Takara Pony 3D models

First of all- sorry for zero updates on my print! finals week was hectic and insane but glad that’s over with.
Now that that’s out of the way, SHE’S FINISHED!!!
Sorry for the mess in the bg, I got a little excited that she was finally complete ^^’
Meet Mimi! She’s part of a line I’ve been wanting to make for a while— Osharena Ponii Idol Stars!
View attachment 84165
She has iridescent tinsel in her mane, and is styled after a certain virtual idol (Hatsune Miku, of course!)
She has long hair that appears blue in pictures, but its a gorgeous turquoise mix from Dollyhair
I’m currently working on her accessories, card art and clothes so she’ll get her own post very soon!! In the meanwhile, I do want to show the outcome after a month of planning + work ^^
I used the stringing plan posted here (I think it was from the dollightful 3D printed bjd?) and she works perfectly!
Thank you @minticat and @otteroflore for all the help + pictures and models! <3

in case anyone’s printing out a big takara btw, let me know and I’ll pass you all the notes + settings along! I’ll probably set up a doc of sorts to go along w otteroflore’s model if there’s any interest (+ with permission, of course!)
OMG that's amazing! I'm so happy someone's actually tried this!
Feel free to share any info ofc! I'd love to hear about it too!
Also excited to see what the clothes turn out like, a doll based on Hatsune Miku already sounds amazing and so cute.

When I was making the 3D model, it took me like 5 tries to get it to a place where I was satisfied.
Now that I'm working in physical medium, all that time looking at the symmetry tool has made me 4x as critical

2 days ago I told myself I would be sealing this yesterday and painting it today. Neither of those things are happening because I have Brainworm.

The arms and legs aren't ball jointed- they're just wedged in. The body is made primarily out of cosclay, which is a "rubbery" polymer clay. It is unfortunately difficult to work with and I always end up with major issues, like in this case, where the flexible head ring (basically just a half-sphere of cosclay, similar to how calico critters I made), broke. It's probably because I baked it twice; I try to avoid doing it but it says on the website/package you can rebake it safely, it just never works for me. I didn't want to bake it a third time which is why I added the air dry clay to the body for details and making the transition to the neck a little cleaner.
Anyways, I'll likely remake the body and just try to make it look real good on the first pass (I use aluminum foil inside of the body, then i can pull it out in pieces when its baked). The ears are a little too tall and I completely redid one eye (it was previously too big / too high up). The ears are also a little asymmetrical so I'll probably cut off the right (her right) one and reposition it a little.
Here's a previous shot with the larger eyes, and on the left is what the ears looked like before I shaved them down.

I think I can get away with her hands being a little more asymmetrical than the rest of her body, but it is kind of bothering me so I keep sanding the thumbs to get them to match better... but I mean, maybe the pose gives her character. Have to sand the heck out of the nose and head in order to make it perfectly smooth too, but I'm trying to focus on... well, lets be real, I'm focusing on everything at once. Truly my desire for a little anthro pony cannot be stopped.

Lil update for cleanness of the model / new link to download.
Looking at starbeams print's leg I realized that I had underestimated the amount of vertices the doll would need, so I went back and slightly adjusted the models so they have... way more. Looking at other models also, I realized that pieces meant for print don't skimp on the vertices, so to speak. I'm used to designing models to minimize the amount of vertices for animation purposes.
I also made the middle of the head and body hollow, which I /really hope/ will not mess up printing things much. I also am not sure if the wings and horn thing will print properly, especiallyy with all the detail.

Anyways, the download for this one is on itch.io. It is completely free, but for some reason I couldn't put the price as 0.00, you don't need to donate at all to download it! It's in blender, as before.

This is so cute! I've downloaded the file and I'll give it a resin test print ASAP to let you know the results

Takara pony thread resurrection? Just a little. I never managed to get her 3D printed (I keep getting distracted) BUT.

Handcrafted clay, yarn, paint and fabric takara pony :3 (I mean she IS a 3D model... in real life)

I should have just made her ball-jointed but instead tried to use "flexible" cosclay for the body and just push the parts in. Unfortunately its not flexible enough and i had some issues with the arms and head peg, which ripped off. I ended up making a felt peg for the head to sit on.

Her legs are a bit wide set but she can sit, she does need to lean on things.
This has been quite an adventure. I'm putting together a video where I show the sculpting of both the 3D models and the clay model.

Cute!

She's absolutely adorable! But if you do get to 3D printing the model, I'd be very curious!

Soooo cute, I haven't managed to try the 3D file yet because I've been super busy but I'm hoping to give it a go asap

She turned out so well!! I <3 her!!

I've actually printed a couple of your pieces, through my resin printer!
Once I get them cleaned up, and painted, I'll post some images of the result
Thank you for your hard work!

I would love to be able to print them too!!! I downloaded the blender files, but don't know what to do after that. I would love to test this as well. I'm still learning how to do everything, but have access to a resin and filament printers

Did you put a video about this on YouTube because I think I saw it come up recommended for me on my homepage! :lolpony:

EDIT: I watched the entirety, it was interesting to see how the photos here came to be in the form of video. Very informative about your process, thank you. Also, such a nice shot at the end of your pony with your handmade dolls. I love that giraffe

Yep lol I finally finished editing the video the other day, thanks for the watch!
I do wish I had the footage of the final 3D sculpt exactly as it shows up but because I redid it so many times I didn't record all of them. It was the same process though, its just. I did it like 5 times.
