So there has been something bothering me. Over the years ive seen many a seller overcharging for bad quality ponies or dolls (among other things) simply bc of what they are. No matter how bad the quality is. Of course everyone has the right to charge what they like for what they sell, but its not very nice to take advantage :( . The most recent example of this is a particular Monster High booth at my local thrift, i obviously wont mention its name or show the entire display. I have no ill will against this seller and of course we all have our reasons. Perhaps they really need the money, I try to keep an open and empathetic mind. However if there is no reason for the overcharge other than theyre monster highs, please do not do this as a seller.

This particular Posea Reef is in horrible condition, unfixable. Shes destroyed, that ink isnt coming out :/. It looks like they or someone has tried to apply baking soda and realizing it didnt work didnt bother to fully wipe it off. This seller is charging $20 for this doll. Again Im keeping an open mind, but most of their dolls are not in great condition (and cost the same or more) tho not as bad as this. This particular doll goes for 23-28 dollars MIB on ebay. Shes not a rare or expensive doll. If this is simply to overcharge due to brand, I just wish sellers wouldnt do this. Im not judging this person, but that price is wholly unfair. Maybe im too nice and forgiving.. However Ive seen this gross overpricing even more lately with Monster High everywhere. Its I honestly dont think this doll in this condition is worth 5 dollars let alone 20.

Have yall come across the same thing?

I agree with you wholeheartedly. If they're going to charge top dollar for something, then it had not only better be in good condition, but the seller had better take the time to make sure it looks good too.
Whether that be toys, houses, cars, or clothes.

Furthermore they need to learn to price accordingly. Its not as if these people don't have resources. And if that "super rare," filthy, naked, rat-haired dolly isn't selling for $50, maybe it's time for them to take a look at other listings and realize that the super common, well groomed $15 dolls are selling for good reason.

I think they will be dissapointed, I think because of the rises in cost of living, even well presented items aren't selling for what the seller wants. I don't see those pink marks ever coming out of that doll :/

Sooo, updates on this *siighh* this seller is rediculous. I went back to check this booth and the seller has changed all the price tags to say "FIRM" above the prices which leads me to believe a lot of people have complained which doesnt surprise me. Also, more messy gross dolls for rediculous prices. The thing is, the dolls aren't unfixable,id love to take them home and make them brand new. But this person is REDICULOUS. I always try to keep an open mind but its sooo underhanded.

There was a Frankie there, pictured below, super filthy and has completely the wrong arms, they have Lagoonas arms. Specifically veryyy scratched up Lagoona arms. The clothes arent Frankies clothes. Just in general they should be worth maybe 3 dollars. Can you believe this seller is charging $25 ???? WHAT EVEN. Of course I could get this Frankie back to looking brand new with a good scrubbing, styling, spending money on new arms, and buying the proper outfit but theres no way on earth I could or would spend $25 dollars on a doll in this condition just so i could spend more money fixing them up. I could get this doll with the proper arms and clothes in better condition for cheaper on ebay.

There also was this Draculaura and her eyes are covered in paint or makeup, im not sure it was pretty hard like paint. They were charging $18 dollars for her. Depending on what was put on her eyes, this could be a permanent problem. Acrylic non water based paint probably will never come off short of just acetoning her entire eyes off and repainting them. No one is gonna pay 18 dollars for that.

This just infuriates me, bc these are dolls I could be saving and giving a better life. These dolls could be happy and fixed up with a new family. Instead theyre basically being abused and held behind huge price points. They just gatta sit there being picked up and set back down over and over. They deserve better. TnT </3

You are so right, cos we have to think about the cost of restoration materials etc. I wonder if she has ever actually sold anything

>___>"" *Sweattts* I bought 2 dolls from them like a year ago.. but that was only bc i managed to find two with their entire original outfits and only missing like one accessory. The only thing needed is a deep wash and no other money spent. I think I got them for 17 bucks and to be completely honest i just felt sooooo badddd the dolls were being left there under such a high price i just tried to find two i could somewhat justify getting. Altho 17 dollars for filthy dolls is still REDICULOUS even if original clothing is present. I just felt so bad I cracked while i had the cash. I dont have that much spare cash on me now, and tbh even if i did i wouldnt buy another bc of the condition of the dolls. It just makes me saaaaddd.

I do notice that some dolls have gotten bought over time and i gatta wonder if it was by people like me that felt so bad they had to get at least one. They often add new dolls to the display and it makes me wonder where they get them and it would make me soooo mad if they were getting them from other thrift places at low prices and then up charging. I truly hope not... >n<.. Its just fhfhdu soo maddening. Theyre blatantly just being a crook. Again i try being open minded but this kinda behavior is not kind regardless of reason. Especially writing "FIRM" on all tags as if theyve argued with people before and had to write it on the tag. Which would mean theyve listened to collectors try to tell them they arent worth the money theyre charging and wont listen. Its like theyre either scaring customers away, pressuring people to buy dolls at the prices they ask bc people feel guilty enough to buy them, or just someone has so much money they dont care about price.

Hoo boyy, y'all. My grandma wanted to see the antique mall today so we all three went to take her. The guy who runs that doll booth was there and I mentioned the dolls were kinda expensive, and he said " Yea they keep getting more expensive" under the assumption i meant monster high dolls in general. No, i meant HE has them too expensive. I asked him if hed lower the price any and he offered to take 5 bucks off one and 2 or 3 off another but theyre already like 15 bucks over priced so that does nothing. I had to turn him down. I wanted SOOOO bad to educate him on doll prices but i didnt wanna start anything. He had a Ghoul Spirit G3 Cleo Denile from the set that just came out in December, and he was charging 25 dollars for her. She came in a 6 doll set that costed like 70 dollars. Meaning 11 dollars a doll. Not to mention she was missing some clothes. I should have said something but i dont like confrontation >n< Im so maddd. Him acting like 3 dollars off was some good deal. Just ruudee.

I don’t understand how some sellers get away with these ridiculous prices. I can’t even sell a G1 MLP for over $9. Seriously! The only time I’ve managed to buy a pony for under $15 is if I happen to find one in a thrift store! And I hear now, Goodwill automatically pulls anything ‘of value’ for their online platforms making even that near impossible.

I know nothing about Monster High dolls but I tend to see them a lot at my local thrift stores. Any I should be on the look out for you guys? I promise I won’t charge $20/doll! :lolpony: (They’re usually naked but not terribly inked or scratched like the ones posted)

Edit to add: I don’t try to sell for profit but it’d be nice to not be constantly selling at a loss.

Just avoid him! He sounds like a "I know what I've got!" seller XD
100% Him. I was trying so haaardd not to show I was mad. Its a place where the vendors dont stay with their booths. They only check their booths maybe once a week to tidy up. So ive never seen him before.
When we first walked over to the booth I told my grandma " the guy who runs this booth is a crook", then i realized he was in view and I went...

Luckily he didnt hear me  someone needs to tell them tho...not that theyd believe it.

And yea, to your other post, i do wanna fix them T_T I just wish i could bring them home and wash them up, and make them happy. I saw a Silvi there and i wanted her SOOOO bad, she actually wasnt dirty but someone crammed metal rings in her ears id have to take out and fix her hair. I cryyy. Theres several lagoonas too that are legit brown with dirt. Most of the dolls are. I just wanna save them T_T

Who is that purple haired girl? :flutter2: I love her!!

Uuugh I can’t stand this, I see it done with ponies too! Saw a Flower Bouquet for $45 (which is a bit higher than the usual $30 or so) but she had a chunk of vinyl missing off her leg on top of that! Naturally, you’d think something that’s tougher to fix than just some basic repair would bring a price down, but apparently not. Honestly I would have liked to try my hand at repairing something like that, but not for over the price I could have gotten for one that was in almost new condition!
