What are your collecting goals?

I was just curious what others out there have as a goal? Or do you not really think of it as a goal you just browse and look for ponies that catch your eye? Being one of those goal oriented people, I keep setting goals, like I still live in the hope of maybe completing a U.S. G1 collection... except that the babies and sea ponies don't interest me as much as some of the internationals so I have the sinking feeling I never will achieve that! :) If I won the lotto sure hehe. Then I have this wish to own all the G3's ever made, but again, I'm not rich so I don't know if I can complete that either. At least they came out with G4's now so I have a little more hope :)
Does anyone out there boast owning an entire anything? If so you'll have to direct me to some pics!
 
ATM my goal is, to collect... All uk and us adult ponies, not including variants. I buy some internationals that I like, eg french and Italian as I like the colours.

My major goal is to buy mib ponies, it's an expensive goal though, and will take ages!

Also I want some plateaus with there boxes, only got two so far though.

It's gunn a take ages, but that's what my pony goal is!
 
As for the G1's I'm out to recreate my original herd from childhood.
And for G3's my main goal is to collect all the ponies that are winter related.
But currently I'm focusing on my sad tiny little G2 collection.

I have a complete US G1 collection (basic style ponies, not all of the Petites & Dream Beauties), and all but 1 from the G1 UK/Europe collection (and all of the Dutch & Indian G1's, too). Most of my collection is pictured here:

...some pics are missing. I'm working on updating everything, but it's a big task & I don't have a lot of free time.

As far as goals... I have a small list of my
"Most Wanted" ponies that I'm hoping to get this year. I also buy ponies that I don't have when I see them available for a reasonable price, too.

I've been collecting since '97, so keep in mind that it takes time to complete sets & meet goals. It's not about winning the lottery, just keeping an eye out for good deals, or saving up for something special. ;)
 
If im honest I dont really think I have a gol as to collecting my ponies, I just go with what im thinking at the time. I'm a big sea pony collector and seeing ive got tones Ive decided im going to take a breather on them and concentrate on other ponies but I buy customs, either made for me by me I just get ideas in my head. Ideally id like all the uk ponies and us ponies then go further afield. Talking years and years but will see how it goes because im loving the g4s and I never really got into the g3s which leaves me well behind cos I only have like 40 of the g3s.
 
my goal is to finish the sets I already have started.. in my g1 and g3 collections like the TEs, WW,SW, TAF, SS and the rainbows... gah!
 
All the US G1 Ponies and UK Variantions.
All the US G2 Ponies + McDonalds (UK & Int'l)
All the US G3 Ponies + int'l & McDonalds of all kinds :)
All the US G3.5 Ponies + McDonalds
All the US G4 Ponies
 
My goal is to own at least one pony from every generation. I like my goals to at least start off small.

My pony collecting goal is to collect all the G1s and G3s (MIB) that I like. I do not want every pony--I don't have enough space for all.

So if I buy a lot and get a pony I don't really like, I sell it to make money for a pony I really like.

I also decided to only buy UK & German ponies, and no other international ponies (well I would make an exception for a baby greek pony).

I also do not buy accesories or playsets. If I found a G1 playset while shopping, I might buy it, but not off ebay or msg boards. The only accessories I have are for my childhood G1s. Also, I do not want any G3 playsets.
 
I don't really have any particular goals. I would say at one point I'd like to have the entire G1 US collection but there's enough ponies I don't love in the US collection that I doubt I'd ever do that. I think my goal will be to continue collecting whichever ponies I like and which catch my eye.

Oh wait! I thought of a goal. I want to own every seapony and every baby in the ember pose :D
 
I have a small collection from when I was a kid. I'm keeping those. My original goal used to be to collect every G3 -- but then I realized I really didn't appreciate every G3, so I stopped getting every single one and focused on the ones I really, really liked. That's my new goal. To just collect the ones I like the most. It's more affordable that way, and I don't have a big place to store a huge collection. When I have too many ponies, I feel weighted down by them -- as much as I do love them.

That's interesting, because I've noticed that same feeling. So then I get into a "let's sort them out and only keep the ones I really like" mode. Problem is, in almost all cases, I've only purchased ponies I really like, including the ones that reside in boxes "until we get a pony room" (harhar). :-( Other problem is, my shelves are full of books, which are also pared down to only the ones I know I will re-read, haven't read yet, and/or use for reference. There are days when I look at the books, look at the ponies, decide "one of you has to go" and.... then can't do it.

Based on that, my goal is therefore to find a new system so that weighed down (too much stuff) feeling gets gone. Which also means until that happens, to cut way back on purchases.

Ouch.
 
Yeah that's the other thing, were to put them! It can be a nightmare finding room, and I can't stand when things are not out and in boxes!

Sometimes I think I should stop collecting, as enough is enough, with 600+ ponies but I always want more! I have downsized my collection by getting rid of about 200 duplicates....

Also my star catcher army has hit 20! It's a bit insane when there taking up one shelf on there own....

My other goal is.... Complete mib g3 collection, not including playlets and baby's
 
Id love to have a complete US collection. Ive been slowly working on it. I dont have many mail orders though yet. I also dont really like sea ponies or dream beauties and petites ponies. I also love to have the uk internationals too someday.
 
My collecting goal is to not let my collection get out of hand. :blush: I've probably cut my collection in half size wise since I can't handle all of them anymore, so I've gotten a lot more selective.

I go after ponies mainly whose symbols fit a particular theme. Like I'm trying to do nursery rhymes right now.

I also would love to have every pony that was ever made in a sitting down pose. They're usually my one exception to collecting internationals.

Course I've fallen for some baby G2s unfortunately now too. So I'm hoping I can restrain myself.

I completely relate to you. I'm at that stage with nearly all of my possessions right now. It's very hard, especially with stuff that you have an attachment to...but I'm slowly working on and it starting to feel better. I just keep reminding myself it's okay to collect, but I'm much more strict with newer purchases than I used to be. I have to think about new things long and hard before I buy. It gets easier as time goes on! :)
 
I'm not collecting right now, but when I do get back into it I have a list of particular ponies I really like and would like to complete that. It's pretty much just based on which ponies I like the look of and it changes quite a lot! I can't see myself ever wanting to collect beyond that :)
