certain ones fell in and had to be rescued or the sea ponies would save them. Surprisingly, none of them seem to have suffered for it.
I Loved the Sweetheart Sister ponies best,So gorgeous! For the longest time Sundazzle pony Sunbeam was my only one and one of the only ponies bought brand new. I adored her so much and once took her to the fair with me. I took another SHS out with me one day and she sat on the table while we ate at a Chinese place. I very nearly left her behind! Yikes!
I think my 4th and 5th BDays were MLP-themed. My Mam made a beautiful cake with flutter Rosedust on the top and a rainbow arch over her,I have pics somewhere. I still have a few napkins and plates.
Oh,I remember another thing! The flutter ponies were like tweenage baby ponies and I had specific families which stayed together and babies were assigned to ponies whose colors and symbols were most alike. So Posey's daughter was Rosedust, etc.
