Hello everyone!

It is an honor to be able to continue to build, maintain, and move toward the future with the MLPTP. It is a job that could not be done without the help of site mods @BethMcBeth, @Gingerbread, @Skybreeze, and @Sassarazzmadazzles. We work together to keep the MLPTP forum updated with state of the art software and features, fix any broken parts, and add brand new features for our members.

However, updating and managing a forum is not as easy as it sounds, and it comes at quite a cost. :unsure:

While we have made great progress and have set a beautiful foundation for the future of the MLPTP, all the while managing to save 14 years of our history following the departure of the previous owner, there are certain costs of running such a large website that cannot be overlooked, and that's where YOU, our MLPTP family, come in.

In order to help ease the financial burden, we are hosting a fundraiser to cover our 2023-2024 costs, with forum trophies and prizes to be had by those who choose to donate and help us out.

Note: Paypal does take out fees for donations, meaning that a $5 donation will only come through as $4.45 or so to us.
Your entries will be based on your donation BEFORE fees, but you are welcome to help offset the fees if you choose to.

Fundraiser Terms & Conditions

Entries to the fundraiser will CLOSE on 7/14/23 at 11:59PM EST.
All donations are final and non-refundable.
100% of proceeds go toward the cost of running the site. Mods and admin are not paid and work on a volunteer basis.
There is no guarantee that participants will be chosen for a prize.
Winners will be chosen using Random.org. A third party will draw the first 3 winners, and a moderator or admin will draw the rest.
Some prizes may be in gently used or used condition; not all prizes are brand new nor in mint condition.
All prize donations from members must be received by the start of the Fundraiser (6/01/23) to be included in the 2023 Fundraiser. Prizes that arrive after this date will be used for the 2024 Fundraiser, and the donor will receive entries for this year's (2023) Fundraiser.
Donors will receive entries to the Fundraiser based on how many prize lots are donated, not based on every single item donated.
If donated prizes are deemed too heavy to ship with Fundraiser funds or for any other reason are not eligible to be included in the Fundraiser (arrived broken, too large or heavy to ship, etc) they will be auctioned in the MLPTP's Auction House with 100% of proceeds benefitting the 2023 Fundraiser. Donors will still get entries for donating prizes.
If there is a surplus of donated items, they may be saved for the next Fundraiser at the discretion of the admin team.
All items will be shipped with a tracking number. Items valued over $50 will be insured. Prizes may arrive in multiple shipments depending on where they are shipping from.
Forum donations of any kind do not serve to absolve, correct, or otherwise change the outcome for any behavior or actions (past, present, or future) on the part of the donor which go against the rules of the MLPTP, and cannot reverse warning points, suspensions, or bans. Likewise, forum donations do not make the donor entitled to any form of promotion, personal benefit, or special treatment at the MLPTP.
All participants participate at their own risk and discretion.

Participants:
- You must provide the entire list of available prizes (located here) put into order from your MOST DESIRED to LEAST DESIRED in order to be eligible for prize drawing. PM all information to @MustBeJewel.
- You must provide your entire shipping address, including your full name, otherwise we will not be able to ship a prize to you and you will not be eligible for prize drawing. PM all information to @MustBeJewel.
  - Your list of preferred prizes and your full shipping address must be received by 11:59pm EST on July 14th 2023 in order to be eligible for prize drawing.
  - If your list is incomplete (ie: does not include all prizes listed) and your number is drawn, but the prizes on your incomplete list have already been spoken for, you will be issued a prize at random unless you specify otherwise. You may submit a partial list with the clause that if the prizes on that partial list are already claimed, that you want to pass on your win to the next randomly drawn number or specific MLPTP member.
  - If you submit an address but do not submit your list, you will be issued a prize at random.
  - If you wish to gift an entry to a friend, it must be included as a note with your Paypal payment.
  - If you do not submit your full shipping address, you will not be able to receive a prize if your number is drawn.
  - If you win a prize, your prize will be shipped to exactly the shipping address you supply. A full name and address is required for shipping purposes only.
  - If you win a prize and fail to retrieve your package from your PO box or otherwise disregard notices from the postal service to retrieve your package and it is returned to us, you will need to pay shipping to have it sent to you again. We will only be able re-send once.
  - It is your responsibility to check this thread for updates, as well as to check your private messages and emails for communications and updates about the fundraiser.
  - Email updates will be sent automatically to your registered MLPTP email address only. Please make sure this setting is up to date in your MLPTP profile.
  - For any MLPTP matters, please do not contact the mods or admin outside of the MLPTP forum.
  - By participating in the fundraiser, you agree to the above Terms & Conditions.

What Does the Fundraiser Pay For?

Hi all! I wanted to take a moment to provide some clarity and transparency on exactly what we're raising funds for and how those funds are used to keep the MLPTP up and going, and why our goal this year is higher than years before.

These are the various costs that the 2023 fundraiser include:

Website hosting: Since we are growing, we have needed to upgrade to a new hosting service that will allow all the features that a growing website requires, such as increased storage and memory, automated backups, top notch tech support, and more.
Web Developer services: In order to move to our new host and new hosting package, I needed to source out a qualified web developer to ensure everything goes smoothly and as we need it to.
State-of-the-art forum base software: This requires an annual license for usage and support.
Forum software add-ons: The chat box, awards software, trader feedback software, donation widget, and many other separate pieces that work behind the scenes to keep the MLPTP secure, functional, and spam-free all come with licenses and fees.
The MLPTP is now an LLC! This new development will make moving forward much easier on a financial front, and will allow us to provide more for the community in the future. However, LLC's come with legal fees as well as yearly fees.
New artwork and graphics services
Prize shipping and packing materials: We are preparing to ship out more than 50 prizes in total this year, to destinations that may be national or international, and postage rates are constantly going up!

And many more things in between. Please note that neither admin or mods receive any Fundraiser funds.

Why Do We Draw Winners This Way?

The MLPTP has a long and rich history of games, events, and giveaways. We love being able to provide fun activities for our members, as well as chances to win prizes.

Prior to my becoming the site owner in 2019, I had been a moderator here since 2005. I saw many, MANY, events come to pass, and could not help but notice that those events with a list of prizes from which members' names were drawn and had to choose a prize, would go something like this:

1. First name is drawn.

2. Admin reaches out for the winner to choose from the list of prizes.

3. Admin waits as long as a week or more for the winner to choose something and provide a shipping address.

4. Second name is drawn.

5. Admin reaches out for the winner to choose from the remaining list of prizes.

6. Admin waits as long as a week or more for the winner to choose something and provide a shipping address.

7. Third name is drawn.

8. Admin waits as long as a week or more for the winner to choose something and provide a shipping address, now heavily risking that this person has disappeared and will take even longer to track down as time goes on.

9. And so on....................

Can you imagine this process with more than 50 prizes like we have now??

We'd be here for a YEAR!

This process, on more than one occasion, dragged out for not weeks, but at one time, MONTHS. This meant that the admin was constantly chasing down people for their prize choices and information, and those who won prizes had to wait an exceedingly long period of time to be able to receive their prizes.

As the new site owner, I have chosen a much more expeditious and efficient route that benefits everybody.

Our process is that we ask each entrant to provide their shipping address ahead of time--this way, if they go MIA, we can still send them a prize if they are drawn for one. The fundraiser generally goes on for 6 weeks, and anything can happen during that time. We want to make sure that our winners receive their prizes. Your support and being a member of our community is important to us, and we want to uphold our promises to you.

By providing the list of prizes from most preferred to least preferred, entrants enable the admin to use this process:

1. First name is drawn.

2. Admin checks their prize list and chooses their top prize, and is ready to ship.

3. Second name is drawn.

3. Admin checks their prize list and chooses their top prize still available, and is ready to ship.

4. And so on.

Using this system, we are usually able to allocate prizes within 24-48 hours of numbers being drawn, and are usually able to ship within one week of the drawing.

This way, everyone whose name is drawn gets their most preferred prizes that are left on the list, they get them quickly, and the process does not stretch on for weeks or months.

Even better, the admin and mod team are then ready to move on to even more fun events for YOU!

Our Fundraiser covers our costs to operate for the next year.

Let's talk about what that means.

Hi everyone! I've had several people ask to know more about our exact financial goals, and how those goals break down. I'd like to take the opportunity to share with you all just how much it takes to keep this place going year after year, and show you just how crucial your donations are to keeping this community up and running.

MLPTP Costs for 1 year:

Web hosting: $1000
Forum software licenses: $60
LLC Registration: $300
Taxes: $500
Tax professional / accountant: $400
Financial bookkeeping programs: $360
Prizes: $200
Fundraiser shipping: $400

TOTAL: $3,220.00

Why Does the MLPTP Need to be an LLC?

First, let me reiterate that when I became the owner of the MLPTP in late 2019, it was sudden and unexpected. But there was no one else willing to take it on when the previous owner departed. While I am willing to put forward the effort and time to keep the community going, having been permanently disabled since the age of 17 means that I cannot support the MLPTP from my personal finances. In fact, to do so would mean jeopardizing my eligibility for things like my health insurance. The only way to do that in a proper legal sense is to have all finances run through MLPTP LLC.

You Put in SO MANY Hours Working for this Site, Don't You Get Paid at All?

I do not, and neither do the mods. We're just here for you.

Are There Any Ways to Cut Down Costs?

This budget as is bare-bones as it gets. We have postponed several other features that we were hoping to be able to bring to you, but as of now have not had the necessary funding to make it happen.
