Playset and Accessory Storage

Hello everypony!

I have read a bunch of threads about storing collections and such, and have gone through my entire collection of G1s and individually bagged them and cleaned them up and whatnot (maybe not cleaned, but, brushed their hair at least)...

But now I'm starting to get into pairing up accessories with their owners, and this MOSTLY applies to the baby ponies - but, for the adult G1s, I'm able to put their ribbons and brushes in the baggies that they are individually stored in without them being "smooshed" up against the pony or whatnot...

But, for the babies, say like, Baby Glory - you know, crib, toys, bottles, necklaces, etc... - do you store these separately from them? How do you keep all the baby accessories straight? Like right now - I've put all the individual baby accessories for each pony into it's own bag and labeled it... then put ALL of those into another bag, into a bin. But, it just doesn't seem like the easiest way to have "quick" access to these accessories for when I need to add more to them, or photograph them, etc...

Anyone have any better ideas? I haven't even began to deal with storing the large bassinets and strollers that some of the Newborn Twins came with, so that'll be a feat all it's own.

And does anyone know one, giant, huge checklist for G1s that would list out the ponies AND their accessories? (Adults brushes./combs & ribbons, babies all accessories, etc.) I have about 5 checklists, not to mention the ones I've made myself for my playsets...

OOOH - that was my other question! Storing playsets and their parts!! What do you guys recommend? Most of my playsets have their original boxes, so they're obviously in there, and within that, in baggies... and all of those boxes are in bins... heh. Just a little tedious with all the packaging... but, yeah. :D

Well I have a huge container for the accessories for the ponies. The problem is I don't have room to display accessories with ponies at all. So each pony has their own baggie with its accessories that I have inside the baggie. I put a white label on the baggie to identify whose baggie it is. I do the same thing with the clothes. Then all that stuff is in a container. I do display a few with accessories but not many. I put all the accessories for playsets in a baggie and store it in the playset until I set it out for display. Honestly I can't think of a better way to do it. The cribs or bigger furniture accessories are not in baggies, I am afraid they will break. So the pony sits in their crib.

I would love a checklist like that but I can only find one for the babies that doesn't include brushes or combs or ribbons. So a complete checklist for all G1's..that would be so awesome.

Ah, alright - well good that makes me feel a bit better about how I have the accessories stored - sometimes I'm just not sure the best way to catalog all of the stuff, ya know? So thanks! :D

I think it's a good idea for me to get a separate "bin" for the accessories though, or at least another box, instead of having them in with some of my "random" MLP Merchandise stuff in a giant bin...

Maybe when I have some free time (A LOT of free time), I might be able to create a G1 checklist that's... more complete and compiles ALL of the ponies, brushes, ribbons, accessories and playsets + accessories... Problem is, I don't host any websites, so does anyone know where, if I did make a list like that, I could share it with everyone??

What I am trying to do right now is make my G1 list on the computer with everything each pony I already have is supposed to have. I am doing this in alphbetical order this time rather than by color of pony. I try to devote like an hour a couple times a week to look up all the accessories for a few and type them in. I keep my check lists inside the box with the baggies. Now I probably don't have as many as you might because, I just started collecting them. But hey..I am already feeling overwhelmed with it. I am the kind of collector that wants every pony to have their stuff..but that task may be too expensive for me at this time. Hey though..it never hurts to have a list...the more lists the better...yea to the list. Perhaps creating your document in a-reader might help because you can send it to people through an email to share it. That keeps you from having to have a website.

That sounds like a great way to organize them - myself I try to do it by release year, so I always start at 1981 and work towards 1991 type of thing. My ponies aren't arranged like that in their own storage boxes, so each box has to be labeled with what sets are inside of it, it can get pretty annoying having to pull down 10 boxes just to get to the one I need to put ONE brush inside of it...

But I might take a tip from you and just start, a little bit each week, adding to something, so that I can print it out and say, "Okay I have EVERYTHING that Gusty came with" or whatever it might happen to be. You're right though, it easily becomes overwhelming!! I don't have nearly the amount of accessories that I thought I did before I organized it (you know, once I pulled out doubles and whatnot) and I can't imagine having ALL of the ponies accessories... heh.

Well, maybe I could share the list here on MLPTP if I get it going... :D I know at least some pony could use it! :D Since people have taken the time to list of all the other things, I'd of COURSE give credit (as I'm used to doing as a scientific writer, hehe) to the people who's lists I use to get my info :D

Until I can have everything on display, accessories are bagged apart from the ponies. One bag for each year, inside a bag per set, inside a bag per pony. Labelled of course. I made my own checklist to account for everything I have, and am missing. (that part took me forever).

Wow this is even more organized. I don't have enough ponies to do this. Its a good idea for huge collections because you will need to break down those containers to handle to load. For me, my collection is small enough that if I went by year I would have a lot of empty bags LOL.:eek:k:

It's so much easier to start some kind of system while the collection is still small though! I had to learn the harder way. :eek:k:

Any empty years didn't have bags yet. Only labelled what I had. Now, some years are in 2-3 freezer bags.

Some of my oldest parts of the collection, the ponies were packed with the accessories. and, I didn't have a checklist then, or keep decent inventory. BIG mistake. Oops. So at this point, I am sure I have doubles of some of those things, I am not about to dig around and unpack ponies from 10+ years ago to check if I have extra FT accessories, or baby furniture. I'd end up making a mess. Once I have a room, with shelves and start unpacking and displaying the collection, there will be so much spare stuff to sell. :doh5B15D:

Firefly - I had to do the SAME thing. See, I stored all my playsets with whatever accessories came in the boxes... and finally decided one night that I wanted to know exactly what I had and what I was missing so I could maybe pick up some pieces here and there and finish things off...

Well, once I started doing this, and I like to make "hand-written" lists about my ponies, not just on the computer... I found SO much random stuff, so much extra stuff, it was nuts. One of the best finds was that in my original pink Dream Castle little blue trunk, it was STUFFED with original MLP ribbons. So, I found the Ribbons that the checklist said it came with, and the rest (like 13-15 ribbons) found homes with their pony owners, it was pretty awesome!

But still, I didn't have a better way to store the playsets, I just put the small parts in ziplocks inside the boxes of the playsets or the playset structures themselves, but some of them don't have protection outside the box - like my Dream Castles and of course, I am having a terrible time trying to store Paradise Estate. I have not completely dis-assembled my Paradise Estate, I know if I did, I could fit it back into it's original box, but, all the fragile pieces I have sitting in their own box separate, and all the smalls are ziplocked with the large building parts. It's just about all I can do at this point until I can get more square footage for storage space...

I never had the original box for mine. Got a giant tote though. The big kind with the hinge top. Rubbermaid I think. I did pull it apart. and puzzled all the pieces in. The pink building peices, had to be quite careful to pull off the archways without stressing or cracking the connections. Way more "compact" But it still takes up a huge amount of space. It was the only way to get it in ONE container. Other playsets are in corrugate crates. (heavy duty boxes). I'm right there with you, I can't wait until I have the Sqft to actually display this stuff. I remember how pretty the PE looked all set up with ponies displayed in the rooms.

have you considered the ornament storage box with the card board dividers ? you could also wrap them in tissue paper for good measure. That is how i would store some of the baby pony stuff.

That is a wonderful idea... I'll have to keep my eyes open for them when they start putting those boxes back out this year... I know what you're talking about but I don't remember seeing them in stores. However, I think that would be an awesome way to store some of the small loose items! Thanks!
