G4? Say no people!

Thank You! It has been driving me batty everytime I see a topic discussing the new G4s - They are still G3s!!

To the G2 and G3 no time gap between the generations in europe debate : This was not only a new design, new launch but also new characters oh and new land: Ponyville I believe the G2s lived in the Friendship Gardens.

The G3s are the G3s no matter how ugly they make them. They are still the same characters in the same universe but they changed the look. - Not G4 still G3s.

Thank you for pointing this out whip!

I saw some people calling it G4 but I wasn't sure whether I should or not. It didn't seem correct.

I tend to call them G4s to differentiate them from the last batch of ponies that are/were anything like real MLPs. These things are just so ugly and so non-pony like that I can't bear to associate them with any other generation.

That said I get the point, no gap in between, same characters etc etc...so I'll go half-way and call them G3.5s if I have to.

I hope the upcoming G4 or whatever, to resemble the G1's... To look like ponies and not aliens!

How about G3 monstrosities??? Can we call them that?

I'm guilty of calling them G4s, thought that because the look of them changed so dramatically that they'd be considered a new generation (G)!

I was going off the obvious difference of G1s and G2s and then again from G2s to G3s....yes, there was a break from "new" ponies coming out between each of those generations, but each one is dramatically different than the last one.

I do think that we should each call them what we want. I for one don't think these ponies deserve the title of G anything. As long as the others around us understand what we're talking about, it's all good.

Also, when my 15 year old saw a picture of one of them he said "Holy crap! The head looks like a giant zit!" Now I just want to pop them..........

G4? No...it's the same generation people. There was no end of production, it's just a design change. Just as the sister ponies and dream beautys are not a different generation. We really should not call them G4 unless we go back and change the generation for every major design change.

G1... big plastic Pretty pony
G2... collectors pose
G3...normal ponies
G4 flutters?
G5 Sister ponies
G6 Dream Beauties?

No...we can't go that way. It's G3 until they stop production for a while then start up the line again. So please...for the love of pete...call them G3 chibis or something.

This is just my own very opinionated opinion...feel free to ignore me.

I call them G4s (or other less flattering names) to people I'm speaking to in person and New G3s' or G3.5s online. I really don't dig the new figures, although some of the art people are making of them is adorable.

The good that comes of all this is that finally the G2 line has a set that they can laugh at

 New reality TV show idea...

Really? Why was this bumped back up?
Call them whatever you bloody want.
Call them heffelumps and woozles. Good grief.

I like the reality TV show idea . . . a few G1s, G2s, G3s, and whatever-the-bleep-the-newest-ones-are . . . all locked in a house together. :allecto:

As far as what they're called in the end, it's going to be whatever the most people settle on, whether it makes logical sense or not. Remember when the G3s first came out? Up to that point people had just said "old ponies" (G1s) and "new ponies" (G2s) and now there was this whole new set, OMG! I remember some people pushed to call the three generations "Dream Valley ponies, Friendship Gardens ponies, and Ponyville ponies." Instead someone (who?) stole the G1/G2/G3 labels from the Transformer fandom! (Well, actually there aren't any G3 TFs, but that's another story.)

I'm pretty sure the newest ponies are going to end up called G3.5 or G4. I don't care which wins . . . Regarding the new ponies being established characters, it really doesn't matter. Transformers has redone Optimus Prime and Megatron and Prowl and the other popular TF characters over and over and over, but the toys belong to different generations (even when they're literally the same character.)

I've been calling them G4, and I honestly have no plans on stopping any time soon, especially since it's annoying so many people >.> I don't see the problem, really. The problem is the ponies, not people calling them by a name that other people don't agree with.

I don't think anyone is right. Ponies are ponies, the package doesn't say "My Little Pony, Generation 3".

But what happens if they go back to the original G3 style? Then how can you still call them G4 ponies? They are still making the old mold art ponies so..... '

Call it whatever you want, a pony is a pony. :D

My gawd, this thread spans 10 pages and I almost fell off my chair reading the replies. lol

According to Hasbro, they consider the line still G3.

Personally, I think the new direction has veered so seriously off course that the chibis almost warrant a category of their own and may be good as a G4 even though it is not recognised by Hasbro.

Still, these are core 7, the same boring 7 ponies we have been suffering since mid 2008, so I either refer to them as G3.5 or G3 Kids, and people know what I am talking about perfectly. lol I do kind of like how they look, but I just hate the 7 characters, even Sweetie Belle has taken a toll on me.
