Skyesurfer's MLP eBay Tally- also, rarity values....

I thought it was a great idea, because it really tracked the average value of a pony....well, according to eBay....and I haven't been able to find her site. Is it still actively running?

I was thinking, i wish there was a site that could precisely determine the rarity of a pony based on price paid and quantity owned, according to the members of the MLP community (not just eBay)

Just to know. Like a registry of some sort, like everyone who owns a specific pony, find that pony on the site by alphabetical name order, and enter how much you paid. And the page tallies up the value....giving a roundabout of the average price paid for that specific pony. Considering that the person is telling the truth ;) Also, the quantity of people who entered that they own this pony, as to tally up the amount of them around that could also show the rarity of a pony. (obviously, the less people who claim to own a specific pony, the rarer it might be) And last, if they do not own it, a separate column stating what they *would* pay for a specific pony tallied up.

It could be bad, I know it raises issues, because people will lie, and could really mark up the stated value of a pony....but i'd still wanna know, it interests me. Just the general knowledge. It could be an awful idea, however, I am still very curious how it would turn out.

I think that's a really good idea! I'd love to see a database like that, and I'd submit my info about my ponies thoroughly as possible and truthfully :)

I wonder if anyone would have the time on their hands to organize something like that? They could post here and on the Arena for info. It would be impossible to get 100% participation but maybe a nice sample would be good!

That is a very nifty idea.
And ... I would be willing to work on it, especially if Baby Stargaze would do the intro for me. I love working on things like that, and I have a really useful program for it too (SPSS) and it would be really interesting. :)
We could also include a spot for if someone had the pony at one point and the value they traded or sold it for. That might be getting too into it though.
But yeah... that sounds like lots of fun!

cool! I also think it's best to maybe arrange it through ezboards, or just have MLPTP and Arena and other MLP boards join (approved registration) just to keep out the wanderers who put in votes just to mess with the system.

I can make the website for sure, I also have excel, but I have not the foggiest as of how to create a form on the site that tallies this information, nor do I know how to create a site that people register to join. I can just make the "mock up" of the site, and get the pages hosted. Anybody html savvy that wants to help? Darkyls, what is this program you mentioned? I'd love your help to arrange this!

SPSS is a sociological database for control groups in surveys and such. Its really annoying - I had to get it for a class last year and never took it off my comp. It's sort of like Excel but it does WAY more than Excel - we were analyzing patterns from the General Social Survey. *blech*
As for creating a forum that allows only a controlled group in to share their opinions - I can suggest forumup. I have one forum on there already that I use for communicating with a gaming group on campus (I'm such a dork) and teh administrative stuff is fairly easy to puzzle though, posting is a breeze, there's polls and stuff. It's like this board basically, only you'd be able to sort forum categories like "International" "Nirvana" "US years 1-5" or whatever. You can make it public view so any one can look, but registered, or private posting, so that you know who posts what.
Like I said, the administration is pretty easy. And there's the ability to set up mult. administrators or mods just like here, so it would work fairly well I think.
*teehee* I am excited! I will help you in any way I can, if you decide you want my help.

Maybe I imagined it but some one was selling some ponies over at the Arena and they said they had worked out the price by using "Chrissytree's" Ebay 2 year average.
Maybe Chrissytree has a list or something?
Anyone know? I'd love to see something like this

I think it's an excellent idea, but it will be extremely hard to manage. Cattrah is doing a database for tracking collections, and that has taken a phenomenal amount of work on her part. I've been inputting some of the ponies into her database, and believe me it takes a very long time!

If you think you can do it though, it would be very interesting! The only flaw I can think of is would (for example) rare ponies who were bought at a flea market or as part of a blind lot be counted in the average price? For example, Greek Baby Minty last went for over $1000, but I know of someone who found her for 50p at a carboot sale... that would rather bring the average down.

I agree that would be a very time conssuming project! But I'm curious to see the #'s as well.

To keep the average rate on the price people pay for rares, you should consider keeping a log of how the pony was obtained along with all the other info. Making it clear for people to understand the average price. And i guess not including lucky, or blind lot finds in the average total...

I still want to be on it, if it is going to happen. PM me if you decide to try it, please BabyStargaze. It sounds like so much fun!

It will be rather time consuming but I think it's a great idea! The average is a good concept but it may be good to list a range as well like $0.00 to $50.00 or something like that because some people get awesome prices on rares like my UK baby Sapphire, Ruby and baby Splish that I just bought with BINs for only $7.50 each! They're worth what, $30-$50? So that really hurts the average.

It will be interesting to see what you decide to do:)

yea i had the same sort of idea to use spss for pony classification/ comparison
then you could make a bunch of graphs showing the statistical data for color comparisons and say something about what the most expensive ponies have in common LOL but that would take SOOOO much time to compile and enter that data AHHHH i never actually attempted it mainly because i dont have the software on my PC and i wouldnt want to spend countless hours in the comp lab on campus
