Hi everyone,

As the MLPTP forum continues to grow and evolve, we are putting a heavy focus on fully updating all areas of the site as we move into the new year. Some new sections will be coming, some unused sections will be combined, and our hope is for the overall user experience to be as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

The first update I would like to draw everyone's attention to are our rules, which can be found here:

First update:

6. Hosting Swaps or Contests: Only moderators may host swaps which involve the exchange of physical goods at the MLPTP. This measure is in place to ensure everyone in the swap receives what they signed up for, and to protect against swaps falling through due to organizers going MIA for any reason.
  • If you have an idea for a swap or contest you would like us to consider, simply send a message to a moderator to explain your idea. We are happy to gauge interest and allow members to participate as a co-host with a moderator at our discretion.

  • If you would like to host a swap that does not involve the exchange of goods or money in any way, please contact a moderator for approval.

  • Art swaps of a digital nature (or scanned media, so long as the swap does not involve the mailing of physical goods) are allowed at any time.
Members participate in all activities at their own risk.

We realize that we have many generous, well-intentioned, and stellar members of the community who would like to be able to host their own swaps, so I wanted to explain in plenty of detail why this rule has been amended in this way.

When a swap is hosted by one member, all details (including which swap partner has which) is held solely by that member. As we have experienced just in the past year or so, when a swap-hosting member goes MIA for any reason, the entire swap is left hanging, and without painstaking intervention and costs incurred by the moderator team, that swap would have fizzled and ended.

However, when the mod team hosts an event, all of the mods and myself are privy to all swap information in the private admin forum, so that if the mod hosting has any kind of emergency/etc, another is ready to step in seamlessly and ensure that the event runs smoothly for everyone. While the need has been very rare, we also host events ready to incur the cost of any swap participants who fail to send their end of the swap. And we can guarantee this because there are 5 of us available at any given time to assist with any problems.

We know you are trustworthy, and we know that you love this community just like we do. But certain measures really need to be in place in order for events to go off as smoothly as possible. That is why we are happy to collaborate with you if you have a swap idea, but we cannot let members host swaps on their own.

That said, if you would like to host something like an art swap in which all art is posted to the forum as digital art or a scan of traditional art (and not sent in the mail), you may do that at any time without any prior approval.

But we are asking that any events you wish to host that involve goods of any kind be run by a moderator first. ;)

Second update:

7. Raffles: Raffles may not be held at the MLPTP.

Raffles, even for charity causes, will no longer be permitted at the MLPTP due to the wide variance in laws regarding raffles.

We will continue to run our yearly Fundraiser to cover the site of the forum, which we do not consider a raffle, as many donate without expectation or interest in the prizes that we offer as our thanks to our donors.

Conclusion:

If you have any questions about these changes, feel free to comment below, or contact a moderator directly. Thank you for your ongoing support of our beloved community. <3

Are private swaps between only two members still allowed as well as trades? At the members own risk, of course.

Buying, Selling, and Trading will always be allowed, and encouraged. The rules I referenced do not affect anything in the Marketplace subforums.

A "swap" means a hosted event with many participants, like the Holiday Swap: https://www.mlptp.net/index.php?threads/mlptps-holiday-swap-2022-get-shopping.118505/ or the Holiday Card Swap: https://www.mlptp.net/index.php?threads/mlptps-holiday-card-swap.118597

What’s the difference between giveaway and freebies?
