Perfume Puff hair

Hey there,

I remember the craze years ago to turn everything into a perfume puff where people had yarn and made so many. I made several but I always had trouble with the hair being long enough. I use the (forgot the name) paddle brush with the curves teeth to brush it out, and I do rehairing with needle and thread not a rehair tool and glue etc.

I was never sure if because if my method I’d it caused the hair to break, but I could never get the lovely long fibers of hair everyone did, and I was always lucky to just get a few inches on my perfume puffs.

I recently bought a puff that needs hair since hers was cut. If anyone could
Be of help I was appreciate it. Do you know of any specific brands and types that would work well for my project? Pictures help if anyone has a picture of their yarn or at least can tell me the label info. I would really like one that could hold up to the way I rehair and give me long pretty, fluffy hair.

Thanks!

I remember doing this year's ago! I'm not sure if you can find something close to the original perfume puff hair, but I know you can use regular acrylic yarn to get a similar effect. You want something that is 100% acrylic, like Red Heart super saver or Caron Simply Soft; blended fibers will shed more & you won't get the length. And brush sparingly. ;)

hmm, I might brush too hard because I’ve used all of them and ended up with just a few inches of hair.

We have a local store that spins and dyes their own yarns. They sell the loose wool. It's been carded and you can buy it dyed or not. it worked for me, but I didn't have to brush and had extra length.

I need to go to this magical store. Can you imagine so soft perfume puffs. <3 <3

I despise brushing yarn for pony hair it drive me bananas. I’ve found it’s a bit easier if you root the yarn first then brush I out. But it’s still tedious unraveling the yarn, it’s enough for someone to go crazy.

Someday, you'll come visit and I can take you to all the cool yarn stores. :)

There used to be a cool yarn store pretty close to me that spun their own yarn too, I bought some bubblegum pink alpaca yarn once and it was the softest thing ever! Sadly the woman closed the shop after they were robbed one night

I wonder how well acrylic roving yarn would work, especially if you don't like brushing out your own yarn. You could try wool roving, but then you have to worry about protecting it from bugs. (Which is why I tend to steer clear of it.) That being said, mohair and alpaca both look fantastic on dolls and I'm sure they'd look great on ponies too.

My trick for longer acrylic yarn wefts is to unravel it first, flat iron on your low setting, and then use the slicker brush on it. Start at the tips and gently work your way towards the top. (I usually place the yarn against a towel while I brush too, idk if that helps but it does protect my leg/pants from the brush and give you something to brush against.) If you want it smoother than that that you can flat iron it again.

Some of the length comes down to the yarn brand/color too. You may have to experiment a bit.

Does anyone have any tips on rehairing a perfume puff? I'm new at this and I'm kind of lost when it comes to rerooting tools and techniques. I have the roving wool but other than that I'm lost.

I made some with my artist friend. She fluffed and I puffed!
