What silly thing made you realize you're an adult?

(This goes without saying, but keep it G-rated, folks. ;) )

I bought a new mattress today and I'm so stupidly excited. My lower back has been bothering me for a couple years now despite exercises, better posture, and all that jazz, so I finally caved and spent the money. It should be here by next week.

Not real happy about the price of course, but if it keeps me from throwing my back out - cool beans! Never thought I'd be happy spending my money on something so boring but hey, here we are. :lolpony:

Getting up at 4-6am every morning without an alarm. I’m so not a morning person, and I’m not even all that ‘adult’ in my mind’s eye or self awareness. So, yes, getting up before my alarm to let my dog out and get the kiddo ready for school, said ‘adult’ with a quant blinking neon sign.

Honestly... the first time I ever felt truly old is when I was in college and i mentioned Freddie Prinze Jr. to a teenager (we had both adults and teens at my college) and they had not a clue who it was. I was shocked!!! They then proceeded to have no clue who Sarah Michelle Gellar was. Ive never felt so decrepit in all my lifeeee!

The day I moved in with my best friend and we got our first rent owed notice

Realizing I've been out of school for along time, also going to get feed by myself.

The time I talked to some kids about video games and they had no idea who sonic the hedgehog was and had never heard of a sega genesis. Made me realize I was the old person with archaic knowledge now lol

I was probably 20-21 and it'd been a few years since a major Sonic release. Wild how quickly stuff drops out of common knowledge with kids, I'm glad they're still making Sonic stuff for them to enjoy :happyhearts:

I think we continually hit milestones that briefly remind us of our age. I also bought a new mattress this year. It's actually the first one I bought brand new. 100% would recommend over suffering aches and pains from an old crappy mattress and definitely made me childish for holding out so long ^^;

Haha thats so true!! I worked really hard on commissions last year to be able to afford a carpet steamer and I was so thrilled!

Then earlier this week there were some guys getting breakfast next to us at a diner and they were acting like total goofs, and like 6 foot tall. Im 5'2 so when i was tryina walk through their crowd i felt sooo tinnny. Then wilst I was amidst their tallness one just goofy yelled "Im twEntY sEvEn yEaRs OlD" I was stunned to realize I was older than them  We always just have reminders every now and then.

for me, it takes just one tiktok comment section to realize i haven't stepped foot inside my high school in almost three years. i don't envy them and i feel much less bad than i used to about not understanding what they're talking about on that app honestly

literally just now. There’s a mentoring program for local kids at my college and suddenly I’m in charge of booking my own car multiple times a week and making sure this elementary schooler I just met has a car seat

Wait, I'm an adult? When did that happen? ;)

No seriously, I was an old soul. I was 8 years old the first time I had to stay a week in the Children's Hospital. I grew up fast in the taking-care-of-myself department.

This ^^ I haven’t had to go to school in a building since I was 9!

I have a large vocabulary because… reading! I love books! It’s surprising to me how many words have been left behind.

I’m getting a new vacuum for Christmas! (Early because my last one, which I then thought was the best birthday present ever, is over 8 years old and I can’t get new filters!) *irrationally happy to be able to clean*
department.
Sad face @Daintress my mother and older sister grew up young due to taking care of younger siblings… but hospital?! <hugs>

@Tak don't be sad! That hospital saved my life. And enough of my hearing to let me live normally with hearing aids. I've got a lot to be grateful for on that topic!
I’m certainly glad you’re here to be a pony friend! :rainbow:
Who says I've realized it? Lollll
In some ways… I never will. ;)
Talking to a (high school age) coworker and he informed me he was 2 when I started working there.
This is me explaining how we didn’t have an answering machine growing up then having to explain what an answering machine was!
