List of Ponies Safe (and Not Safe) to Sunfade

Has anyone tried sun-treating a brown cancer spot on a sea pony float before?
 
Cherry Treats’ mane has a stripe faded into near enough the middle of it even though I know I covered it so much. I knew this colour is prone to fading. Was this the caution about her or was it a burning body?

I believe it was a caution specifically about her body - that's so bizarre that happened! I can make a note of it in the list.

I think it’s the bright colour of her hair in general. I think the same could also happen to ponies like Strawberry Fair who also have that shade of red? Or perhaps neon hair ponies, like @Draco ‘s Confetti
 
I'd say most hair is prone to fading. Warmer colors especially like yellow and pink hair fades easily. Orange too. Blue I never seem to have a problem with, but again, always cover anyway!

I use blue painter's tape to cover hairline (After covering hair with foil and paper towels) to make sure nothing is expose. I always take tails out.
 
oh i should dig out my baby tic tac toe, im pretty sure shes sunburned!!

unless she just has a really good tan xD lol
 
has anyone had a super negative experience sunfading star shine in h2o2?

She's a ch-ch-ch-ch-Cherry Bomb!

I think with scented ponies it's less a burning issue, and more that the oils may discolor some of them. I've heard some people complain that Cherry Treats gets worse, and some say she's just fine to sunfade.

I think that song came to mind when I saw the tattoo too!

I’m not sure if she’s actually starting to get greasy now she’s finished… I’ll have to check again in the morning

I would put Confetti on the “with caution” section: Ive seen people with horribly burned ones, but I was able to sunfade mine for a little over half a year before she started showing any sunburn signs (and I was able to stop before she was actually burned, her highlighter was so bad though I wasn’t able to get it all.)
Gusty fades beautifully in my experience.
Currently sunfading a Seashell…. It’s only been 2 or 3 months but so far no burning or anything, may edit this to say how she faded when shes done.

I’ve never actually seen anyone sunfade BBE ponies, so I’d be curious what peoples experiences are. Since she’s a white pony and it seems that many of the “with caution” and “unsafe” ponies are white plastic, I’d probably be cautious and just keep more of an eye on her while she sun fades if no one has tried it before. :smile:
 
Rookie question from someone who's never sunfaded before: does the same caution apply to traditional sunfading, i.e. sticking the pony in the window? :smile: I don't have a UV box. :unsure:

Yes! You always have to be careful sunfading, even the normal sun on its own can damage your pony’s cutiemarks, hair, or body if they get sunburned! Be sure to cover their hair and symbols and always keep a close eye on your pony!

Thanks! Is it enough if I wrap her in paper towels or cloth? I've heard people using aluminium foil, but I've also heard of ponies getting baked beneath that, so I'm not sure what the best covering would be?

I’ve also heard of aluminum foil staining ponies’s bodys.

I usually tie mine’s hair up and cover it in several layers of toiler paper, keeping it in place with a hair tie. I know most people use a type of paint to seal the cutiemarks up and protect them from the sun. But I am lazy/don’t have access to that type of paint/would worry about it coming all off the pony properly, so I usually just cover their bottoms or any other marks with toilet paper too. I’ve faded multiple ponies like this and haven’t run into any fading issues, but I also check on my ponies throughout the day every day (if you are fading completely using the sun, it may take anywhere from a few weeks to months depending on how much sun you get!) Worth noting of course that if you are using cloth or something to cover the entire flank, that area might have a harder time fading (like the areas surrounding the cutiemarks).

Hi guys, has anyone tried sunfading Streaky from the rainbow curls? My lovely lady has a little bit of green pen on her that id like to fade, but I'm hesitant because I feel like lavender ponies already tend to age really poorly and turn kind of brown and grey. I'd hate to burn her :cry:
