I have several SS I would love to have deflocked but I have never done it and am kinda scared to try.

How much do some of you charge to deflock?

Is it really as hard as it seems? It is kinda daunting to look at their fur and think of taking it off!

Thanks everyone!

ps. hope I posted this in the right place. If not sorry and please move where it belongs.

I have done it, though I'm not an expert. It's really wasn't that hard to do. Just put in a good movie and get yourself a big bottle of acetone and lots of cotton balls and Q-tips. My only problem has been getting the fuzz off the cheeks with out messing up the blush paints and the eyes with out messing up the "lashes". I'm sure practice makes perfect and you can always touch up the painted parts. You should try it on a really manky pony, but I'm sure someone here would also do it for you, I however don't think I've done enough to do anyone elses

I've done it before. I use Jasco, so I don't take off the symbols/eyes/blush. Just go to Home Depo or Lowe's and get some Jasco, slather it on the pony, and start wiping off the flocking. It's really easy that way, and there's no chance of messing up the symbols. :)

Oh! Make sure you don't get the pure liquid Jasco. It should be more of a gel consistency.

Uni wrote a tutorial for us, it can be found here:

My Little Pony Trading Post: Deflocking Tutorial by Unicornucopia

Ive never been brave enough to try deflocking myself.... hehe

That's the thing!! I'm not brave enough either yet! I have check out the tutorial. Actually a while ago, which got me thinking. I just haven't taken that next step. Seems ok to do, but I wanted to get 1st hand info and see if anyone does them and how much they would charge too.

i tried to with a very deflocked looking wind whistler. it was pretty tricky. i didn't do it the way everyone else does or how the tutorial shows. instead i think i washed and scrubbed her in the sink with soap. then i took a razor and scrapped the flocking off or as much as i could. took a tooth brush with nail polish remover on it and brushed the areas with glue and flocking. she does look nicer, but not as nice as the nss wind whistler.

Ive tried acetone, soaking it in there and then rubbing the flocking off. I have tried just using oxy-clean and hot water and scrubbing with a toothbrush. However, the best method I have tried so far with not as many harsh chemicals. Was just using an S.O.S pads, some heavy duty rubber gloves, and extremely hot water. The flocking came off like magic. I think i went through 4 S.O.S pads so buy a big box. :)

I am thinking of getting some more bait ss ponies to deflock...I did one before, it was pretty easy with the acetone. I followed Uni's instructions, it is a great tutorial :)

I've done it several times now with Goof Off and an exacto knife, which is not for the faint of heart. :) It does get easier once you've practiced a few times, so I'd really think about trying on a bait SS to get the hang of it.

I would also be scared to death to take these as commission work -- I don't mind if I goof and have to touch up a symbol on ponies I paid for, but for someone else...no way.

I have had a Northstar waiting to be deflocked for a while. She was a gift as part of a swap. I have been too nervous to try, but I think I am going to try that Jasco stuff. It sounds the easiest, and if I don't have to worry about her blush or symbols, then it makes me more willing to try. :)

Wear gloves and do it in a well-ventilated area, preferrably outside, or in the garage if the weather is too cold.

I would give super-duper hot water deflocking a try, if I chose to attempt it again. quote]

I've nearly finished deflocking my Ribbon and I mainly used hot water . . although she was a great candidate for deflocking as it was coming off her if you ran your fingers over her and she had HUGE bald areas (which was exactly why I bought her :) )!!!!

I just stuck her under the hot water tap and scrubbed her with a stiff nail brush and most of it just came off. I'm just finishing up the last of it with some nail polish remover and she look great although I don't think the method I used would have been as effective on a pony with hard to remove glue or thicker flocking a stronger product would be needed then I would think . . . I'm trying to finish off Hippity Hop now (who looks so lovely deflocked!) but I still have residue glue on her which is really spooiling her I'll give some of these other ideas a go and see if I can finish her off too.

I also found as long as you only have a little nail polish remover on a cotton bud and are quick you can even do around they eyes and blush without removing it :D

I have deflocked several SS's successfully with just Accetone. It's a very tedious task but totally worth it! Twilight looks so much prettier underneath all that fuzz.

i have comissioned someone to deflock mine :) like you, im not brave enough
I just posted "deflock comission" in the want to buy thread

she is charging $12 per pony. but i am doing a trade to make up for some of the cost. the shipping is a hassle tho since you have to pay for it twice.
If you do a comission i would say do the ones you realllly want deflocked.. it aint cheap!
But i did see a de-flock ribbon on ebay sell for $40!!!
but then there was a majic star deflock who never got a bid and it started at $9

i think the prettiest ones deflocked are
ribbon, skipity-doo, twist, and twilight
soooo purty!!:486:

hmm $40? maybe I should try to find mine a new home she only cost me $2 so that would be a nice little profit hehehe.

Nah I couldn't part with her she's too pretty now - Ribbon deflocked is IMO one of the most stunning ponies her colours are just gorgeous!!!!

I agree. ribbon is beautiful from the pics I've seen. I would love to have a Twilight deflocked, but my Twilight has way to much fur to even try :hide:. I have a cupcake and a heart throb that are pretty well good for only deflock. Maybe I'll start there. Anybody know how to smooth their hair out? I am scared to do anything to hurt the ones that have good flocking (Twilight, NorthStar, Best Wishes) and while I have been collecting ponies for awhile, I have yet to experiment with hair care and such. Some need a good bath too. I really want to try.
