So this past week I've been getting into restoring my old ponies I had as a kid, one of them was pocket pony Bubblefish, the fish part is long gone but the bowl part on her symbol (which is a clear hard plastic piece) was all murky so I separated it to clean it better

but long story short I think I made it worse...

On the plus side though I'm kind of into how it looks without it so I can work on filling in the holes if it's a lost cause :'D

Is there any way I can still salvage the bowl? (a friend suggested sunfading with peroxide & I'm willing to try it but I don't want to invest in more cleaning products if it's not going to work)

As a side note I'm not interested in selling her ever, I just want her to look nice, so I'm open to any suggestion.
Thank you!

Peroxide is cheap enough I don’t think it’d hurt to try. I have a Bubblefish I picked up at a thrift store a few weeks ago, her bowl wasn’t as murky but I’m curious if it’d work. Does the bowl just pop back into place? If so maybe I’ll try it with mine. (Not that I remember what sun looks like in my frozen tundra! :freezing:)

I'll give it a shot the next time I can go to the store once the roads thaw out lol
But I think the bowl can pop in & out if you're careful enough. I was not unfortunately and parts of the pegs broke off..... but right now that's the least of my worries lol. (it should come back together with some super glue?)

I'm kindof learning as I'm going so maybe I'm not the best to ask for advice, but if you open her up you can see where the the pegs are & maybe if you warm that part up & push from the back it'll come out safely (vs pulling it out from the front like I did...)

You can always check out

Just as a follow-up/conclusion, I finished my restoration for her!

I never could get the bowl completely clear (I did sunfading for a few days like everyone suggested & more traditional cleaning methods) but it did help get it a little clearer so I'll take that as a win for now.
But I'm mostly excited that I found a really good replacement idea for the fish!

I found these yellow seahorse buttons by "Jesse James Dress it Up Collection"? that I found on etsy but I found other listings online too if anyone's interested. They were just the right size, had the same shade of yellow as Bubblefish's original yellow fish & the blue even matches the rest of the blue on her. Plus I couldn't resist the seahorse pun :p

The silver string I found at Michael's craft store in the kid's craft/bead section and I think it looks pretty close to the original silver string used too.

That looks amazing! There’s a YouTuber I keep up with slightly called Odd Tinkering, and he is a master at removing yellowing and discoloration from plastic items. Here’s his method on his second channel, and I’m not sure if it would’ve worked completely in this case but I think it’s worth experimenting on in the future with ponies:

There's lots of us in the pony community already using this kind of technique to fade ponies. Typically with H2O2 cream rater than the liquid and it works great. ;)

@momobunny3 - Your Bubblefish is looking much more happy now. I also love her little seahorse friend, its a perfect match.
