I think Idle Hands is covering the ponies well. :) Here is some nice clean shots.

I would keep note of his site for more information : Idle Hands

And here was his recent post about the wedding ponies : Idle Hands: Toy Fair 2012 : A My Little Pony Wedding

Wow, I'm totally late to the game on this one. Some real surprises in that line-up, and I think that brony pack is gonna be on my must-have list. Maybe it's not so far-fetched to think there might be an official Derpy toy someday after all.

It'll be interesting to see how the show handles Cadence after establishing a two-princess mythology from the very beginning.

Lyra...Brushie! I just hope that they don't call her Heartstrings.

:wow1::wow1::wow1::wow1::wow1::wow1::wow1::wow1:

Seriously, it seems all the new brushies were made for the bronies... I mean, Vinyl Scratch? A 1-time use character, seen for about 5 seconds, nicknamed DJ P0n3. I hope they call her Vinyl Scratch on the packaging, so the little ones can pronounce it.

I feel like the bronies are winning a battle. Taking over the MLP community and reshaping it from a tight-knit group of vintage toy collectors to a wide-spread meme fanbase.

Amazing pics! I'm so excited for 2012! :D

I'm not sure about that lol, I think they're still pretty different groups of people most times, but the great thing is that we can all enjoy these new awesome ponies! :eek:k:

Hmm... Coming from more male-oriented fandoms like Sonic the Hedgehog and Transformers, I can say I don't think that's the case at all.
IMO, what's happening with bronies has absolutely nothing to do with the older community, rather it's its own faction within the fandom of a specific franchise. It's just that Hasbro suddenly realized that with MLP appealing to a male crowd as well, they have a freaking juggernaut on their hands. It's not exactly the first time it happens: for example, Hasbro had never really thought about the importance of actual "characters" until they saw the backlash they got over Optimus Prime's death in the Transformers movie. Ever since then, they've put a lot more thought into their toys as characters that kids can relate to, especially in the fiction accompanying them, and you can see that even in the MLP franchise (Tales, anyone?). Because, as healthy companies do, Hasbro is flexible enough to take business opportunities when they see them.

So bottom line, I don't think the community should feel any sort of threat coming from the bronies's side. If Transformers fandom has taught me anything, it's that multiple emerging factions of a community can coexist and still keep a franchise going. And trust me, as annoying as some bronies are, in general they've got nothing on the sheer obnoxiousness and extremism I've seen floating around the TF or even the Sonic fandom. If the older community is as tightly woven as it appears, it's not a new faction of the MLP fandom that's going to bring it down. I think Jewel's right on the money about this. ;)

...Sorry about the lengthy essay, by the way...

Now back on topic, I do have to wonder, especially after seeing Nightmare Moon... Would Hasbro ever make a Discord figure? Because I'm pretty sure it'd sell. Though it'd still be kind of weird seeing one in a standard "My Little Pony" package, what with all the pretty magenta/purple colors and whatnot. :p

It's been something of a running flamewar on the brony boards about just how significant a portion of the market they are, with opinions ranging from a major part to utterly insignificant. Looks like we'll have a chance to see what the bottom line reveals. Also a chance to see how Hasbro's hotly debated "pink ponies sell better" line holds up.

(And for those who feel strongly one way or another about these, please leave the flamewars on those other boards. I'm not taking a stance on them here, just noting that they exist.)

When i saw those pics i literally squeed :) Sooooooo happy at it all. There's hardly anythign there that i don't want ^_^ Been a long time since i could say that about the toy fair pics lol.

Now please hasbro, please make a derpy toy and you can have all my money lol.

*smacking my head on my desk* Why, Oh why didn't I wait for the white Celestia? 00)

Oh well, I guess that means I can customise my pink one into a Luna.:bliss:

My 7 and 3 year old daughters are already asking when they will be able to land the TRU set. DJPon3 they can take or leave, but they were thrilled to see Daisy, Trixie and Nightmare Moon in there. Rainbow and Pinkie as repacks are head scratchers, but oh well. I may yet buy the set for my girls and swap those two out for two other new ponies from the main line before I give it to them as a combined extra birthday gift or something this Fall.

I'm thrilled to see Hasbro embracing the supporting characters this year. It's what my girls, as fans of the tv show, have been asking for. While Hasbro may be reacting to the adult fan base by going this route, I don't think they should just assume that children don't want these characters too, or at least a portion of them. Their most requested yet to be made ponies are the Wonderbolts, Diamond Tiara and Silverspoon.

Quoted for truth. Coming from the Star Wars collecting community, I can say this rings true. I don't think it should be viewed as a threat. With greater diversity in the fan and market base comes increasing variety in the product, and I would think that would be a good thing, right?

Wait, wait, let me get this straight.

Collectors have been asking -begging- for male characters. Pleading with Hasbro for something different, something unique, something with colors other than variable shades of pink. Asking for villaneque figures to add to your good guys, because, you have to have some sort of antagonist to your protagonist.

And now there is GRIPING bout it?

SERIOUSLY?!?!

Complaining that guys are interested in, what is quite frankly, a very girly toy line and hobby?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!

ah....

I have literally no words that can possibly get across my sense of absolute disgust at this attitue and total and utter surprise.

This is quite frankly rediculas.

Yea. No.

I like the Zecora and Trixie, but the DJ Pon3 and Celestia....ehhh mixed feelings :/

Not such a surprise rather. No matter what the fandom there is always those who don't want things to change drastically. They are very comfortable with what they are in....granted, this tends to happen when said member's are over a certain age-group.

Being an 'old' collector, I simply love the fact that Hasbro never really listened to us... but they listen to 20 year old males apparently. Thanks guys
I am really looking forward to the new line!!!

I don't want to start a flamewar over this, especially in this thread, but here's the way I see it: (feel free to shoot me down if I'm wrong on any of this)

We (the original fandom) BEGGED BEGGED BEGGED Hasbro, to stop Core 7.

We BEGGED them to include boy Ponies in the original G3 line.

We begged for other things (seaponies, etc); never happened. We got newborns, which everyone loathed (except me, hehe) toward the end of the G3 (or G3.5, can't remember)

We balked at G3.5

We begged for a decent cartoon that had a decent plot with G3s.

Then G4 happened, and suddenly we have this "invasion" (for lack of a better term) of guys who were NOT old-school collectors, who loved the show to pieces, and is now, from what I can see, getting stuff out of Hasbro that we couldn't hope to get before even if we groveled and we kissed their feet. I think that's what puts a sour taste in the mouths of those who were here when G2 & G3 were around. We were vocal back then, but they didn't listen to us. The Bronies come in, and suddenly we're getting characters from the show, instead of the show having characters that were toys.

I'm not mad at the Bronies
. I'm mad at Hasbro for not listening to a *very* dedicated group of people who have been supporting them since 1983. I'm glad we're getting the toys, but I'm sorry that they couldn't say "Hey, let's listen to the fans who have been collecting since before some of us were born and see what they have to say."

I'll point out that we are NOT, and NEVER will be, their target audience, as we're old now. Sad but true. Our kids age 3-10 will be. We're buying them, and that's just a bonus to their profits.

Back on topic: Yay! New Ponies!!

You gotta keep in mind also, that Hasbro is a Company, They like makeing money and will do anything to exploit the wallets of Bronies everywhere, Since the Brony - phemomium is relativity the biggest thing to happen to them in a long time. If it where not for the Bronies, we'd get stuck with same old boring ponies over and over again.

To Hasbro, Bronies are just another group to get money from...and earning money keeps the company afloat.

I am personally am a G3 Lover, it's not that I dislike the current G4 line, it's cute in a really anime-like way, but I like my ponies to look more horse-like then cartoony.

While I do have a talking Celestia, I only got her because, she's big,talks...and she has a more horse-like body compared to the other characters in the show.

I think at least part of this change can be attributed to current technology. Information spreads far more quickly, and can gain a wider self-enabling audience than it did even a decade ago. That isn't intended to make any suggestions about the relative sizes of bronies vs oldskool fans--but it can definitely have an effect on their visibility. Plus the whole self-enabling thing; you get a bunch of people together who're enthused about something and that enthusiasm tends to feed on itself and grow. But if you think about how many homes have broadband these days, and how it's more odd to run into someone who doesn't have a mobile phone or a computer at home, it's not hard to imagine how this always-online generation is able to congregate and organize so efficiently. Flash mobs are a perfect example. They would've been virtually impossible a few years ago.

And it could also be that technology has advanced enough to make it less expensive to create new products, so it's easier to take risks. Just some wild speculation on my part though.
