I realised I have been saying I have a small collection, when I actually have about 40 ponies... and that sounds like quite a lot to me! :uhoh:

What do you judge as being a small/ average/ large pony collection?

How many ponies is too many?!

well... ahem, i have about 400 :p
i'm not sure what's a "small" or "big" collection. i guess that's just up to you what you are happy with :)

I have just over 100 ponies now, but only because I was lucky enough to get 78 Mint G3's in one lot for about £50 xD

I think the definition on the size of your collection depends on your aspirations...Such as, if you have a collection of 40 ponies, but there are another 200 ponies that you want in your collection...I would say to myself 'my collection is small' xD

Theres no such thing as too meny ponies! lol

I have about 350 ish in my collection, and theres about 100 150 more i would like.....

I'm about the same as cannibalcow, I had about 400 at last count, but then I sold a lot, and recently got a lot, so I have no idea now. It seems like a heck of a lot to me, but not in comparison to some people I know, 1000+ is a terrifying figure!

I've never actually counted my ponies, because I never thought "I wonder how many I have?" But I'd say it's probably in the vicinity of 100 between all three generations.

My boyfriend has been complaining the last few weeks because I finally have all of my stuff back and he's realized how many ponies I actually have, haha. HE thinks my collection is huge and that I have "too many". I promptly corrected him by telling him that a lot of people have sooo many more than I do, and he should be happy that I haven't asked his mom to build me a Pony Room yet.

He freaked. lol.

How true :D

I have about 300 G1s as well as animal friends, Megans, bushwoolies, Mommy Charms etc. I think that is a very big collection given I have only been recollecting seriously for about 14 months but not big compared to some collectors who have been collecting for years and years. There are still loooooooooooooots of ponies I would like to collect someday so I guess my collection will end up big one day

I think different people have a different idea of collection size. Some people want an entire US collection *sighs how nice would that be* while others only concentrate on a few sets that they really like - I thinks its a personal thing what constitutes a big or small collection :D

I have about 50-60 ponies and I'm amazed that 100 ponies or so is considered to be a small collection. But, I can use that info against people who say I have too many ponies.

I've lost count of my collection but I know it's over 1000 between the three generations...

And of course that isn't even counting all the little stuff I collect like the accessories, books, backcards, stickers etc...

I had to buy a big house just to put it all in. :D

I'm planning on hosting a meet in May to get some help going through it all and displaying it. I'm hoping to have it in some semblance of order by then, well at least all the pony stuff together... Maybe I'll take a head count then.

But I know there are still more ponies that I need and want, you can never have too many!

I have a bit over 1000. It can be overwhelming. I have all but around 50 of the g3s, I have maybe 30 G2's, if that, and the rest are all G1s.

My wishlists are so woefully behind that I'll never catch them up, and...It's just a lot of ponies. I keep them in bins and only display a few at a time. I have to stay mobile.

I am in between 350-400 ponies. I would say that I have a medium sized collection. I am thinking that I might have about 600-650 when I am finished. Or I might blow right past that. lol

:icon_smile_lachuh: I know once I get my own house, I'll have a pony room. Specially made shelves with glass casing to keep the dust away and pets from bothering them (not that my bunny can jump that high)... Ah dreaming.

The first time my bf came to my apartment and saw the part of my collection that's on display he froze. I warned him there were quite a few, but I guess he didn't realize how many "quite a few" really was!

Anyway, I forget who said it, but I agree that whether a collection is "big", "small", or somewhere in between is relative based on how many the individual collector still has on their want list. Although if you have a collection of say, 5, then I think it's a general consensis that that qualifies as small, quantity-wise, but it could still be majorly impressive.

I think ultimately as long as the collector is happy with their collection, then it's the best collection for them regardless if it's custom baits from childhood ponies remembered or super rares. :catmoon:

I have two hundred and ninety-five ponies. (With four more on the way and three more swap boxes coming my way by December ... I'm sure I'll pass the three hundred mark well before Christmas!). Actually, if I count the fakie collection, customs, and the few doubles I have, it'd be three hundred and eighty something. Given the size of my want list, this is probably about a third of my desired collection...

However, I want to keep my MLP collection below 350 until I get a place of my own. That's my goal - to go no higher than that for the time being. (When I have my own house ... look out, ponies!) Which means I'll have to slow down my pony collecting, and maybe trade some of the ponies I don't quite like so much for ones I like better!

I think 350 is a good number, though. Big enough that it's an awesome-sized collection, small enough I can still remember who I have!

Skimble

I used to consider my collection quite large when I was a kid (about 70- I knew nobody, not even my spoilt-rotten niece, who had that many). Now, I don't consider it that large now I know how many ponies there are. But, it certainly ain't small I don't think :p

I hope to get to the 100 mark by the end of the year. I have about 85 now, I'd say.

Wow that many would be overwhelming - but soooo impressive :D

The only thing I think about if I ever get to the point of having that many ponies (who knows it might happen one day) is how to display them without the luxury of a pony room . . . I like having mine on display where I can see them to me that's one of my fav parts of collecting :D . . . I had to put them into bins when I was moving and hated it

That's a good point - imagine if somebody said "oh I've only got 5 ponies" and they produced Repunzel, Mommy and Baby Pony, Sweet Scoops and Mimic or something similar - lots of collectors would happily trade away their big collections for that :D

I have 8, but I'm hoping to treat myself to one or two special ones for Christmas. Maybe the Ponyville Advent Calendar if I can find it.
