G5 I can see this already going to present a problem

As the toys continue to be released for g5, allowing us a glimpse of what if very soon to come, I really can’t help but notice a very troubling and very suspicious trend.

There seems to be a frequently occurring omitting of a certain main pony- that apparently being the very first male main pony that has ever been done- Hitch Trailblazer. We can very clearly see that we have already a steadily increasing number of Sunny, Izzy, Pipp, and Zipp toys….but only one Hitch toy. This legitimately concerns me.

I fear that he is already receiving the role of a certain fan-dubbed “background pony” that was commonly played for laughs…although, Applejack had plenty of her own toys in the toyline to contradict that statement. Hitch, however….I mean, at this point, while it is still very early, and it is possible that he will indeed receive more toys in the future…I gotta look at things for how they are at the moment and say…Hitch is just seeming to be the “Applejack’s hat” of the toyline, for this generation. Already, quite a few others, I’ve noticed, have also begun to question Hitch’s whereabouts in the toyline, as more and more of the female leads continue to receive their toys ahead of him.

And while I desire for the pony fandom of g4/5 to pull together as they do and get a massive call for change heard, enough to influence Hasbro to notice and take action (because let’s be honest, Bronies gained attention and influenced things directly for g4, many times over), I just can’t see that big of a passionate fan base for poor Hitch, to be able to warrant such a significant change- at least at this point in time. I hope the fandom proves me wrong.

He was made one of the main characters for the same reason countless of other toy/doll lines have done the same thing.
To have a token boy main character in a toy line targeted towards girls. There's so much commotion in the doll community about boy dolls and how they should be there for the boys who play with dolls, diversity, etc. But most of the time they're half baked characters that are there to date one of the main girl characters. It's one of the reasons I'm not a huge fan of boy dolls.
Hopefully that's not all Hitch is there for and he'll actually have a personality, but only time will tell!

In the little announcement video for investors the head of Boulder (the animation studio for Hasbro projects, including G5) seemed really excited about having the “very first boy pony in the main cast.” In MLP Tales I don’t think Teddy and the others counted.

Meanwhile I suspect Hasbro was less excited because they’re convinced girls won’t like or want to buy boy characters, let alone one with his color scheme (every main G5 pony has pink and/or purple except for Hitch). Your “Hitch is AJ’s hat” analogy sounds accurate, but I think “Hitch is the new Spike” is even more accurate. Hitch has two toys as of now, both not brushable and one articulated. And one of those toys is in a set with the girls. Sounds like a Spike to me. And I gotta say I don’t think any of us are surprised.
I think we need to wait a little bit before going all doom and gloom about Hitch (and also wait and see if fans young and old even like the guy) but as of now I honestly don’t think Hasbro will care about what fans think unless the few Hitch toys are flying off the shelves. And even then it’s hard to know if they’ll care. They’ve been very inconsistent on what they listen to and what they don’t.

They should come on here and check out how many of us girls like our G1 big brothers and mountain boys! Then they’d know that we like boy ponys too

Shouldn't this be part of the chatter thread?

I'm seriously disappointed in the lack of boys. I played with tmnt and transformers as a kid. Just give us some boy ponies!

Remembering one the descriptions of the articulated new toys, I’m sure it said “girls and boy”s, suggesting they want to market more to boys too now after the success with bronies in G4?

It is really disappointing to see the lack of Hitch even though he’s supposedly a main character but it feels like Sunny and Izzy are their favourites this time round

Not that I wouldn’t be all for gender neutral marketing, but wasn’t that a machine translation? I believe the Official English descriptions just say “children” or “kids,”which implies gender neutrality but doesn’t emphasize pushing to boys like “girls and boys” does. All of the kids on the box art have been girls too. I think they’re still really only marketing to girls without explicitly saying “this is a girls toy” because, well, that’s a bit outdated.
The most gender neutral MLP’s marketing has gotten is probably Guardians of Harmony and I can’t see them really trying it again anytime soon.

Ah, I think that was a machine translation. It was when it was the toys were just been spotted here and there
