Darn, I should've voted for G1 AND G4... Maybe G2 as well.

G1 is classic, and toy-wise, my favorite. I love all the ideas and gimmicks they had floating around, and I'm very much a sucker for the 80's-ness of it all. I was too young (kind of) to have grown up with it, though.

G2... I loved the slenderer design for the ponies (though I'm still not crazy over one of their poses), and it was the first generation I could've gotten into. I'm still peeved at the fact they didn't get at least a special or something. Comparing the MLP franchise to Transformers, it's also a great case study to show what happens when you drop a popular trademark and try to bring it back before it's nostalgic (G2 MLP), as opposed to keeping it going by innovating (Beast Era Transformers).

G4 wins many points for the show, but toy-wise it's still a bit green for me to judge. The toys are cute (anyone I show my G4s to goes absolutely gaga for them over the others), but the lack of synchrony between the show and toyline bothers me. I'm glad Hasbro is lessening that, though, so only time will tell.
 
When it come to toys, G1 all the way. I've never owned one (shame!), but I really like their varying designs. Plus, I'm an oldie at heart ;)

Show-wise, G4. It has a nice variety of characters, enjoyable plots, and an interesting style. I can't comment on the previous MLP series, as I've never seen them. I like the G4 toys as well, though their...I don't know, a bit bland compared to G1. I guess that happens with such a long-running toyline :/ It doesn't help that more than half of the toys haven't appeared in the show.
 
If I'm to be completely honest with myself, I can't decide! I love them all equally. It really depends on how I feel from moment to moment.

There was a time when I would have picked all but G2, but now G2 has risen to the level of complete equality to me. There was a time when I would have had a hard time with G3 because there are three distinct flavours of G3 (I call A:2003 A Charming Birthday - 2007 Positively Pink/high-quality pretty ponies, B:2008 Meet the Ponies webisodes/"coathanger" put-on-my-big-rubber-dress ponies, and C:2009 Twinkle Wish Adveture/large headed legs fatter than torso ponies). I learned to love each one eventually. It's always hard for me because the beginning of one has always meant the end of the previous one, and each in my mind has earned a memorial. I don't mean just G3, but all generations.

Sometimes I wonder if my music player reads what I type and decides to play enabling/appropriate music. I have it on random, and it just started playing a sweet tune evoking fond memories.
 
I chose G4. I'm pretty sure I had some of the other generations when I was little but I just remember. All I know is I had a lot of My Little Pony toys. I think out of all of them G4 is my favorite though. A lot of people like G1 but I'm just not a fan of them. Also I haven't seen any of the other generations in stores anywhere so I'm assuming they aren't sold anymore? I just now started collecting again a few months ago.

yeah you can only get g4s now :) someplaces they might have some g3s left, but they are, as far as i know, not made anymore.

That's right. When they make changes to their design, they altogether stop making the old ones. Which creates a need for websites like this one!
 
Wonder if the ComiCon/MLP Fair ponies will be G4 too eventually.

Thanks for the information! I was at Kmart the day before yesterday and only saw G4. Our walmart barely has any MLP stuff and rarely ever restock so I'm almost certain they don't have any left.
 
G1. I really fell out of the pony loop not long after the release of the G3s. When did G4 officially start? I have noticed ponies now look a lot more anime-like.

I've been asked to be on an MLP panel at a con. I'm going to be the hipster "I was into ponies before this whole "brony" thing started." person. :) I've never even watched an episode of Freindship is Magic!
 
G1ssssssss.all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........if i had to choose another.....then it would be G4s.......lol....i just can't resist Big Macintosh=p
 
I love them all, but G1's are my favorite. :)
 
Hands down, G1!

I do like all of the other generations, but G1 will ALWAYS hold that most special spot in my heart. It had the best toys, with the most diversity, and while the stories were corny, silly, and fun, they chose some fantastic animation studios to animate the series, especially the one they used for the intro and Rescue at Midnight Castle!

Reading what you said made me realize exactly why I love the G1s so much, despite having only owned G4s. G1 has the most diversity, both namewise and designwise. Having a show that features pretty much all of the ponies helps too :p

G1! But G2 have a soft spot in my heart...and G3s were the reason I started collecting again...I can't pick just one! :O
