MLP Equestria Girls Trailer

By television debut, they mean they'll debut the MOVIE on tv. A TV debut is when something shows up on TV the first time. If they were going to launch an EqG series, wouldn't you think they would have explicitly said by now? In that same article, they also said the other things in the EqG brand, including web sites and YouTube content. It didn't mention anything about a show, the perfect time to do so.

Look, I was there when the news on this broke, I know what I'm talking about. If there's going to be any "series," it'll be periodical web shorts a la Monster High that exist on YouTube. They might make another DVD/made-for-tv special like what they do with Barbie, Monster High and with G3 MLP, but they're not going to go to theaters again. EqG is a launch of a big line to target MLP at a new audience, slightly older girls. That's why it's going to theaters, but only SELECT theaters. It's not even going to be shown in my state, I'll have to go to Massachusetts to see it.

Please stop making a mountain out of a mole hill.

ETA: Watching episodes online via YouTube and livestreams (illegally) doesn't gain any money from advertisers. Watching it online via legal means (iTunes, Netflix, etc) doesn't give advertising dollars, but it does give demographic data. Hasbro is still focusing on who watches the TV show, as advertising is a big chunk of revenue for The Hub, which is also owned by Discovery Communications. They want money too, you know. Airing EqG on The Hub will also make advertising bucks.

I think if any failed mlp cartoon would have bankrupt Hasbro, it should have been those half-arsed g3.5 DVD's that came with the pony figures, of which you can recognize all the same sound effects and voices recycled in various other new generation Care Bear and Strawberry Shortcake cartoon. x____x

"Clouds and Rainbows bump into each other, then bam! They burp and Sweetie Belle appears!"

I kid you not...

Back on topic, I didn't expect the human-like faces. When I first heard of this I assumed it was going to be like mlp FiM meets Monster High ripoff, meaning the girls would have Monster High doll facial expressions. x_____x

There's another theory, that this concept could have came from a custom Monster High doll with Pinkie Pie's head custom fixed on the MH doll neck.

Also saw that on deviantArt...

But if they're into catering anthro FiM mlp's to furries, I'm cool with that. No harm done.

You walk into a furcon these days and there's FiM ponies everywhere, anyways. :winkpony:

I think the television debut was them just showing the movie on the hub.... they're bound to do it sooner or later, especially with this only being released in like, a select 200 or so theatres......

I'm definitely not going to see it in theatres, but I probably will watch it at some point. Couldn't they have made them a little more like ponies? All they did was make normal teenagers with different colored hair and skin. Why no pony ears, horns, tails, and wings? They look pretty boring to me. If they're trying to ride the tail of Monster High's popularity they aren't doing a good job.

If you aren't interested, then don't watch it. It won't affect FiM. Its target audience is not bronies or collectors.

I think I need to see it more before I fully judge it, but I think it isn't that good, but not as bad as some things I've seen. I don't like the way the humans skin colours are blue and yellow and such, It doesn't look right. But Spike looks adorable as a dog. There have been some short and hilarious parodies on youtube, which are much better.

Yeah, exactly. It might be okay. I'm not going to see it in the theaters, but I'll watch it on TV. And Spike is so cute as a dog. :ponylove:

this is for anyone who is trying to justify equestria girls by saying it's for older teens:I am 17,and this is the opposite of what i think,or have ever thought,is entertaining.i'm not hating on eg just yet,i'm just saying that i'm still not too keen on it yet.
Sunset Shimmer.i really liked her when she was shown at toy fair, than when i heard she was celestia's ex-apprentice i was like 'heck yeah!this pony is awesome.'after this exhibition of her,i'm not as psyched for her anymore.she is a token mean girl.

I'm with Ringlet in that this is not for older teens, or teens at all, really. This is going to appeal to girls 7-10 who fantasize about being teenagers. As a teenager myself, I can tell you that no one in my age group, even girls a few years younger than me, will go for it. No matter how much Hasbro says it's for teenagers, it's not, an they know it. By pretending to market to older girls, younger girls who want to grow up will see Equestria Girls as a safe (read: not getting made fun of by their peers), "mature" way to enjoy MLP. It stinks that kids want to grow up so fast nowadays, but they do and Hasbro is trying to cash in on that. Being a teenager isn't as fun and glamorous as they make it seem.

Like I said before, though, I'm going to give it a chance. I'm not excited about it, but I'm not appalled or anything.

And as far as Sunset Shimmer goes, this could work. In most movies like this the villains see the light at the end anyway, so her and Twilight could very possibly be good friends by the end of the movie. Plus, I've always liked villains. This could be an interesting perspective from which to introduce her.

Nice to see something official about it. But, I don't think I care. Winx Club pretty much fills the spot I have for such shows and dolls.

My Little Pony transforms into anthro horse girls and tackles school dramas?

I think someone took to writing MLP fanfic too seriously.

Come on Hasbro, just give up MLP to someone who will keep the PONY in MY LITTLE PONY.
Isn't it enough Hasbro pushes out shoddy G4 lines, slaps G4 characters on everything and even has factories in China pushing out "* prototypes" (* read factory scraps ).

Don't get me wrong, I like G4's. This Equestria Girls thing is just a greedy company trying to beat a dead horse for more money.

I don't mind the idea, I just think the designs are hideous! PLENTY of art online is better than this stuff. Also I'm upset that this is for 30 years of MLP.

People getting mad at Hasbro? The real offenders are Hallmark and how they sit on Rainbow Brite and do NO merchandising. Oh wait, there is a 2013 Christmas ornament yay ...thanks Hallmark -_-

Well, I hope the whiners are happy. From this article from EqD:

Word has been going around that since the trailer for Equestria Girls was released, and us learning that DHX was behind the movie, that attacks have been made on the competency, the commitment, and ability of the staff to pull this off. This wave of negativity, compounded surely by the months of them nervously waiting on our reactions, has apparently gotten more than a few members of DHX disheartened and possibly considering leaving the show (MLP or EqG).
Do you see how this over-the-top whining has affected the staff? Some of the very people who have helped make Friendship is Magic the wonderful show that we all love are beginning to entertain the possibility of leaving the show.

Is that what you whiners really want? For the people who have made FiM what it is to say the heck with it and leave the show?

They didn't get the reaction they wanted so now they are thinking of quitting?

Can't sympathize with them. If they want to quit because they received negative reactions to a "side" project, then that's up to them. Honestly, if it were me, I'd accept the idea was not widely accepted and move on to working on my other projects.

Sounds very childish to me. Not everything labeled "My Little Pony" is going to be widely received with positive pats on the butt and have people climbing over themselves to support it... even some die hard fans have their limits to what they will openly/willingly accept. Recall the horrible G3.5 shows? Just horrifying to watch!

I don't see it as whining. I see it as a fan base ( brony included as they are fans just like the rest of us ) voicing their opinion about something. I won't even say I dislike EQ Girls. I just think that it's so "out there" as far was what MLP fans expected and totally different that it's not going to be popular right off the bat because it's MLP-ish.

If the creators of Garfeild decided to make him a human boy, Odie as his human brother... and John as their single father raising his sons on his own, It still wouldn't be "Garfield". It would tank because the franchise is a moody fat cat, his dog side kick and his clueless human owner. In other words, " If it ain't broke don't fix it ".

It wasn't negativity that's causing them to leave the show, it's outright death threats and hate mails that's causing people to think of leaving the show.

EXACTLY. This goes beyond "being childish" and wanting "pats on the butt."

People are just overly frustrated right now and are making internet death threats. I can't name one fandom/celeb that doesn't suffer internet trolling and email death threats.

Jackie Chan hid his marriage for years because his legion of crazy female fans threatened suicide if he were to ever marry.

Curt Cobain received death threats for his opinions on birth control.

The internet has yet to "grow the heck up" and the anonymity of it creates this idea that one can say and do anything without fear of taking responsibility or backlash for it.

I don't believe anyone should be on the receiving end of so much hate but then again you got a lot of dark people sharing a hobby and it's bound to show it's ugly face. I won't mention the gore fanfics because it speaks for itself and it's not even the worst of it.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion and to blanket blanket blame "whiners" is just as childish. Then again... I've never seen a children's show taken so seriously by it's fans and it's producers/creators that it seems G4 is probably the craziest generation by far.

It's a show that's catered to it's fan base ( a lot more than they should have, in my opinion ) and reaped the rewards. Now that there is a part of their fan base that has turned rabid, they want to just walk away from it. That's up to them. If EqG's fails or is a success, at least they ( Hasbro, DHX ) have learned that they can't hand feed a beast like this and not expect to get bit.

I agree with these snippets alone.

" 1. Everyone has a right to criticise something. If artists of any description can't handle people criticising their work, than they're in the wrong profession. That said, death threats are well over the line.

2. Honestly, I would like to see people from DHX leave over this whole Equestria Girls mess. Not because of death threats or because they're too thin-skinned to handle some criticism, mind you. No, I want to see them leave out of protest, to take a stand against Hasbro's terrible assignments and for their art.

4. Regarding Equestria Girls and giving everything a chance: I think there's more than enough material out there for people to have already given the movie its chance. We have a plot synopsis so that we're not making any major assumptions about the concept, and we have the trailer to gain an idea of the art style, humour, etc. None of that has given me any sign of anything to make this movie worthwhile. This is especially the case when you consider that this is a movie showing in theatres, and thus we would have to pay money to see it. "

" Equestria Girls, on the other hand, has: a horribly trite premise that is barely acceptable in a fanfic, let alone a professionally made film; some designs that are downright disgusting and offensive in their endorsement of anorexia; and it's written by Meghan McCarthy, a woman who can't write a story longer than twenty minutes to save herself". <- a posted reply to debate site

Like the Twilight Saga fandom, I just don't understand. :surprisepony:

I've watched a few FiM episodes. Only a few. I wasn't totally thrilled with the episodes I did watch. I think I went back to watching My Little Pony Tales or maybe even played Skyrim. :/ Twiligth Sparkle didn't learn the Magic of Friendship, she learned the Magic of Cliques. Pinkie Pie made more friends in the first two seasons!

You want people to QUIT THEIR JOBS because you think they won't agree with what Hasbro is doing? How about they keep their opinions to themselves so they can feed their families? If they don't agree with the movie, they can move to other projects like littlest pet shop or pound puppies, but to demand they quit because we don't like what their doing is ludicrous. They're not our representatives to Hasbro, they are normal people trying to get by, the same as you and me.

I honestly have avoided most of the flames over this, but that's just ridiculous. They're not murdering babies, they're making a movie.

Sending death threats is against the law. I hope whoever is doing this is caught. I don't care if you don't like something. Threatening to take someone's life over *animation* is just WRONG.

Tippy, your responses to all of this have come off as completely immature. The fact that you have yet to see all three full seasons, and then come in here and blast EQ is absolutely astounding. Hasbro is NOT, I repeat, NOT going to change an entire line that has probably been in the works for 1-2 years because a few people at DHX didn't like the idea, or that the bronies and the older fans hate it - we're not the core demographic, the kids are. That's making them money. End of story.
