I was shocked to be told by someone involved in the making of the MLP cartoons that Hasbro are considering not releasing any more due to the fact Littlest Pet Shop is becoming far more popular than My Little Pony.

Now I know a lot of you are not the biggest fans of the pony movies, but I reckon this could be the beginning of the end for the ponies as a whole too, especially considering I thought the whole idea of this core seven business was to let children get to know each of the characters?

So maybe if we all kick up a fuss now, we can save the MLP range, before the same thing happens as fifteen years ago. :nervous: Not to mention you'll be helping those of us who do love the cartoons anyways. And you know you want to help us really!

I've started up an online petition, which I will send to Hasbro at the start of August. I know these things are normally useless, but it's worth a try, and at least it makes Hasbro aware that there are still pony people out here! It's free, and it'll only take a minute of your time. Pretty please?

*The Petition*

Thank you!

This is outrageous. They can't do this, MLP was just starting to get up again! I actually thought it was getting super popular.

:censored: LPS and all of that, it sucks and the animals look like bugs. I'm so angry :eevil:

predictions of the end of the toy line Lancer??? I agree. As an adult watching cartoons from my childhood, I realize that all those shows did an amazing job of fooling me. I still love to watch them for entertainment, but if you watch them looking from a different point of view, such as, being an adult, you start to see the ongoing commercial built in to each episode, geared towards getting children to want more of the associated toy line. I fear that if they take that away, and in turn children are interested in other toy lines more, then pony sales will drop way down. And also, the kid in me, really does want more, more, MORE!!!

I could be (and hope I am) very wrong here, but I just think the TV shows are one of Hasbro's most successful marketing ploys. At least as far as their target audience, 3-6 year old kids, are concerned. It just seems MLP is going the same way as it did all those years ago. :(

But honestly, what's the point of bringing the line down to a Core Seven, so they can "develope the personalities" and children can get to know the characters better, if they then cancel out the TV shows, one of their main forms of media?

Sorry if my grammar sounds off today - I'm half asleep for some reason. :p

That's curious because when they did the presentation on the Hasbro Tour, they mentioned that one of their big things for 2009 was the release of several animated mlp shorts. Of course, I may just be splitting hairs and what they meant is web only animation.

From a realistic point of view, if the MLP line isn't drawing in the revenue it did when it first started, then there's no real point in throwing more money at a sinking boat, especially with the economy factors we're currently facing. If we had to give up anything with this toyline or anything connected to it, I'd say kill of the animation first, if it means saving money for next year's releases (hopefully better ones than this stupid core 7 *bleep*). The animation wasn't well done, it wasn't put out on a regular basis, and the storylines were made for children in the 5 and under category, and had no real...appeal to an older child - no real action, no drama to keep their attention.

Why LPS is becoming more popular, I can only guess they've given it more variety than My Little Pony these days. You can have an army of kittens/turtles/birds, but an army of Pinkie Pies is boring.

We need to pick our battles here with Hasbro. Either save the toys, or save the animation. I'd rather save the toys at this point, and tell Hasbro to give us more variety and we'll start collecting like crazy again.

Yes, I agree.
Also sorry, but I can't stand the new cartoons.
Wouldn't bother me if they stopped.

theres really no plot in the new cartoons, its just obnoxious antics. Theres no story or purpose, no drama nothing. I wouldn't be sad to see it go either. MLP I could see was being taken over by LPS. LPS still has variety, playsets, online pets etc. MLP was and is being phased out it looks like. When they slim down the number of characters and quality of accessories its over.

I've accepted the fact I will not see a G3 big brother pony, sea ponies or any of that. They released so many ponies and never really had a cartoon to go along with it to properly build kids up into it. Its the parents out there that know the product from their childhood.

i didn't care for the new shows any who. but i'd like to see the old ones return with more epsoides.G1 ones.

This is the first I heard anyone say that they're ending the cartoons (and even if they did, good riddance!) (<--kidding)(kinda). But yah, I heard they're making new ones and a MLP Live DVD.

Every so often there are doomsday posts foretelling the end of the MLP line. It's beleivable considering the lameness of some things Hasbro does or doesn't do, but I don't think they're ending animations or investment just yet. They were giving the impression like they have ambitious plans for next year. :dumbo: I don't really know, but I hope they start taking the ponies in a better direction too.

They're not ending the cartoons. They were quite explicit at the Fair that there are more in the works, but that they'll probably be doing things like releasing them online.

Online as in only watchable online? Or do you mean to order on DVD online? If you mean only to watch online then totally not a super idea because yes there are generally a lot of households with internet, but not ALL children are allowd to park their 4-8 yr buns in front of the PC either. I'm not sure if that going to boost their MLP characters.

Judging by the fact Hasbro currently have exclusive Core Seven episodes on their website, I'm guessing they mean just to watch online.

I hadn't heard anything about what was said on the Hasbro tour re. the animation, so I'm sorry if this thread is just a waste of space. I only know that one of the voice actresses in the recent shows was told by someone at Hasbro that they were thinking of cancelling MLP animation (and possibly MLP as a whole), because Littlest Pet Shop was so much more popular with little girls these days. There seem to be a lot of different rumours buzzing around here... :doh5B15D:

I don't doubt that there's a rumour regarding the LPS taking over MLP. I am sure there is sometimes conflict among the marketers on what they think works.

I hope they don't release online-exclusive episodes. My browser is acting up and won't let me play certain computer games at all or load online videos very well. :doh5B15D:

Watchable online. Webisodes are becoming quite common, so I'm really not surprised by them moving in that direction. Much better than them doing things like releasing video tapes when everyone has DVD players these days like with the first couple of G3 specials.

um

My daughter collects LPS, and I have to admit, its fun to find new ones. So many different ones, the special collector ones, and such. She has 211 pets alone, and god at least 10 playhouses. They are easy to find, and have new ones come out quite often. I think if Hasboro spiced up the MLP, they'd be ok. Besides, they released the toy cell phone, and hampers, toothbrushes, and a coat, toodler bed stuff, I mean I thought they were becoming more popular too.
