So, I’m going to piggyback off of the little review that Foofy did on the blind bags.
I was hoping to save this review until I had the brushables and the princess’s to review but unfortunately, in Canada I can only get my hot little hands on this girl for now. Amazon had a deal I couldn’t refuse for this girl $5CAD and I have Prime (price has since gone back up to $20CAD), so as an early “happy birthday to me” I bought her. She came today in a HUGE box (sadly didn’t think to photograph that). Because of the size of box she was shipped in, my box and you have some dings and damage. But that’s on Amazon not Hasbro.
Here’s Rarity in her box:
(If you look close you can see that her cheek just to the right of her eye presses against the window.)
Back of her box:
Anyone else dislike the lack of pony artwork? Pony information? Kids on toy boxes!?!? I was very “meh” about the colour changing hair gimmick but what I was excited about the most was the “hair growth.” I LOVED Brush N Grow lines growing up and was so excited to see this in a new pony line. So I couldn’t wait to get her out of the box.
Here the top, left and rights sides on the box and of course the bottom:
Now the hole designs on the box have zero protection from the outside world. So anyone can poke their phalanges right into the box and poke or damage poor Rarity before she can get home. Let’s not even think about dirt and dust getting in there over the years these will sit on display shelves... oh Hasbro all about the look but not the function.
Next up, OPENED BOX:
This is where I NEED to give Hasbro their due. This packaging is very noticeably less plastic, less holders and more environmentally friendly!!! I’m so happy to see this. Even the box is thinner than usual and feels very much like recycled papers. Rarity literally just pops right out, no fuss no muss. The accessories come out easily as well (I didn’t remove them yet as I will take a better look at her over the weekend when I can make a video review).
Here she is in all her “glory” :
This toy in particular is made of a hard plastic, much like we’ve seen in the G4 light up Rarity, but her head is kind of a harder vinyl similar to the zilla pony’s. Her eyes, makeup and cutie mark are all screen printed on and mine looks alright. Now, I’m not sure if it’s because I ordered from Amazon or it’s a thing with manufacturing, but my Rarity has a lot of surface scratches on her. Remember how I said her cheek was pressing against the box, well her face is kinda scratched there as well as on her side and her back. So that’s a little disappointing.
Now for what I was excited for, the brush and grow feature. It’s dumb. Like really terrible. You literally pull her tail, the tail gets long and mane gets short and vice versa. How lazy. It looks as though the mane and tail are one large hank of hair wrapped around a mechanism in the head. It’s super loose and I’d call it fragile, and her hair just falls out a lot. I ran the brush through her hair once and had a bunch of hair in the brush. So sad and disappointing. This Rarity will become bald very quick with any child who like to brush or style the hair. And to top that off, it doesn’t actually grown much at all, as seen by the “bump” in her tail here:
Ultimately I’m kinda disappointed with this new line based on my first impression. Now my opinion (I hope) might change whenever I can find some brushables. As of right now, me no like. The design it’s self as well all know is super weird, I love the eyes the head could be improved tenfold if they added a jaw...and the thighs. Why? Why do they have broken legs? I just don’t know guys. I hope these grow on me because I want to love them so much. I’m going to use this Rarity as my guinea pig and probably try and paint her tongue, hooves and give her the jaw she so deserves.
I will leave you all tonight with the size comparisons to G4’s and a G1 if your interested. (I will try for some better photos tomorrow in the daylight lol)
