getting healthy

I have a hard time sometimes drinking alot of water. I can make myself drink about 6 glasses a day. I find if I can mix sparkling water with those 0 calorie drinks. I wish they made a cola one but im fine with 'grape soda.' I know too much artificial sweeteners aren't good either but I have to rely on something and I didn't care very much for stevia I found it bitter. I like splenda better. I want to add that protein will make a difference in your diet. when I use protein bars and drinks I found that I was less hungry during the day. I admit I eat at night but I stick with whole wheat crackers or sugar free pop sickles. when you reach closer to your goal I find its harder because my body adjusted to healthier living. I ate a burrito yesterday and I found that I don't really crave as much junk food and it tastes terrible. I once even had a very small butterfinger candy bar and overkill on sweetness. So I will try to stick to salads and soups. :) Also change up the exercise routine because bodies differently get used to it. :/ I thought i could do about 90 minutes a day and I would loose weight I was wrong. I changed things up and now I do variety of different exercises. I do miss my long walks though. I hope to walk more in spring.

I've battled with my weight since I was a child, when my Mother passed away a couple of years ago due to complications with diabetes I decided to lower my sugar intake and eat better. I was getting close to being diabetic and wanted to stave that off. While I haven't lost much weight, I have gotten my sugars under control. I've been taking Hoodia Ultra 2000 for over a year now and while they don't help my appetite much, they do help with carb and sugar cravings. Different people react differently to herbal supplements, so they may help or may not, just mentioning it in case anyone wants to try it.

I drink maybe one soda a week now and try to stay away from bottled teas and juices (which can also have a lot of sugar).

Evilbunnyfoo: Maybe you should carry around little baggies of healthy snacks with you like carrot sticks or a small serving of almonds and munch on them while you work? I know what you mean about being hugely hungry at night and then eating a large amount of food. That happens to me if I'm not careful. Also, when you're really hungry like that, studies have proven that a person is far more likely to reach for carbs, sugars, and fats and to eat much more than they should.

I really need to exercise. It's so hard to make myself do it though!

That's very good advice. I have a very bad habit of getting to work as soon as I wake without eating. My work is quite vigorous, hauling feed, shuttling animals, cutting wood and such, and I get very hungry. I head into the house finally and I'm so famished I grab something unhealthy to eat because I'm just starving. I have to get myself into a routine of eating something for breakfast before I head out.

My doctor warned me I won't lose weight by eating so infrequently as the body assumes we're in a situation where food is scarce and it holds the fats, thinking it needs it to survive.

Dumb me...

You could try to make yourself healthy dinners that you only need to heat up in the oven or mircowave. You can freeze or refrigerate them ahead of time.
