I agree, they’re born with wings so they should be able to fly. It should be in their DNA. Instincts. They have wings for a reason
Good to see your ponies will teach them how it’s done :tongue:

To be fair, if you actually pay mind to anatomy and proportion, and all of the specific things birds have that actually enable them to fly, it totally makes sense that the real reason MLP pegasus ponies can fly is because of magic. Their bodies are far larger and heavier than their wings would realistically be able to carry, birds and things often have small bodies, light bones, and are covered in feathers specifically for the purpose of enabling them to fly and fly well.

I've had a little fun with thought experiments once with a former friend of mine who was really into wings, and for a horse to fly there would need to be a lot of modification, including some really, really massive wings. If I remember correctly the conclusion he came to had each wing like three times the size of the horse at least.

But I still greatly enjoy this post haha. I did find it interesting that they could glide but not fly though, so within canon, rather than something akin to reality, I still agree with this sentiment.

I was going to say something along the same lines. They don't have the room for the musculature necessary to lift all that weight. lol it is nice to dream though. Also, to all those who have never seen a horse being born, there’s no way they could come out with an existing horn.

aaahhhhh!!!! No! All the ponies are are just perfect and magical! ;)

@Glistening Rainlight and @Tak

Let me clarify, ponies needing "Friendship Magic" to fly is really stupid. Just as stupid, as a picture that magically appeared on your hip the moment you found your destiny/career/whatever.

Friendship magic was never needed before. Otherwise G3 pegasus wouldn't have been able to fly, considering they were separated from the other species.

Since the flutter ponies were also secluded from the rest of Dream Valley for who knows how long, they would be similarly inconvenienced. Except they weren't.

Flying ponies have wings and instincts, they can fly just fine.

Penguins have wings but are land bound. ;p

Ostrich and emu, too.

I think ponies fly because they are intrinsically magical. “Friendship magic” is not my kind of magical unfortunately, although, some pony people are putting that to the test! ;)

They adapted to the water. Big difference between real world evolution and a cruddy plot point that says you gotta be friends with every species, or you can't fly.
