List of Ponies Safe (and Not Safe) to Sunfade

Does anyone know if the sea pony Sea Breeze would be fine? I haven’t tried doing it with one of this color

Hi guys, has anyone tried sunfading Streaky from the rainbow curls? My lovely lady has a little bit of green pen on her that id like to fade, but I'm hesitant because I feel like lavender ponies already tend to age really poorly and turn kind of brown and grey. I'd hate to burn her
I myself just picked up a Raincurl and her head is more yellowed than her body and I'd like to try to even her out some. Don't want to try liquid h2o2 because I really don't want to rehair her.
Granted the sun is so hot and bright where I'm at I might not need to use hair developer either

I am currently giving my sea pony sea breeze a try. So far it hasn’t been too bad. I removed her head. It has been overcast the last few days so I gave her under a UV lamp.

Thanks for this
I think I’ll try doing mine & just check it often

Good luck… I just did some before and afters. She was VERY badly stained but so far she’s had a lot of improvement in a short time. I check on her every 2 hours or so, clean her off and reapply the 40v. Keep me posted on how it goes!

This is so late, but I sunfaded Sea Breeze last year and the vibrancy of her neon orange did fade a little bit. She actually faded very quickly though and it was not particularly noticeable.

Don't fade any translucent ponies, i.e. sparkles, divine shines, water cuties.

Gingerbread, Starshine, and Quackers is a definite no. Unsure of Baby Quackers?
What happened to your Starshine? Mine has pony cancer and bad discoloration and others have suggested using the salon cream and light box. Currently I'm working on restoring her body shape as she warped badly after decades in an attic.

Munchy turned out to be safe to sunfade! (Used 40 Volume and a combination of UV lights, real sunlight, and my Aerogarden). The Aerogarden had much more dramatic results than the UV box I built!

What type of light does your aerogarden have? I have some grow lights for when I start my garden seedlings. How long did you put your pony under the lights? Also in the pictures what did you use to cover Munchies' eyes and symbols? Is it masking tape?

I used masking tape at first, but it started getting gooey and I got nervous so I removed it and just covered her whole body in foil except for the specific area I wanted to continue fading. The Aerogarden has a grow light, I don't know much about those but it sure grows plants pretty fast! I just left her in there with the seedlings and reapplied salon 40 cream every morning.

Thank you! I found out other people use grow lights & their mini-greenhouses too. :winkpony:

I just got done sunfading my Streaky. I would say do it with caution. Mine didn’t burn or anything but the lavender did become a bit pale. For me I was still thrilled with the final results.

WITH CAUTION

Ponies with neon hair and neon bodies (such as Sugarberry/Strawberry Fair and Seabreeze) as these colors fade rapidly
Is this meaning Tropical Seabreeze (neon orange body)? Only asking because of the sea pony of the same name!

I was wondering, has anyone sunfaded a Baby Lucky? The blue mail-order baby boy. I'm curious if the dark color might get messed up with peroxide cream and natural sunlight

I know this is an older thread but I wanted to add ones I didn't see mentioned that I had great success sun fading:

Starflower (yellowing, pony cancer, bleeding cutie)
Sugarberry ("highlighter" marks)
Boysenberry Pie (head/body mismatch)
Sparkler (yellowing)
Speedy (random ink marks--USE CAUTION with her---watch her like a hawk)
Princess Serena (head/body mismatch)
Pinwheel (pony cancer, bleeding cuties)

Maybe not safe: Cloud Dreamer. She came out streaky and blotchy. I think maybe it could work if you were soaking her in liquid peroxide instead of using cream and I may try that on a different one some day. I am turning mine into a custom though and the streaking isn't going to have a huge impact on what I am doing. (I feel ok customizing her because her original hair was cut and her cuties were not salvageable.)

I currently have a lot of ponies not in the original list who are waiting their turn for sun fading and some that are just taking a long time that I can add as spring and summer progress. :)

Wait, way late to the show, but isn't peroxide a big no-no? Like, the thing that isn't safe to put on a pony under any circumstances, because it will soak in and keep bleaching and bleaching for years to come?

I know that acne creams (benzoyl peroxide) are definitely not safe on ponies and will bleach them. I know a lot of people will use hydrogen peroxide in tandem with sunfading. I dont know if this causes any noticeable negative results, least i havent heard of it causing anything. But I am totally with you on being too anxious to put creams of any kind on my ponies, I dont want to regret it if, years later, there are negative effects like the benzoyl peroxide. Besides, you can sunfade ponies without cream or liquid hydrogen peroxide at all, it just takes longer. I’d rather be safe than impatient, lol.

Oh, I see! Thanks for the clarification, I just saw the key word and the alarm in my brain went off! :D But, I agree, wouldn't put any weird chemistry on them without knowing for certain that it's safe. Too many horror stories from the internet... :)
