Hey, the Big Brother pony here again (I refuse the title brony, as I am a G1 fan first, though I do love FiM). And I was wondering; among the non-brony fanbase, are there any that like the shows as much as the toys? My little pony & friends, MLP Tales, and even the G3 Specials.
And I do like the toys, I have Firefly, Bow Tie, and Majesty (though my cousins and my cat did horrible damage to her.

) And did anyone else want toys released of the moochick, Tirek, Danny, Nightshade, and Katrina... but maybe that's just me.
 
"Escape from Katrina" was one of my favorites, but I dunno if I'd have wanted her in toy form. Her lizard? dragon? minion (whose name escapes me- it's been a while!), maybe... I vaguely remember thinking, as a kid, that his transformation ability was diabolically cool.
 
I loved the shows as a kid :) Quest of the Princess Ponies was my favourite episode and i really wanted Princess Tiffany as a figure (didn't realise that the princesses had been made till i became a collector) I still really love a lot of the G1 epsiodes. I was never a huge fan of the Tales episodes, there just wasn't enough magic in them for me.
 
I always liked the Midnight Castle episode and Escape from Katrina. Scorpan is wicked awesome! I never really desired the lesser characters in toy form. I had a bushwoolie as a child and rarely incorporated it into my play. The G1 cartoon was always my favorite show!
 
I am a fan of the G3 ponies, and I liked Minty Christmas. I thought that was adorable (and I am a bit of a scrooge, I don't like Christmas specials).

For the current line, at first, I wasn't so pleased with it (they look like mutant deer!), but after seeing the show, and after my daughter got some of the toys, they grew on me. I still think they look like mutant deer, but they are the cutest mutant deer I have ever seen.


My daughter (who the question doesn't apply to, but I will throw her into it anyway) loves anything MLP. Shows, toys, all generations. Even the creepy looking 3.5s. She says they are 'funny looking', but loves them anyway. She is a fan of the toys first, but is very enthusiastic about the shows. She has seen the G3 specials, the 3.5 movie, FiM, and I have shown her a little bit of the G1 cartoons on youtube. She loves it all. She doesn't have any G1 toys, but she does have some G2 ponies and loves them (but she hasn't seen the Pony Tails show at this point).
So, for her, as long as it is My Little Pony, she approves of it all.
 
As a kid I always wondered why there was no Danny doll. It would have been nice to have them all Megan, Molly and Danny.
 
Yes, I would have bought a Danny Dool, and a nightshade pony, as well! ^^

Glad to see there are so many fans of the older shows ^^.
 
In my case, my interest in MLP is actually first and foremost due to my nostalgic affection for both the original G1 cartoon and MLP Tales. I do love the toys as well, though, even though im not a collector.

And while i know im beating a dead horse here, i still cant get over the hatred from some parts of the FiM-fandom towards the old cartoons (as well as towards, well, practically everything related to anything pre-G4 MLP). I know fully well that the old cartoons are rather cheesy and cheaply made, and i understand the opinion that a lot of bronies have that they aren't very good shows (even though i personally love them). But when someone goes to click on a G1 (or Tales or G3) MLP episode on Youtube ONLY because he wants to get an opportunity to say "OUTDATED GENERATION! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!", thats not stating an opinion. That's being a troll and a complete jerk.

Sigh. I really should try to stop thinking about those sad "extremist-bronys". It just ruins my mood...

Oh well, on another note, yeah, i would have LOVED to see some of the G1 cartoon villains turned into toys as a kid. Especially a smooze toy... not that i can for the life of me imagine what it would have looked like though. :p

My own personal theory is that it's a confidence thing, sort of like how many guys will go out of their way to prove themselves straight. Probably doesn't help that a fair number of bronies emerged from troll sites originally and are used to expressing themselves in that way. At any rate, you know what you like and it's not up to anyone else's approval.
 
Ho-ho-ho, how I've waited for a thread like this! Even if I'm about to get clobbered over the head. =p

I was introduced to My Little Pony through my Petites, and later some rent tapes of the G1 show and movie. I had absolutely no idea that there were toys of the characters in there at the time. I have to admit though, I tend to like everything MLP has to offer, animation-wise. Yes, that includes G3 and G3.5. They just bring out that inner 4-5 year-old child in me that I don't think ever quite came to realize her full potential. That, and I actually enjoy watching bad/incredibly cheesy stuff that you can just laugh at how ridiculous it is. :biggrin:

I have to say, while I love FIM, I will always be partial to Tales. I was always a sucker for slice-of-life stuff, and Tales was just that... Set in a magical land of PONIES! Plus it was the first MLP show I watched on "sit-and-wait-till-it-airs" TV. I'm still peeved at learning the toys were available here. If only I had noticed... If only... Now I wouldn't have to save up just to get one. Just one...

*Ahem* FIM is what finally got me into MLP for realz, so of course I like it a lot. I do wish it leaned a bit more on the action/adventure side, though, they're awesome at doing that.
And congrats to Hasbro for *FINALLY* making toys of characters from the show. That's one of the things I used to make me... Well, not angry per se, but bothered, that the show and the toyline were not in tune with each other. I'm still waiting to see Lily Blossom, or Blossomforth, or Snowcatcher and the like somewhere in the show, though.
Also... I brought this up on the Toy Fair page, but... I can't be the only one who'd love a Discord figure. ;)

I've always wished G2 had at least a special or something (the videogame = not enough). Leaves kind of a huge gap between Tales and G3. Anyway, as far as toys go, I'm more of a G1 girl. Shows, definitely FIM and Tales.

I LOVE Midnight Castle and Escape from Katrina. Those are my favourites above all. The style of them is so awesome. I also love G1 ponies too and collect them. I loved the TV show and Tales as well I grew up watching that too.

I like the G4 show and toys as well I prefer to buy the toys only based on ones that are in the show. Or ones that are really nice :)

I too find that some of the bronies are quite annoying. Not all of them are annoying of course it is the few that ruin it for others. It is the same in every fandom. It is like the weirdest thing you start re collecting a childhood toy for 14 years and then BAM it is suddenly... cool?

Yes, some bronies can be annoying(I'm a big brother pony, not a Brony), but there are some good ones, too! I just wish they wouldn't trash earlier gens! ><

I like the old show as well as the new one. I do like the toys much more though. I don't however think I would've got into collecting if I hadn't liked the show in the 80's.
 
We watch My Little Pony & Friends on a regular basis here. When my daughter wants to watch MLP she'll let me know if she wants HER episodes or MY episodes. She calls mine "Mommy's Old School Pony Show). ;) I have to admit though, I've never seen MLP Tales. If I could find them somewhere online to watch I'd definitely be interested, but I've yet to see them available for streaming or dl anywhere.

I love that the original show has introduced the girl to so many of the ponies and characters I loved so much as a girl. It's given her more of an appreciation of the G1s, and there are a few she'd actually really like to have in her collection now. The seaponies are her favourite, and she'll erupt into the shoo be do song on a regular and rather random basis.

I'd have liked a Catrina figure, and I know my daughter would like one even now. I'll always be able to hear her voice in my head saying "Baby Moondancer". LOL
 
I think the MLP Tales cartoon is on youtube. I'm not sure if all the episodes are there though.
 
I must admit, FiM drew me into the pony fandom. But, as it was with Dissidia Final Fantasy, I became intrested in the gens from before. I watched the first special on youtube and loved it! I just adore the old-school feel to it, since back then I never saw it (I was quite a deprived little girl ;P)

Overall, though, I prefer the toys over the shows (G1-3). I think it's because I like to give my own personalities to the ponies, rather than just use what the show gives them.
 
I love 99.9% of toys from each generation and virtually every minute of every generation's animated series. I don't like the "It's Harvest Time" song from MLPT and I don't like the giant ponies wearing diapers in stores now, and that's just about it. I don't talk bad about what I don't like though because I'm not so arrogant as to expect everybody to like everything I like and only what I like. Most things that I didn't like when they were first released grew on me later, making me regret buying them at Hasbro prices.
 
I loved the shows as a kid. I used to wake up at 5am just to watch, and I never was a morning person.

I still watch the old eps from time to time.;)
