So if we take regular ponies we can replace it with a custom? Would the custom have to be the same generation as the ponies we took?
 
Ideally, you'd swap a custom for a custom. BUT... if you plan to put a custom in the box in place of ponies, please make sure that the custom is not worth more than $25 (something very basic) so that there are still regular ponies in the box.

Also, don't take every pony in the box and replace them with only customs. You may only use one custom as a replacement for items taken from the box. If you take out more than what the custom is worth, you must replace it with other ponies or pony items.
 
I think a good rule of thumb is that if you are unsure about what you're taking and putting back being fair, just ask skig what she thinks rather than just doing the swap and passing the box along.

As far as replacing ponies with customs or vice versa, I think most people would appreciate if they were replaced with the same generation, since there are some people who only collect one generation and would not be very happy if the box showed up to them and suddenly only had a generation they don't collect.

It's quite possible that you'll get the box and already have all the ponies in there, but hey, maybe there's a shot at upgrading a pony you have (and I do NOT mean by putting in your same pony of lower quality). However, I'd rather have a shot at an upgrade than getting a box with no G1's at all (since that's what I collect). Mostly just try to use common sense with what you take and put back in, but don't feel bad if you're unsure and need to ask for help or clarification.

lol yes, looks like it! I drive to the Rochester/Greece area every once in a while, possibly close to you! Maybe we've bumped into each other before, lol
 
I wish I could have participated in this. I joined Traveling Swaps a long, long time ago. They were some of the most fun swaps I ever did. I can't wait to see the brag thread with everyone's goodies posted.
