I finally got around to reading the Hunger Games series and just finished it. I loved it of course, but I am seriously pissed at Gale. Ah well. I am looking for another book or series like that to read. Any suggestions? Outside of comics and Walking Dead novels I have not read many books in the past few years. Well none for pleasure. I read a lot, just not what you would call 'light reading.' Ha! Thanks in advance!

Any book or comic by Neil Gaiman is worth the read! Even his children and young adult books are fantastic.

Awesome, I will have to check him out. I was thinking of getting the Divergent series. Does anyone know if that is a good series? I liked the first movie :)

My nieces really loved the Divergent series. I have not read the books. I am still trying to finish three books I started but have not completed.

I second Neil Gaiman. Delightful chap. I will suggest The HItchhiker's Guide to the Universe trilogy. It's really very funny. Douglas Adams was a hilarious fellow.

I just started reading the Hitchhiker's Guide. Very creative stuff!

They're very quotable books. We're always quipping a line or two from one of the series.

a favorite book of mine is Raptor Red by Robert T. Bakker one of my favorite Paleontologists. If you like Dinosaurs this is a great read.

If you're ever in the mood for something a little headier, I do recommend anything by Stanislaw Lem. He wrote the novel "Solaris" which was made into both Russian and America films (Russian is wayyy better, in my not too humble opinion.) Lem wrote some mindbending sci fi. His book Memoirs Written in a Bathtub is one of the most fascinating looks at bureaucracy gone made since Orwell's 1984, but with a definite Soviet flair.

Warriors, not too violent but it is really good. Probably just because cats fight and nearly kill each other.

On a second thought, the Divergent series is a really good one. Like Hunger Games but different atmosphere and plot.

That sounds fascinating. I loved 1984.

Right? I was Team Gale right up until the end and then I was pissed. What the heck? I understand she was having a hard time deciding between the two of them and she was a train wreck from what she had been through and then the dude just up and abandons her. What a tool!

Oh good. I just ordered the four book hard cover series. I hate paper back books, so I wait for a good deal on the hard covers. I got both the HG and D series for less than one set costs at BN on Amazon :)

While I haven't had the chance to read them myself, Evan Angler's Swipe series has some great reviews.
Ray Bradbury - Fahrenheit 451
Kathryn Lasky - Guardians of Ga'Hoole and the sequel series, Wolves of the Beyond. (WotB can be read as a stand-alone series as well.)
Anything by Cornelia Funke ( my personal favorites are the Thief Lord and the Inkheart trilogy.)
Micheal Morpurgo's War Horse and Kensuke's Kingdom.
Lisa McMann - The Unwanteds series. (Unfortunately, my library doesn't always allow requests, so I've only read the first two. They were enjoyable, though.)
Diana Wynne Jones - Howl's Moving Castle
Anything by Marguerite Henry (These aren't your typical cliche horse stories, most are based off of legends or actual events. I recommend King of the Wind, Brighty of the Grand Canyon, and Misty of Chincoteaque.)
R.D. Henham - Dragon Codex series
A. J. Lake - The Darkest Age trilogy.
C. S. Lewis' space trilogy, which begins with Out of the Silent Planet. I enjoyed this more than Narnia.
Dodie Smith - One Hundred and One Dalmatians (Yes, it was originally a book!)
Micheal Ende - The Neverending Story (This was a book, too.)
Lemony Snicket - A Series of Unfortunate Events
Rick Riordan - Percy Jackson and the Olympians and the Kane Chronicles.
John Flanagan - Ranger's Apprentice.

(Me? Read? Who would have thought? >__> )

I love to read Karin Slaughters books. They are very well written detective stories. But be warned it decribes very detailed murders etc.
More light reading could be hmm.. Chistopeher Paolinis Eragon series. If you like to read fantasy.
Then I like to read books that have something to do with history (when it is fiction). Sergeanne Golons Angelika series was nice to read even thought the main character sometimes did get me mad :p.
I also love classic like gone with the wind or Ivanhoe etc..
Now for some reasons nothing pops at my mind though I too read quite a much

Oh, and I also forgot to mention the Maximum Ride series published under James Patterson. (If I remember correctly, he isn't the actual author...)

The Hunger Games were a great series. I started reading Divergent after the rave reviews, but book 2 and 3 just didn't cut it for me. I highly recommend the Game of Thrones series. I had trouble putting them down!

Metro 2033 was really good if you like Russian fiction about the apocalypse, or any army field manuals they cover all kinds of topics I just started FM 21-76 Survival it has been interesting so far.
