Sniffing Ponies.

Haha, read through the whole thread and gotta say, I got a kick out of it. :biggrin:

There is definitely something about the way 80s and early 90s girl toys smell, not just MLP (not sure about boy's toys, can't really remember right now ). I bought a Lady Lovely Locks from eBay a while back, and she does have a nice scent about her. I remember one of my favorite things about getting a new Barbie was that "new doll" smell that they all had fresh out of the box. Yeah, I've been a toy sniffer since childhood too. Hmm, I wonder if other dolls like Jem also had that smell...

Specifically about MLP, yeah, G1s and G2s smell great. :biggrin: I don't have enough G1s for the smell to accumulate that much, but I do have a Baby Cotton Candy that I believe has precisely what people call "G1 smell". I used to keep her on my bedside table until my new cat decided she looked better on the floor and had to relocate her, but until then, sometimes when I was trying to sleep, her scent would make its way to me. It was kind of soothing, actually.

Well, if the smell dosent return, there's only one solution- buy more ponies. The smell will just get stronger: ) maybe if you took one that still smelled like a G1 pony and one that didn't and rubbed them together. Maybe theres some voodoo or ritual you could perform! xD

You read my mind. Clearly the only way to restore the smell to its rightful place is to buy more ponies! That is a plan I can get behind! XD

I too enjoy the smell of ponies it reminds me of my youth. But the best smelling scented pony in my opinion is my g3 Paradise Island I would sniff that pony all day if I could

I know right, it's almost like a sub-conscious sense. Like it becomes familiar enough you recognize it, kind of like how if I'm sifting through a bin at a store, I can recognize pony hair as soon as it surfaces and I'm like "AH HA!" then I grab it and can tell if it's a Hasbro pony, a fakie, or something with similar hair but as soon as I see it I'm like "AH HA!"

Got to admire us crazies.

Smell

Some of mine smell good like my Sundae Best. I have a Stawberry Surprise that still smells so good. Some I have got smell rusty so working on getting rid of the rust smell. I found a site that has scented oils I'm going to try to resent my Blueberry Baskets , Boysenberry Pie and Cranberry Muffin. If it works I will scent all my ponies. Like they have an Applejack scent.

I have a caramel crunch sitting on my desk and I keep huffing her every time I go by. I can't believe she still smells so good after so long! Somewhere in storage I have a little strawberry shortcake toy (the blueberry chick?) that still smells the same as when I was little. I want to know what they used back then cause its amazing!

Great question....when I saw the title the first thing I thought to myself..."did pikie really line up a pony and "Sniff" it?" then I read into it and finally got it!!! You sound like you might be a bit of an old soul kid, thats a very good thing! and yes, I have smelled a pony or two in my time!!! who can resist? It's like opening up a freshly packaged pony (G1 of course!) and beside the visual, the smell will be one of the first things you remember! and you don't even mean too!!!

I have a G1 Strawberry surprise. I'm not sure if she's supposed to be a scented pony or not. She doesn't have a particular berry scent, but she smells so much better than my other ponies. Whenever I show people my pony collection, I always shove Strawberry Surprise at them "SMELL HER!"

I'm glad I found this thread! :lol: I've noticed a really sweet smell to the vinyl of the G1s I've bought. I've never smelt anything like it! There is a bit of an old vinyl smell to my vintage Barbies & Tammys and the 80s ones never really have a smell so I was really surprised when I got my first G1. I thought it was a cleaning agent until I got more and realised they all had the same lovely sweet smell. It's definitely a pleasant smell!

Hah. I am certainly guilty of sniffing my G1s now and then. I love G1 pony smell! It's amazing that they have gone 20-some years and can still have "new pony smell".

Just a tip for pony-smellers... if you line your plastic containers with fabric when storing ponies, they keep their smell! I use pony themed blankets and vintage sheets, etc, so they all end up smelling like ponies when I take them out again! yay!!!

I admit, I have been sniffing ponies for years. I am currently trying to use scentsy stuff to recreate new pony smell. I am convinced Hasbro knew their vinyl stunk so they added good smell to cover it up. I never get new pony smell from FF ponies, but Year 2 ponies have it.

I think if I can get the right combination of scentsy waxes, I can create inserts to leave inside the ponies and release more good smells.

I do get a whiff of ponies when I walk by my glass case. I do have to say that smell has helped calm me down when im running after my daughter. lol Overall I would buy a MLP fragrance too. They need to bottle that. G1s are the best aromatherapy.

I can't say that I really like the smell of a freshly deboxed pony unless they were made to have a scent (like strawberry or vanilla). When I opened my G3 Spring Basket back in the day the ponies smelled so strongly of plastic I closed it back up and never re-opened it, haha!
