Jem Llama, is He an MLP?

I was wondering what the collecting commuinity's general stance of whether or not Jem Llama (or Jem the Llama, I don't know his offical title) was part of the mlp collection. Is it like the Fairy Tail Birds where they kind of have an overlap but not really and only some people collect them?
Also I read that he is kind of poorly made, his blanket is cheap and his fur comes off easily. Does anyone have him and can confirm/deny. He's on ebay atm and I want to have a nice thing and he seems like a nice thing.
 
I admit, I had no idea there had been a Jem llama toy! He's super cute though, so I could see you being attracted to him. Llamas are just awesome, after all.

I dunno anything to tell you about him, but if you think he would make you happy, I say go for it! You deserve a treat.

Yeah, apparently he was in an mlp catalog advertised as a pony friend, but he was origianlly supposed to be Jem's pet or something. Apparently his name is Rama and not Jem.
Also apparently he was only released in Canada, bought time we had an exclusive something or other, and it only happened like 30 years ago.
 
I haven't watched Jem in probably that long. I wonder if Rama made it into an episode. Like I would remember at this point!

I looked him up, he's pretty darn cute. That wild pink fur is pretty 80s-tastic. I have a feeling my llama Beth would frown upon me trying to due her such a colour...

I read about him on a Jem fansite. I would probably get one if the price was reasonable.
 
Can confirm Jem's Llama, Rama Llama was sold as a mail order product in the later years in Canada. I believe she/he was in the same flier as the pearlized Baby ponies.

I've only found one in all my years of searching.

Agreed, he was listed as an MLP friend in a Cdn mail away offer (I want to say around the time of Spunky and Creamsicle coming out, but I might be wrong) but I think in the community in general he's not really considered a part of the MLP line.

I have never heard of him and don't remember ever seeing him in Jem either. Runs to look him up.
 
I've got one MIB, don't remember how I found it, just odd how it was related to the MLP mail orders.
 
Seems like Rama Llama is a weird enigma of a concept that kind of popped up. I don't think I'll buy him and I'll save my money to a cool pony. But since he was only released in Canada perhaps I will find him on one of my flea market adventures one day.

I have a Rama Llama with the brush in near mint condition. I am not a collector I am trying to name and sell my daughter's collection from when she was a child (she's 30 now). What would it be worth.

On ebay there is one going for about 100 bucks, but that one has the blanket too. I'm not sure how much value not having the blanket retracts. Can anyone else shed some more light on his value?
(Also, I may be interested in buying him, I need to think about it some more)
 
from my understanding (and I am by far no expert) of what I have read The mail order Rama Llama didn't come with a blanket in Canada

I appear that he was released in other places, but in Canada he was advertised as a pony friend. Dunno about him not coming with his blanket in Canada, I'll have to look into it more.

This Rama Llama is from the Jem and the Holograms mail away. The Jem mail away version came with the blanket. The my little pony mail away didn't come with that blanket. Very cool!

Yeeeuup. He's not MLP. I've seen every episode of the old Jem cartoon, and I never saw him in any of them either :p I love the old Jem cartoon and the dolls, but it was way ahead of it's time. I think he was also shown with these dolls that looked like molly dolls but different hair and clothes, but they were never made.
