What's YOUR pony story?

Hey there everyone! Now, I can't help but be curious. What's your pony story? How did you get into ponies? What triggered you and caused you to become a collector? Tell meeeeeee! :)

Here's my pony story, if anyone's interested!
I'm a latecomer into the pony fandom. I started off with G3's. My first ever pony was Rainbow Flash with super long hair. From then on, I fell in love! I accumulated about 24 ponies and 2 playsets. My favorited were Rainbow Flash and Hidden Treasure-so pretty and girly!

After 4th grade, I stopped getting new ponies, but still played with and loved my old ones. I kept them in good condition, moreso than my beloved barbies!
After 5th grade, however, I kept all my ponies in my closet, and never really thought about them too much...

Until the end of last year, years after my elementary school years, when I discovered MLP FiM. Being an artistic person, a savvy internet user, and a lover of cartoons and girly things, I watched the show and fell in love with ponies all over again. Before I knew it, I was at Target buying myself a little Rarity. I wished I had more ponies-then realized I did and brought out all my old ponies!
After reading SO MUCH MORE about ponies and cleaning them than I could ever need to on the internet, I fixed up all my old G3's. :)

From then I realized that I wanted more, more, more! I quickly had the Mane 6, and started getting interested in G1's after much internet searching. Over the summer I began collecting g1's and a few g3's, as well as the new G4's. Heck, I had a lot of spare money I wasnt spending or saving-why not spend some?

I now have about 60 ponies and constantly searching for more...I have been bitten hard by the collector's bug!

So guys, what's YOUR story? :)

I got into ponies when I was 4 or 5. I got SS Buttons at the mall and fell in love with her.

I got back in to ponies when I met Aadra and we realized we both had a lot of them! We looked through our collections last week and realized that between the 2 of us we're missing only 3 US G1 ponies... and I'm working on getting one of them right now!

WOW! That's an IMPRESSIVE collection! That's so great that you found someone interested in ponies as well. Best of luck completing the collection! :)

I also got into ponies when i was really young. Prolly around 3 or 4 years old. I had been adopted my by grandparents shortly after i was born and my grandma was a bargain shopper, always stopping at thrift stores and garage sales.

Since i was born in 88 my childhood collection was mainly all second hand but i didnt care. Im not sure why but ever since i was little i loved horses so it started with breyers and expanded majorly into mlps and grand champions. I still love horses to this day.

I was born in '82, which is the year that MLPs first showed up. I got my first one for Christmas when I was 3 or 4, and she was a SS Lofty. She was apparently the coolest thing in the entire world; I took her everywhere and, when I got the Baby Crumpet/purse set, I used the purse to carry her around. I actually have vivid memories of playing with her. I remembered her name after all of these years.

My interest in MLP was renewed when someone turned me on to FiM.

I am old. So when I had ponies...I had the origional 80s ponies as a child.
In 1999 I was bored and I was looking on ebay and I typed in Unicorn. The second auction to pop up was a Glory. I was floored. Those were my old toys! So I typed in My Little Pony and a flood of auctions appeared (mind you..a flood was about 75 auctions back in 1999). I thought people then were crazy for spending 75 dollars on a Rapunzel (kick me)! The first one I bought was MainSail and so it began!

in 1990 when i was a year old i got my first pony, uk Daffodil and from there on i got more and more :) i always loved horses so i had hundreds and hundreds of horse figures. when my other friends got 'too old' for the ponies i got all of theirs (win XD) and i had them in my room until i was 14 when we moved so i had them at my grandfathers attic. when i moved back to his and got a visa card i found ebay...and i thought 'hey i can buy a pony or two i wanted when i was a kid' and now i am 22 and still buying  silly ponies <3

Aww, that's great! I would have liked having secondhands as a child too. :) Mlp actually made me start liking horses more than I used to!

That's so cute! I know how it feels to get attached to one toy. :) I can tell you still adore her, hehehe!

That sounds awesome! :) And LOL, Rapunzel for 75 sounds like a ridiculously great deal now, huh? Oh Rapunzel, why must you cost so very much?

Nice! :) That pony must mean a lot to you now! She looks like she's in real nice condition, besides the missing tail. But sometimes the flaws endear you to them more!

gosh, these silly ponies drive me to spend so much money....!

I've only had one or two ponies in my childhood [one pink g1 baby fakie and g2 mcd unicorn,WHICH MY GRANDMA FINALLY FOUND,YAY!!!^^],and nearly completely forgotten about them over years. But one day my sister brought her friends Lanard fakies home to draw them.I saw them and...remembered.I remembered how much I liked that mcd pony [fakie is long-lost...I guess I was 10 when she was already missing,so I don't remember her well],I always played with her, styled her hair and putted her in the box after playing.Next week I've seen absolutely gorgeous g3 fakie [I posted about her on arena],and my collection keep growing from that moment.
P.S.:stupid space button keeps bugging><

I'm like Whippit, I had ponies growing up in the 80's. I loved horses as a kid and had around 50 or so MLP (which I still have). When I became a teenager the ponies were packed away but I could never bring myself to get rid of them. I always loved them and now they held such wonderful memories. Around '98 was when I think we got our first computer and I remember sitting there with my dial up internet cruising around this thing called eBay. I decided to go ahead and search for MLP, my heart leaped when I saw all the auctions (as Whippit said, it was maybe 70-80 pages) I immediately purchased a Strawberry Surprise. I was amazed to see so many ponies I had never seen before. Then I learned about the collector guide and bought one of those. I remember going through the pages for the first time and marking off the ones I had and that was when my interest was really sparked again. The ponies came back out of their boxes and displayed in my room and from then on I think eBay has probably pocketed about 10-15% of my yearly salary. It used to be easier though, in the 90's to find ponies at yard sales and thrift stores, now your lucky to come across a baity Sundance for 20.00 at your flea market ;)

yep :) i understood she would be very special to me sometime, so i never played much with her when i got other ponies :)

so much fun to read peoples stories!

I, like many others here, am a child of the 80s. I got my first pony in 1982. I was 5. My dad worked right next to a Montgomery Ward store, and he'd bring me home a little toy or something on pay day. My very first pony was Butterscotch, and my dad said that I had NEVER loved a toy like I loved that pony! Turns out, it's still true to this day. :)

So, every pay day, dad would bring home another pony. I could not WAIT to see what he brought! Then, on holidays, we'd get the buildings. My mom and dad used to play with me, on the floor, giving the ponies back-stories and personalities. Man, my parents are awesome, aren't they?

I packed my ponies away and gave them to my cousin to play with...she's about 6 years younger than I am. She's a good kid, and I knew that she'd take care of them. It was always with the understanding that I would come back for them when she was done playing with them. At the time, I probably had at least 300 ponies, plus their buildings.

Sadly, my cousin's house burned down. Nobody was hurt, but the ponies were gone. I kept a few of my favorites, but my herd was no more.

I think it was around 1998 when my mom and I went to a flea market. We found this one booth, and in a bin on the ground, there were probably 50 G1 MLPs. I simply fell to my knees. My mom and I sat there for an hour, sorting through, laughing at memories, and just having a blast. The guy gave us a ridiculous deal, and we took them home. We scrubbed them, did their hair, and generally bonded over ponies.

I went on the internet, and became involved with the TP around that time...boy, things have changed! What hasn't changed is that my mom and I both still collect, and the ponies still manage to bring that same smile to our faces. My Little Ponies are just the best. <3

I'm a pony girl from way back, I'm a 80's baby! I only had a few but I loved them. I'm also a Military Brat, eventually only two made it into my adulthood with me. BBE Baby Heartthrob and Teeney Tiny Tabby. When FiM started up I introduced my 5 year old to them and bought her some Ponyville ponies. This past August we were up north visiting my parents and she found Heart and Tabby. It had been so long I couldn't remember Tabby's name (her cutie mark gives no clue). Boo insisted on knowing her name so that sent me online and eventually here. I lurked for a bit, then decided to join and get "my" ponies back.

My first pony was My Pretty Pony. I learned how to braid hair on her. Then I received ponies for Christmas in '82. I loved that I could carry these ponies other places unlike the bigger version. I got ponies over the years, and stole my sisters' ponies when they outgrew them. Then sadly they were all sold at a yard sale.

When I discovered ebay, I decided I wanted to get back the ponies I had as a kid. Then it was I wanted to get the ones my sisters had as kids. Then it was I wanted to get the ones I always wanted but never got. Then it was, "oh that one is so pretty". Then (and now) I got out of control. lol

I was born in 1990 so by the time I was old enough for toys like ponies, they weren't being sold in stores anymore. Nevertheless, I had a ton of G1s that my mom bought for me second hand. I loved them so much! I was always making sure their hair was brushed, and all the ones that were in nice condition, I tried to keep that way. My mom became friends with a woman who I guess collected/resold old toys, and we would go to her house now and then...she always had a table full of ponies and I would get to pick a few. Man that was always great. Her ponies were always clean and beautiful. (You know, now that I think of it, there are only two ponies I remember definitely getting from her...but I know there were more than that).

Anyway, 1997 rolled around and I was only 7, so I was still totally into my toys. I saw the new ponies in stores and loved them! I ended up with most of the G2s released in the US.

And then ponies were gone. I think there were only a couple years between me packing my ponies away because I was 'too old' for them, and G3 coming out. I saw the first ones in Wal Mart and thought "they're back...again! Cool!" I didn't buy any but I couldn't stop thinking about them. A couple days later my mom was going to Wal Mart again (I was staying home) and I instructed her to bring home the two-pack with the orange one and yellow one - Sparkleworks and Butterscotch. I just wanted them for nostalgia...and that was it. For a while it was "just one more".

So I started looking for more info on ponies, and came upon some message boards dedicated to MLP. I joined a few (stuck with MLP Arena mostly, only joined here recently) and realized that I was already a collector. I dug out all my old ponies and that's it. I love my ponies. ♥

I am totally heading down the same path!!

I'm an old pony fan. I had just moved from one state to another and I lost all my friends. Since I liked horses like most little girls, my mother spotted some pony toys and got me a couple to console me. I distinctly remember Cotton Candy cause she went with me everywhere.

She was followed by Peachy and the pretty parlor, then we mail ordered Lucky and pink baby Ember with purple hair. After that, when ever I brought home As on my report card, I got a pony per A. It was great motivation for good grades. I had a lot of ponies, and I'd meet up with friends who had them to create mega herds!

Once I left home, my mother held onto my ponies and gave them back to me just a couple years ago. I was so thrilled to have them back. Then I moved overseas and they didn't make it. I even called my husband (who was in a different country at the time) in a panic to tell him my ponies were gone. Thankfully he was very supportive.

Then I happened across eBay and there they were: many, many ponies. Now I have boxes of ponies waiting their turn to be molested, I mean cleaned and styled. Once that's done, on to making up stories for them!
