I really need some hair tips.. if there's a trick, I definitely missed it.

I have never been able to figure this out. I almost feel like I'm the only one with this problem since I've never heard anyone else mention it.

I have a number of ponies with dry hair. Yes, there are some severe and sadly unfixable ones, but I'm talking about the ponies that only have a moderate problem.

My main victim is Ice Crystal.

His hair is perfect and uncut with the exception of his tail. I've conditioned it several times, and right after the conditioning his tail seems fine again, but like a week later it just returns to how it was before.

It's like.. dry to the point of his tail not having that natural curve anymore, you know? It's not frizzy.. just DRY. I have tried like 4357034957034 different conditioners, including the moisture intensive stuff you get with hair dye, and sure.. it always works for a while. Like a couple days. I just gave him a bath about an hour ago and his tail is soft and silky.

But I can bet you Mimic's golden horseshoes that it will just go all dry again in a short time. Ugh it's so frustrating..

Help? :-(

Do you leave the conditioner in? I use Mane and Tail conditioner (good for my real horse too ^^) and leave it sitting for an hour or so - or overnight for extra effectiveness.

So far, I haven't had a pony I couldn't fix with this method - and I've gotten some really messy ones. It seems to be the trick with all artificial hair, actually, wigs included.

Another tip would be to not brush it after. I doubt you've been doing this, but just in case - the more you brush it after, the more likely it is to return to its original state. So I'd comb in the conditioner, leave sitting over night with it in, then gently rinse it out and set it in a style you like. If it dries looking satisfactory, just leave it alone. Like, don't touch it at all in this case, because it sounds pretty severe.

I leave the conditioner in for maybe 10 minutes, ahah.. maybe that's not long enough.

But what you said about not combing it after - do you mean like.. at all? Because Icey doesn't just sit on my shelf, I handle him and brush him a lot.. =P

I have the cure all for dry hair on the tails! Particularly with a pony like Icey who has a white tail.

Give him a new tail. Pick one from a common white tailed pony and replace it. *giggles* Seriously though, you will like him more, he will look better and there are tons of less rare ponies with white hair.

Lol! Whippet, now I feel stupid for missing the obvious answer.

Haha. Yeah, if you want to have him as a play pony, you totally should just replace it. Might want to try sitting the conditioner in it for a long time first though. You know, to see if it solves your problem. If you really enjoy brushing his hair, that's what he's for, so go for it I guess. Especially since now you have a good idea to fall back on.

It's just that from what I can tell, that's usually what causes the hair to become poofy and gross. So be warned. ;) (I don't mean to sound so gloomy about it. Good luck!)

I swear to you Yuixie.. Paul Mitchel Skinny Serium.
Its liquid plastic for softening hair so it will work fabulously on PLASTIC allready hair :p Sometimes it feels a wee bit greasy but I think it does wonders ^^
Give it a try!

I have struggled with this same problem many times. If you do not want to replace his tail, try Bedhead "after party" you can buy it at most beauty supplies and some supermarkets. After years of working in high end salons, I have tried everything and this has been the best.
Feel free to PM me.

Gotta agree with Whippet on this one. The thing with pony hair, whatever you do put on it has GOT to come off at some point, because it all damages the hair in some way. So, the nice silky tail you get after putting conditioner on it will go away when you remove whatever it was that made it silky. The best solution is a new white tail. I suggest an old Twilight or Powder, or even just brand new dollyhair.

Maybe he has a black hole inside of him that keeps sucking all the moisture away? I dunno....I'm not very helpful xD I can't say i've had hair that bad though - I Agree, get him a new tail from a common G1. Let us know what happens <3

I would try ironing the tail before changing it. It usually works just great :) But it the tail is perfect but just dry I would try leaving the conditioner for a loooong time. I left it on one pony over night and she is lovely now.

just wanted to say thanks for asking this question Yuixe!!
i just got one of my grails: Argie love melody
and i just LOVE her!!!!!
but her hair is extremely dry!
i did the same thing you did: 10 minutes with conditioner today. she does look better but i think
and after reading all these great replies i am headed to try the over night method :)

i will take before and after pics too!!!

*hooves crossed*

I've never tried it, but it doesn't sound like a bad idea..

I got the same results as with the conditioner. Heat straightening or replacement has always been the best for me.
