G1 Lavender Woosie? How rare is she and why does she exist?

Something that always made we wonder was the pony Wooise. Most commonly, she is a blue pony with yellow hair. However, a far rarer variant of her is out there in lavender. I've heard that this lavender Woosie is more rare than mimic?
Why did they make another version? Is there any information on this in version shown in magazines or advertisements? Was this a later change, an error, or was the first version? Are there any other situations like this in the US release of g1? Thank you!

My Little Wiki has pictures of a MIB Lavender Woosie that honestly just raises more questions.

It almost seems like she's a Nirvana, which would easily explain the color variation, but she was definitely released in the US.

I’ve seen her sold on the nirvana group. She’s fairly uncommon. I have only seen her once. There’s one on eBay now listed at $625… none in the sold listings.

I didn't even know of the normal Woosie until AFTER I owned the lavender one. Also, the one I owned may very well be that one on Ebay, since I remember her color was very "opaque," not as pretty as Pillow Talk or Blossom, and she needed cheek blush because without it she looked kind of sickly, but something was wrong with her cheek blush. The one on Ebay has off-center blush, so I'm glad she isn't lost. I'm not saying she is ugly, but how would you feel if you were me? :frustrated::reaper::ponypoop: She is the same color as 1st edition Princess Sparkle, :Princesssparkle::streaky: but maybe more gray, but it wasn't a clear gray, it was kind of sickly. Maybe that is regret talking, but she wasn't worth as much 1998 anyway, certainly not over $600.00. I Thought she was broken because I could intuit something was supposed to happen with the tail...I was squeezing the wrong end

Back in 1998 I found Baby Sugarberry, lavender Woosie, Speedy with roller skates, three Sundae Best Ponies, two Brush 'n Grows, Rainbow Curl Stripes, Quackers wearing a yellow floral dress with red flowers and trim with shoes, it was crazy. There might have been more collector types other than Woosie and B Sugarberry, but it's hard to remember. Probably a lot of things I didn't recognize as MLP or passed right over out of personal dislike.

I have dropped my bitternesss about trading lavender Woosie (probably for multiple commons) and I was able to move on and start purchasing regular Woosie and the other Happy Tails ponies only this year. :ROLO::romper::telltales::tossles: For those of you that remember Dream Valley-I tried to trade her to Kim Shriner for Mimic. She didn't go for it. IF that Woosie on Ebay is the one I used to own (and the cheek blush and opaque grayness make me think she is) then the hair is/was a little bit dry, though not dry enough for a flat iron to fix, could even have been a little dry OOB. The hair may have also been straight rather than curly.

She has red eyes and symbol. The eyes are darker and more intense red than Izzy Moonbow, but lighter and brighter than Pretty Vision.Regular aqua Woosie is the rarest Happy Tails otherwise, and her eyes are a beautiful brown/burnt orange. When I noticed how pony eyes are even more emotional, soul full, and personal when they are a natural color, I reminded myself that lavender Woosie should go to someone who loves how she looks or makes them feel. I wasn't a fan, so I traded her to someone that was. Brown(ish) eyes are very rare, so I'm glad regular Woosie and the complete set is affordable. :ROLO::ROL:

I have sold many a pony for far far less than they go for now. I’m still holding out a sliver of hope that prices will go down a bit.

Soooo, before this gets widely out of hand let’s debunk some things here first.

1) Euro Woozie isn’t “rare.” She is a common pony widely available in the UK and other European countries. She was a widely distributed overseas, so in North America she is more difficult to get a hold of and thus carries a higher price tag now. A simple search on UK EBay shows us this you will always find at least one for sale.

2) Mimic isn’t “rare” by any means. She is simply a sought after pony by collectors and always has been. She’s only reached the pricing she has now because of the pandemic pricing and people coming into the hobby of MLP collecting and rumours spreading like wildfire of her supposed “rarity.” She’s not at all rare, just sought after.

So, the biggest lesson to be had here is geographical variations are frequently not rare to their location but sought after to those of us who live outside of the demographic the pony was initially sold to. Things to keep in mind when you are pony shopping for “Nirvana” ponies.

It’s all about what people are willing to pay. I think there may be less lavender woosie in circulation, in the North American continent, because her coloring lends itself to being discolored more easily, too. I’m sorry if I misspoke or sent the thread out of hand. I did say that I’m not an expert.

I'm not sure how rare she is, but I once found her at a thrift store (in the US). I don't think she's a UK or Euro exclusive (although she might have also been distributed there). Way too many people have found her in the US.

I have no idea why she exists, though. Not only is her body a different color, but so is her symbol (magenta instead of yellow) . . . so it seems like a purposeful design choice, not a mistake within the factory or whatever.

My best guess is that at one point Hasbro planned for her to be lavender, then decided on blue-green instead, but had a miscommunication with the factory, leading part of her production run to be the earlier color palette. This is JUST a guess, I have no proof, but that would make sense imo.

From what I can tell (and I’m no expert, just someone who spends a lot of time reading on forums and wikis), Woosie was released in the UK with a lavender body, but as a regular pony, not a happy tails pony. Lavender happy tails Woosie on the other hand seems to be a US release, since folks keep finding her in the US and there’s photos of her MIB with the price tag listed in US dollars.

Well, then, maybe I did not own the one currently on eBay...that makes me feel so much better. Not only is she lavender with red eyes and symbol red, her hair is also yellow, instead of chartreuse. Another thing about Happy Tails Ponies that is weird is that Tabby and the one that came with a flourescent hair extension are pictured with brown hair on the back of the box.

Where is the thread for things that ARE wildly out of hand? :hmph::tongue::coolpony: J/k Skybreeze, Thanks for the clarification! I really do prefer the more turquoise version with gold eyes.

Since we're talking about Woosie, especially the lavender Woosie, I have been seeing a couple Princess Woosies on eBay lately. I thought they were fairly rare but seeing a couple having sold in the past few months makes me wonder how common are they?
I wish I had seen them! How much did they go for? I absolutely love her! :Princesssparkle::ponypoop:

Lavender Woosie was definitely not exclusive to Europe. She's part of my childhood collection and was likely purchased at Hills (remember Hills? It's where the toys are!) for one of my birthdays or Christmas. We definitely never traveled abroad, and she wasn't bought secondhand. Not sure where that rumor originated, but it was definitely perpetuated by Kim/Dream Valley. I didn't even know that aqua Woosie was the standard release until I began cataloging my collection when I found Kim's site around 1997-98.

ETA: I don't know why I feel the need to say 'definitely' so much.

I never did notice this too much until I saw this thread. I've never seen her being sold on ebay or etsy, which I usually buy my ponies off of. I wonder how rare she is. I'd like to add her to my collection at some point. I'm glad I checked out this thread and got more info on this pony.
