I think why i have such a hard time getting into planning or thinking about me getting married is that in the back of my mind, there is that little monster who tells me how ugly and stupid i will look - like, im just to fat to be a bride and too ugly as well

i know these arent true, but its always there and it makes me so depressed looking for stuff cause i just imagine myself in the dresses in the worst way possible, i gotta stop doin that lol

Wedding dresses are awful LOL I remember dress shopping and it was not a confidence boosting experience! Especially since those sizes already run small! I went out once or twice trying stuff on and just thought it was not fun, the sales people are weird, the dresses are hard to get in and out of, I just was blah about the whole experience but I've also never been a enthusiastic clothes shopper. I don't look forward to shopping or trying a bunch of stuff on, just lemme grab some leggings and a big tee shirt LOL

So, after the lackluster trip to the bridal stores I actually ended up seeing a picture for a dress in a wedding magazine that I loved, and instantly said, "that's the one" (my mom said, looks like bride of Frankenstein LOL). The dress was from some expensive fancy designer I knew I wouldn't be likely to find or afford so I took the picture to a local seamstress shop and got them to make it. Didn't cost nearly as much, didn't have to pay for any alterations cause it was made to flatter my body and I didn't have to deal with the uncomfortable, self conscious dress shop scene. It was even kinda fun and cool to pick out the materials with the seamstress and watch the process of it all come together. It probably wasn't an exact duplicate but I think it was pretty darn close and I was happy with it, especially since it's something you just wear for one day.

I hope to sew my own wedding dress when the time comes! <3~<3

Tehe all this talk reminds me of the wedding dress competition episode in sailor moon!

I’m pretty sure I won’t end up with a traditional dress lol - it’ll probably be something I just find that I like!

I believe we’ve chosen the theme to be “fantasy”

He keeps saying final fantasy and I’m like no, any fantasy lol - final fantasy is way too intricate. But still a good reference

But when I say fantasy, it can range from story books to whatever :)

Just pretty stuff lol - I mean, look at the thing I wanna wear on my head xD lol

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Lightning White Midnight Mauve Dress!!!

It's your wedding, you should theme it as what you love. Another reason I recommend considering a seamstress if you can't find something, they can make you whatever you dream up :)

Ooh I will be watching this thread for sure! I have been engaged for 6+ years and we still don't have a date (waiting for him to finish Engineering school), but I like to daydream!
Also, the most beautiful bride I have ever seen in any wedding was not a thin woman. My friend Allie was stunningly gorgeous in her gown, I cried when I saw her! You always have the cutest outfits and costumes at the cons, I just know you will find the perfect dress that makes you feel beautiful and confident!
I can't wait to see all of the fun plans you make!

I’m the one who suggested wedding ^^ I think I first labeled it as “medieval” but I’m not exactly looking for that, so I went for “fantasy”, maybe I should say whimsical lol

I know that big girls can be pretty too, it just makes me feel bad cause I look at these tiny little women in these beautiful dresses and I just try to imagine it on me and it just dosent set up correctly in my mind on me - BUT with that said. I don’t even know if I’m going to wear a traditional wedding dress

Something will turn up ^^ we don’t even have a date so I’ve got plenty of time to look and plan ❤️ it’ll all turn out perfect in the end!

Just commenting on the head piece have you thought about making one? Finding a headband with antlers that you could paint and then gems and flowers from a craft store might be an option

I am so far from being crafty lol - it would not come out anywhere close like that. I’m so heavy handed that anything that deals with paint or glue or just general DIY, I’m horrid at it lol

You will find the perfect ensemble for the both of you, it's what you do. Take your time and do it your way. I totally wish I had slowed down and took my time and really thought about it, I would go back in time and had a Halloween wedding but I didn't really know what I was doing hehehe. Whatever you decide on and pick out will be beautiful because you're beautiful inside and out. Make it your own.

If you want a fantasy gown I would get quotes from someone who sells at Ren Faires. Most of them will take custom work if you give them your sizes and on the whole I've found the Ren Faire community to be plus size friendly. Plus if they visit your local faire they'll usually let you do pickup there, save on shipping! You might find someone selling similar crowns to the one you like too. Winter is the best time to contact sellers about custom work because it's the off season for most of them.

Most Faires also have wedding venues. You can get some really magical photo ops. Be forewarned that they will also probably be all outside locations and may not allow outside catering. Some will let you have weddings during the faire! Which can be really fun for you and your guests, but you also have to deal with other regular patrons.

I used to work at Scarborough and then for one of the founders so I have too much knowledge of Ren Faires lol. Idk how close you live to Scarby but if you're interested I could probably get you info.

My sisters recommended The Knot to corral all your information, check vendors, etc. We diyed, borrowed, and thrifted a lot of stuff for her and our other sister's wedding. That's definitely the way to go if you wanna stay in budget. A lot of diys are pretty simple; we even set my dad and brother to task and neither of them are particularly crafty lol. We had the aunts cater my baby sis's wedding potluck style and my middle sis had the sides catered and her new in-laws brought the meats.

I could probably infodump more but I'll leave it at that ^^;

Thank you for all this information!

were most likely not going to even have a wedding this year cause of life, but i just though maybe i could get myself more excited about it lol

in high school, we had to plan our wedding and i absolutely hated it cause i was the fattest girl in class and i just did not have a fun time. I couldnt even find a decent dress cause we couldnt just pick one, we had to pick things that were true to size and junk like that

it was overall just a really terrible experience and i did just enough to pass with a c, i really hated the class cause it made me so self conscious, i felt fat and ugly through the whole thing

SO

im tryin to get myself hyped lol
