Sunbeam: Before & After

My tail-less Sunbeam arrived! Phase one: scrubbing the heck out of her. First was washing up liquid with a cloth and toothbrush, then generic cleaning wipes (no bleach), and then melamine foam sponge to sand off the top layer of grime/marker marks/finger oils/etc.. Also, I trimmed the flashing around her neck joint after I took the after pics, and currently she's soaking in an Oxy-Clean bath.

The worst of the grime is gone, tho the red on the bottom lip left a stain that will probably need spot creme to remove. You can see from the close-up of her neck joint that she's yellowed from the fire-retardant oxydising the vinyl over time, and so until I can actually give her a peroxide bath, this is probably as blue as she'll get for now. Also, hoping those grey spots aren't mould, but just discolouring from the washer that was loose inside the body. I have a lot of Darci bodies that have these marks, but most of those are from Kenner recycling vinyl.

Phase 2 will be trying to remove ground in dirt from her hooves, touching up her screening, and giving her a new tail with matching nylon hair.

Then the very last thing (Phase 3) will be repainting her almost entirely gone glitter sun cutie mark.

Wow, I’ll look forward to seeing her done

She’s looking well so far! Already looking like a great transformation! It’s amazing what a bath can do for a pony :winkpony:

I find scrubbing up absolutely filthy toys really cathartic. I think it's the immediacy of the results. Unlike most things that change incrementally over a long period time, this is like 'OK, an hour later, BAM--80% done!' It's waiting on supplies more than anything from now on. I've got hair and ribbons and brushes/combs on their way. I haven't bought the nylon washers yet, but I will as soon as I can sell some Integrity Toys dolls and fashions.

Great job so far ;) :star:Excited to see your process

She already looks 100% better! I can't wait to see her completely restored. You're doing a bang up job!

Apparently my glitter from Cartwright is being delivered early! Unfortunately, Sunbeam's butt is pretty bare, so glitter matching is unfortunately going to happen probably by finding as many pics of her as I can find online and then guessing :(

eta: OK, looking at pics of the repro pony, 120 Golden Goose looks the right colour, and I measured the faint traces of the cutie mark and it appears to be 1.75 cm wide. Can anyone else with a Sunbeam measure their's cutie mark to confirm? Also, if you have an intact or nearly intact glitter cutie mark, pics of that would be HUGELY HELPFUL as well!

Mylittlewiki.org has a good picture. These are from there.

I have those pics, but the main difference is lighting. Also, I can't measure according to the photos :( Also trying to figure out if her mane has been trimmed, as it's only 3"/8cm long. I compared the white hair with the Snowflake nylon I have on hand (which is too short for a tail) and the white appears to also have yellowed slightly, so I'm hopinga peroxide bath will help, or even just scrubbing the hair with whightening toothpaste.

eta: and apparently the reason the hair doesn't match is cos I need 'Virgin Snow', not 'Snowflake' *facepalm*

The only other thing I could think of is if you could find one of the 35th anniversary ones by basic fun at target to look up close at. :( I'm sorry.

Before and afters are the light of my life. Sunbeam already looks so much better! I'll watch this thread :)

And good luck finding glitter! I used Sulyn Sparkling Glitter, but I literally just got that because I ordered what miniglitter I could find on Amazon and hoped. It turned out well for me, but it might not be accurate to the original glitter.

So, Sunbeam is back on hold again. My nylon hair order arrived, but I was sent a different white than I'd ordered. I'm frustrated since it took two weeks to arrive, but hopeful that the issue can be resolved quickly.

Oh no, that’s always annoying:/ I hope they get you the right color faster this time

AzaleaArt, I'm still waiting on ribbon and 40 developer creme. But I can at least test the tail with the nylon washers, to see if I got the correct size.

Skybreeze, that would be amazing! Thank you so much!

Well at least it’s not the only thing stopping you from working on her then

Hopeful that I can figure out how to make a stencil for the cutie mark, so the lines are nice and clean, but we'll see! Everything is an adventure at this point...
