✎✐✎✐✎✐ possible trigger warning: weight loss talk below ✎✐✎✐✎✐

hey, everyone! :) i debated on whether or not i wanted to make this thread or not because i'm a huge supporter of body positivity and being happy at any size. just so y'all know, i'm not by any means saying anyone should lose weight, etc. i'm making this choice for myself only and wanted to see if anyone else was out there, haha.

anyway, i've decided recently that i'd like to make some changes to make my lifestyle more healthy. i've always been somewhat overweight and that isn't a big problem with me. but as a college student, i've found that my eating habits have taken a turn for the worse and i'm really feeling the impact of the fast food, large portions, etc. that i eat. i've noticed i run out of breath faster lately and find myself having more and more cravings for salty, sugary, fat-filled foods! ლಠ益ಠ)ლ

i'm making it a goal to eat smaller portions, exercise, and get out more often to go on walks and stuff like that. i'm easing in to it since i don't want to shock myself and end up falling off the bandwagon like i have in the past. (i was a HUGE yoyo dieter in high school and i think it messed with my metabolism. seriously.)

so i was just wondering if any of y'all might be making a similar journey! i even thought we might be able to make a group on fb or something or keep this thread up, something like a support group for pony people getting healthy! ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ maybe we could post healthy recipes, or just encouragement for each other. if anyone would prefer a facebook that would be ok with me, just send me a pm.

Hooray for you! It can be such a hard step to take, just starting to adjust the nutritional side of eating healthy. I am right there with you. Over the last several years, I have been watching my body slowly blimping up while my fitness has declined since making the switch from being the dancer, to being the dance teacher. It's just not the same. My husband and I are both trying to change the way we eat and I am trying to figure out how to do "exercise" that doesn't bore me to tears.

One recommendation for you: If you at all struggle with getting enough fruit/veggies in your life (which is the type of person I am), I suggest making green smoothies. I started this in the spring and plan to start them back up again this week. I like to make them with spinach as the green base. I make them in the morning and have it as breakfast/morning snack. It is the most convenient way for me to ingest vegetables. If you want my base recipe, let me know.

I would love to have a pony "support group" of other like-minded individuals, on the road to a healthier life-style. :)

I think this is a great idea. I noticed I've put on weight after some major surgery, and while I'm quite active, it seems my problem is that I'm not doing the 'right' kind of activities. Which is odd, you'd think walking and carrying 50lb feed bags all day would be enough, but it obviously isn't. Can't be my calorie intake, because I'm awful about not eating at all.

I'd love to get on the same page and try to be healthier, and it's always easier with friends!

Yep, Im in too, I have about 5kg to lose that won't budge.
Right here on this thread is good for me, rather than Facebook.

So, since we have at least a few that would like accountability/encouragement friends... What should we do? Set some daily goals? Weekly goals? "Every day this week I will _____" (insert something like, "walk a mile" or "drink a green smoothie" or "only eat a serving size at each meal"...? Or, just chat about health things....? I'm excited to have some help with this!

Awesome idea, though green smoothies are out for me, since I have goiters on my thyroid, green things like spinach raw are anti-thyroid so I avoid those. Far as the rest of those things, they are great :) I too need motivation so being able to talk to others will be good. :)

Oo me too me too! I was really good until about three years ago and then I had all kinds of mental problems that led to weight gain. I would love a support group.

Here is better than Facebook. I actually ditched Facebook in exchange for this forum because I got tired of people trying to force their politics on me. No offense to face-book people.

We could make a map of pony ville and every time we have a "good" day (whatever that means for you whether exercise or eating healthy) we keep track of how far into pony ville we travel. I heard of some other list playing this game and it sounded kind of fun.

My biggest weakness is sugar. Especially chocolates. My mouth waters just thinking about it. And of course portion control and then the big one: I hate exercise. It was fine in high school and junior college when I was doing fun stuff like sailing and fencing. But now I can't afford the sports classes anymore so... Yeah, I could really use help with an exercise motivator.

@marbledragon I love your map idea.

My weakness is chips, I love them, hot chips, potato chips/crisps.... they taste far too good.

@CJFullmer i'd love to hear your recipe for green shakes!

i'm so glad to here that there are other people out there going through this! :) my current goal is to stick to bringing lunch to school and avoid eating out in general. it's a big inconvenience, honestly, but it will pay off eventually!

Alright, here is the recipe that I started with when I began making green smoothies. After making it a few times, I started making adjustments and changed what fruit I used, etc. I have discovered that I have a sensitivity (?) to bananas... so I don't put any in my smoothies anymore, which means that I often use some avocado for smooth texture and have to find another sweet fruit for flavoring. The number one tip I would like to emphasize is that you have to get the greens to blend up first. Greens with liquid (water, or OJ, of whatever you're going to use) alone in the blender first. And it may take starting and stopping the blender several times, pushing stuff down/around with a spoon, to get it to liquefy. That website has a LOT of recipes, so if you're interested in green smoothies, be sure to explore it.

EDIT: Oh, and I know they look like a gross witch's brew... all green and slimy, but if you get the fruit to veggie ratio right, you don't taste the green at all. :)

I think this is a great idea! Though I kind of have the opposite problem... I'm very skinny, and I'm afraid it might not be good for me. I never had any eating disorders, though, so it might just be how I am naturally, but I still wanted to make sure I'm getting the nutrients I need to stay healthy. Lately I cut off chocolate from my diet due to anxiety issues, and I know I can't have "digestive" labeled anything (with me, might as well be labeled "laxative", if you know what I mean). But I'll be the first to admit I'm kind of a zero when it comes to nutrition knowledge. ^^;

This is such a great idea! Congrats on wanting to be more healthy. You should be proud of yourself whether thin or fat. Wanting to be healthy is a much better reason to diet than wanting to shape yourself after modem beauty in my opinion.

I myself am 5'5 and 220. I've always been a big girl and it actually evens out pretty well. Most of my friend don't think I'm that heavy unless I show my tummy. I have a very chubby tummy and it sort of folds in half so it looks like I have two tummys. Needless to say I'm not exactly pleased with that. I know I'm always going to be a plus size and I like it like that. However I would like to drop a few pounds and feel better while doing it. I'd love to join you on your journey.

I also think sharing healthy recipes is a lovely idea! It's so freakin hard to diet now. I'll be honest by saying I can't afford lots of healthy foods and I don't have a lot of time to cook healthy. What's cheaper and faster than a $1 burger for dinner? All the fast and inexpensive food is horrible for you. People with lower incomes and little time get fatter and it's an awful cycle I've been in for years. I'd love to see and share healthy recipes to hopefully break this cycle

i totally agree, thanks for posting this reply! i'm right with you, especially with feeling like eating healthy is too expensive/time consuming! i'm hoping we can figure out a way to beat that system. and same here about doing it for health! i tried to lose weight for aesthetic reasons in high school and it made me so miserable. it's definitely worth learning how to be happy with yourself at any size and then lose weight for health. =)

how's everyone's week going?
i've ended up not having time to prepare lunches for monday and wednesday so i had to buy lunch, so that was a little disappointing. but i found some of these things on sale at target and bought two for a test run. i really like them and i find that they make a great lunch with a yogurt and piece of fruit. i got them 2 for $6 which is still pretty expensive so they'll be saved for treats, but i might go ahead and buy a couple more while they're on sale because i don't think they're worth it full price. i'm planning on going to the gym to get all of that stuff set up next weekend for sure. i'm going to be doing little stretch/work out videos on youtube which aren't so bad! also planning on trying @CJFullmer 's green shake recipe this weekend.

This is great I was just told by a doctor I have high blood pressure, and I have be healthier. It will be hard to cut back on the sweets and meats.

So I'll just lurk on this thread.

Well, I'm just lagging myself. I seem to be dragging butt ever since the dehydration/exhaustion thing hit me. Now I'm having trouble getting back to up speed. It's not even that hot out, just 87°F (or 30°C), but two hours pulling fence and I'm ready to die.

What a drag that it is to grow old.

i can't even do that type of work and i'm only 20! you're stronger than you think :)

I was raised doing this, so to me it's just second nature. Most people won't wanna do my job. I have a lot on common with G4 Applejack. I like to work and work and work. So it's funny I have this extra weight. I guess my fatness loves me too much to leave.

Oh, fatness. Thank you for your loyalty, but wouldn't you like to visit my littlest sister? She's all bony, she could use a little of you.

I am turning 40 this year -faints.- Though the positive news I could give anybody is not to quit with your daily fitness healthy routine. I used to weigh 245 pounds. I now weigh 191 pounds. I still have about 31 more pounds to loose. I found that I have to control what I eat so I use a daily planner on my computer and I know they have them for cell phones. Though I dont use a cell phone fitness plan. I find it hard at times to stick to this plan but I have to keep going on. I walk more and I take the stairs most times. I eat more soups and salads. The hardest part for me is tracking what I eat and how much but im doing well and I feel lighter on my feet which is a big deal for me.
