G1 Basic Fun Retro Ponies: A Collector's Guide

My 3 from Walmart shipped and I snagged Aurora from Amazon just now. Woo!! I've been waiting with bated breath for these girls!

But I agree, at first some people might try to resell for high prices online but I bet they'll become more reasonable once the initial rush calms down and I would assume they will restock or even perhaps be found in stores in the weeks to come.

My parents like to remind me at Christmas of that CPK year and how they waited in line for hours, in the cold in the middle of the night LOL
 
I just ordered the Celestial ponies and RaMC mini set. I can't wait!!!

About the 40th anniversary Collector ponies . . . some of them have have different symbols aka cutie marks, but not in the way you might expect.

So, some of the vintage Collector ponies have different symbols on each side. Like vintage Butterscotch has six butterflies on one flank and seven butterflies on the other.

35th Anniversary Butterscotch has different symbols on each side, whereas 40th Anniversary Butterscotch has the same symbol on both sides. This is also the case with Minty. I haven't checked the other Collector ponies yet, and I'm not sure if all of them even had differing symbols to begin with.

Some of the ponies also have slightly different colors, most noticeably the new Minty is more vibrant green and her hair is silvery-white instead of stark-white.

Also the eyes are different (larger) on the new Collector ponies . . . I think they remolded the head.

Seeing the eye difference in this comparison makes me wonder how different they look viewed from the front :blink:

whoo hoo thanks a million for keeping this post going and for updates = yay!!! success on my amazon order for all 4 celestial ponies I am so happy christmas came early :) can't wait to post when they arrive (sucha kid when it comes to MLP)
 
I will probably only snatch Milky Way since I love monochrome ponies. But what I am more excited about is this set with the pearly Cotton Candy and Blossom :ponylove: waiting for those to get wider circulation and finally reach the UK and the EU!
 
Amazon just let me know that suddenly, they aren’t able to ship Aurora yet. Is this because they aren’t officially released yet or are they all just backordered? I’m alright waiting, but out of curiosity, did this happen to anyone else?

I ordered Aurora on August 10 and it's out for delivery today, but I noticed they're giving estimated delivery dates of late August/early September if I were to order now. Sometimes Amazon gives me a date far in the future and then suddenly it ships out much sooner, so I think there's a chance it will still ship much sooner than it estimates. I don't think it has to do with an official release date since they shipped mine already and each pony is now showing a different estimated delivery date, with Aurora's being the latest at September 5.
 
I ordered Milky Way like two days ago and she got here today. She's so beautiful! ;; I'm gonna go back for the others when I'm employed again but she was low in stock on amazon when I was looking so I panic-bought lol. Ugh I love these guys so much.

Edit: ruh-roh, my favorite one is already off sale price. Might've made a miscalculation on this one.

All of my ponies have arrived! I'm so thrilled with them! They're so pretty! :happyhearts: Also, I just realized the swirl pattern varies from pony to pony. :Posty2:

I'm also including pics of two Basic Fun box cartons in case anyone is interested...it seems like maybe each pony comes six to a box? They reused these boxes to ship the ponies in and for some reason they separated the order into two boxes even though they could have fit in one box.

I got my 3 from walmart today and i love them! I have aroura coming from amazon. I really want to display them by the hang tag, but i am worried the heavy paper might break down from the weight of the box. Anyone have a solution or do you think hanging it on a thumbtack of ok?

I picked up the pearlized set at Target, and oh boy let me tell you they are meant to be left in box. The packaging is really pretty and obviously geared toward MIB displaying, but it has so much tape and plastic inside. I guess it's probably fine if you have no qualms about just tearing the packaging apart, but I was trying to preserve it so I could use it as a display later. The ponies are super pretty though. <3

The SDCC Majesty is very similar. I’ve never been able to free her because I’ve been terrified of not getting her back in
