So full confession, this is not my first post. I'd been meaning to follow the rules and post one of these when I first signed up, but I had gotten distracted by the restoration posts about sunfading and, well to be totally honest, I forgot what I was doing.

I'm Angela (she/her), and I'm mainly here to trade and learn about restoration and custom techniques, but also to enjoy the nostalgia. I may eventually sell custom ponies, provided there is interest. I am an illustrator, craftswoman, fiction-writer, and sewist. If it's a craft that can be done, I have probably dabbled in it (yarn and needlework is the exception). My current focuses are epoxy resin casting, and most recently toy customizing. In short, if I'm not making something at any given time it's probably a bad sign for my mental health.

I'm a terribly wordy sort and prone to rambling, but perhaps I'll just cover my personal history with My Little Pony. Maybe someone will find this interesting, or even relate.

I've never really been part of the pony community as such. Despite G1 MLP being arguably my entire life from ages three to seven, they sort of fell into the "I grew out of that" corner of my brain for years. We had a big move when I was nine, and because I hadn't been paying much attention to them for a year or so, I declared that I was ready to give away my ENTIRE collection of 'little kid' toys -- the I-don't-even-know-how-many Care Bear figurines and I think somewhere around 40-50 My Little Ponies, (including some that go for hundreds now) -- all just gone. My mother was understandably surprised and I distinctly recall her asking "are you sure" half a dozen times. She tried to convince me to keep some faves; she had never been as prone to attach sentiment to things as I am now, but somehow she knew. In the end I insisted, and she respected my autonomy to make the decision. It took three decades and the itchings of a midlife crisis to make me deeply regret it but here I am!

I have a list of a few I'm planning to restore as-is, having strong memories of them. TAF Sugarberry and Baby Cotton Candy in particular are very significant to me. The rest I get I am customizing with botanical and nature themes. Combining my passions of the natural world, art, and creation with my most treasured part of my childhood is proving to be one of the most fulfilling and meaningful things I have done in a while, and I hope my flighty ADHD brain can be bothered to stick with this one for some time yet.

Hey there!

Welcome in! I hope you enjoy your stay!

Hiya! and welcome!
I'm Mintyeon the resident mint fanatic and lovable cinnamoroll of the trading post!

Hehe! A fellow crafter!
My mediums are crochet and sewing!
The only thing stopping me from sinking my teeth into the sculpting, resin, 3D printing, and doll customizing is my sore lack of funds!
But oh ho ho! the crafty things I could do with a little bit of extra cash!

I look forward to chatting with you and hope you enjoy your stay here!

I feel the lack of funds! Funds, and also space. My studio is literally about to explode. It’s not a small room, either, I just can never stop launching myself headfirst into new endeavors and flailing around with how to juggle the shrinking useable space.

I have several friends who crochet! It really seems to be overtaking knitting in popularity in recent years. Do you do any amigurumi? It just occurred to me one could make little buddies for their ponies doing that… :happyhearts:

Yes, I do! I've been crocheting For about 11 years now! (Before it was trendy lol!) Amigarumi is my favorite!
I also love how many people are trying out crochet for the first time and loving it!!!

I love making pony costumes as well!
Just look at my tiny flounder friend!!! I can't stand how cute he is!!!

This is a (good version) spinel doll from Stevan universe that I had been commissioned to make for @darklys!
She turned out so cute! Just look at those tiny hands!
Totally worth the three days of practice to make them that small!!!

Also totally feel you on the space issue!
I share a room and I do most of my crafting on my great-grandmother's fold-out sewing machine desk that I keep at the end of my bed! Lol!

Oh, do you also do cosplay!?!
I'd love to cosplay at some point!
People on YouTube are getting crazy good at making the super complicated Genshein cosplays!
It's just so cool!!!
The resin gems are by far my favorite!!!
Really want to start Genshein but don't have a console or a powerful enough phone to play it!

Btw There are groups for just about everything here in my favorite area of the post "friends discussion!"
There are several threads dedicated to crochet, sewing, gaming and cosplay! Feel free to check them out! \.>~<./

Sorry for the extra long post!
I'm super chatty and passionate about a lot of things!

Edit #7 lol: Also just noticed the flighty add brain part! Hello, fellow ADHD brain! Lol!

(Sorry for a super-late response I've been busy and also out of town for a couple days.)

I cannot deal with that Flounder it's too cute! Your detail is excellent. I legitimately would not have the patience for those hands. Yarn crafting has just never pulled me in, even all the times I considered learning when I worked in craft stores all through college. I still love seeing what others make though!

Totally empathize with the lack of a permanent sewing area. My studio was originally focused around sewing, actually, and as I've had more reliable income (not GOOD income but at least something I can plan for lol) I've been able to pick up new trades that have forced me to completely rearrange my space and now sewing clothes for my custom Monster High folks is kind of a pain. Resin casting just takes up SO MUCH SPACE.

Anyway I will probably spend more time exploring the forum as the weather gets worse. Right now I'm sort of scrambling to do things with the last month or so of useable weather in regards to proper conditions for spraying MSC. I probably won't be able to do any customizing until May~June after that. :/

I forgot to do one too, to be honest... I still owe one, so I guess, I better get to drafing it:lolpony:
LOL Okay I feel a little better then. It's easy to get distracted here!

Welcome to the TP! We love crafty people here!
Thank you~! I love your little plush guys btw they're so cute and fun! (Also I may be poking you about your G1 pony sales soon.... lol)

I had not even thought far enough ahead for spraying MSC.. hmm. I could probably use the chem hood in my lab and nobody would even notice. You might be able to make a spray box with exhaust to a window. Maybe using an old shop vac, flexible dryer hose, foil tape, and a box. There's lots of guides for people that have printers, solder, lasers, etc inside and need to vent fumes out a window.

I have too many projects, too. Supplies kind of get strung through the house because I have a little bit of everything and wander.

Some crocheting is easy enough. Granny square is simple and fast. But despite having all the supplies I never get around to doing anything with the yarn, either.

Are any of your illustrations or written works published?

Howdy fellow, nostalgic, wordy sort, G1 generation collecting friend :) I too love to craft, but I don't *sigh* sadly I can never find enough time to craft or read :( one day I'll get my act together and work on the 1846582 projects I'd like to do but until then I look forward to seeing you around the corral ;)

I can't wait to see your customs!

I keep telling myself I need to make my own customs thread, but then proceed to get distracted… *sighs*

Soon, I promise. I did pop a few things on insta, though. I REALLY need to be more active there. My handle is angelasfixations if you want to peek.

I wish I had access to a lab… That’s really interesting, though. I hadn’t even thought to look into DIY solutions. I looked at ventilation units and standalone systems on the market, but that’s waaaaaay out of my price range. I’ve become paranoid about fumes, just because with all the lecturing people do that more or less implies you will die instantly if you breathe MSC. (Despite that I probably inhaled worse in grade-school in the 80’s~90’s...) I have a vapor mask - so technically I could do it in my studio, but my cat has always had full access to that room and even if I kicked her out temporarily I’d have no idea when it was safe enough to reopen it. Plus I assume the smaller the animal, the more susceptible they are.

Alas, until I can stay both interested and on task long enough to finish a story (and also beat down my internal perfectionist critic), publication remains unlikely.

I totally get that, especially as someone who tends to work very slowly. The combination of focus issues and OCD-level perfectionism means as a general rule I will take three times as long to do any single task than I should. (Oh how I miss reading, too, but that fell to the wayside a long time ago. I have to be in a certain frame of mind and stress-free space before my brain will even consider being bothered to pay attention. )

If there is one thing I’ve found since moving to a place with my own studio, it’s that there are two things creative people will NEVER have enough of: space, and time. No matter how much more I get of either, they remain my biggest nemeses.

Hopefully you’ll be able to find some free time and treat yourself to a project soon! ❤️

I hadn’t even thought to look into DIY solutions.
The popularity of 3D printers, laser cutters, and resin work has made people get creative. Plus, lots of people need something smaller to fit into their apartments. You'll need to consider how loud you make your fume extractor if you have neighbors that will hear it.

I was surprised the MSC didn't smell worse. I've used more toxic smelling paints, strippers, etc.

I didn't know if you'd contributed any short stories to any anthologies or an illustration to someone else's work.

My main issue with getting stuff completed is just time, energy, and just feeling well enough to do it. There's never enough time.
