so, i just got a lot of ponies at once to work on, so i figured i'd make a thread like some of y'all have to show off progress instead of making individual posts.

these gals and guy arrived today in a lot i got pretty cheap. they're all dirty, have cut hair, tail washer rattles, glitter loss, the works. i'll be adding 7 of them into my collection and selling the rest to new homes once they're fixed up.

i've had these two for a bit; they've needed some work and i haven't gotten to them for now. no before pic of boysenberry pie, cause i'm good at remembering to take pics of the before /s  mostly going to see if i can brighten her up a bit, she is very grayish purple and sad.

last of the bunch is my roommate's chief. she got him a very long time ago and she eventually threw him into the bait bin but we were talking about restoration stuff and she asked me to try my hand with him. he's going to be my guinea pig with my new UV light box. i've already cracked him open and took out his (very rusty) tail for treatment.

body repair is definitely outside my area of experience, but i might try and fix it to the best of my ability. the problem, i think, is he technically doesn't have anything missing, just damage, so we'll see how it goes.

Nice work on these! The Mirror Mirror restoration gives me an interesting thought. In the case of a Magic Message pony like Mirror Mirror, when the symbols are damaged and the effect of showing the pictures underneath can't function anymore, would you rather have them touched up so they look like they do at room temperature, or painted like the images that should show when the symbols are warmed up? I think it would be cool to have the hidden images showing all the time! But that's a lot more work...

I will be the voice of the devil on your shoulder and say both. There’s a few options, the first is to have one pony displaying both. One side the symbol at room temperature and the other side of the revealed symbol. OR if you want to be extra have three ponies one displays as is, one for room temperature symbols and one for revealed symbols. ;)

thanks! for me personally in this case i would prefer the room temp symbol...it would bug me if the symbols on both sides don't match.

the preservation project section on magic message symbols mentions some heat activated paint, but that sounds like a science experiment i'm not wanting to work on (yet)

I was also interested in this paint, but I did not find a topic where it would be used on the Magic Message pony.

I'm excited to see how poor Chief turns out!
unfortunately, after many weeks of my best attempts at uv fading him, the yellowing on his feet and "glasses" didn't really budge, so i threw in the towel. the major problem was the yellowing was on the inside of his hooves, which made it really difficult to get at it :( his age spots and other stray pink marks cleared up though.

i've been in a bit of a slump personal life-wise (hence my late reply) but i did do a rehair on frilly flower and a nice clean-up of princess taffeta.

Starshine is always a satisfying fix, cos she looks sooo bad but sunfades so nicely :)

she really was so gross. she was extremely sticky from plasticizer leakage as well, though it seems to have all cleared out now. i'll check her in a little bit and see how she's holding up. :starshine:

You got her unsticky? :O

according to the mlp preservation project's section on plasticizer, hydrogen peroxide treatments may help draw it out. i used hydrogen peroxide on starshine and it has at least temporarily taken away the stickiness, but given that the preservation project's page is the only source i've seen on this i'm taking it with a grain of salt for now.
